Depends on your own system, but impressive gains nonetheless :)

I meant depends on the type of system and the combo of CPU/GPU. Not referring specifically to your system :).

It's the hard drive thats causing the noise. Took the case off with the computer on just to mess about and test it out.

I added some hand pressure to the top of the WD blue drive and.. yup the noise reduced significantly.

I'll learn to live with it :pac:
I have the Define R4 case too.
My old case for the xps630i was pretty loud and one of my harddrives was vibrating periodically every 20 seconds for 5 seconds or so. Very distracting.

Since it's the harddrive causing the sound through vibrations you should probably check if you've installed ALL the rubber dampeners on each of your harddrives so that there is rubber between the bay/metal and the actual harddrive. If you've got a screw in there, there should be a rubber dampener on it. That could be your problem.

I think excessive vibrations can shorten the life of your drives, but maybe I'm talking out my ar$e

I didn't install any extra dampeners, I just screwed it in securely where they were already placed.I'll have a look again tomorrow to be sure!
It's more the actual sound of the drive when in use anyway. The girlfriend thinks im mental but it's the little things like this that grab hold and annoy me haha ( I should also move it from directly beside my head :o )

Just played a good hour of BF4, so smooth with the Tri X 290, checked temps right afterwards and they were at 64c. It's going to take me some considerable time to get used to mouse and keyboard though after years of a controller

I wonder, did they fecked up BF4 Nvidia performance to make AMD cards mantle look better? :pac:

Shocking performance after patch. I did installed Beta drivers just now and looks like it got sorted again. Will need to play few more maps to make sure.

Only seeing your comments now Am I Evil, can't remember if you got an SSD or not but if the HDD is just for storage then in Windows advance power settings, set the harddrive to spin down/turn off after a period of time. That's what I have done in my R4 as when the HDD is spinning it can add a decent amount of noise (similar to you though my girlfriend things im mad and say's theres bairly any difference :p).

Only downside to this is when you then try and access something from the HDD there is 3-4 seconds of waiting as the HDD spins back up. Since most of my regular access items are on the SSD though this is not a problem for me.

How is the Corsair PSU, have you noticed the fan spin up on it much?

Press have them now, a couple of "back of a napkin" quick reviews starting to appear. Encouragingly 3dguru even some reasonably decent gains with ultra details 1440p and a monster cpu.

Just watching the Linus tech tips stream from Friday, he was told there would only be about a day or so in between the press release drivers going out and the public driver role out. So shouldn't be long before everyone has them.

Opened up my case today to dust it out and to my surprise found that there was almost no dust inside the case, all I had to clean off was the filter on the bottom and the vent on top.

Bear in mind it's been about 6 months since the case was last opened, possibly more.

Granted, my rig is in a tiled room, but still.... Deep Silence I, you continue to impress me.

It's overall a quiet build so it's difficult enough to pinpoint where the majority of that noise is coming from, I can't say for definite if I've heard the PSU spin up or not :pac: I'm going to do a bit of testing during the week and see for myself but as of yet I've no complaints.

I was definitely being over critical with the noise from the case. The fan noise I can hear is either the CPU cooler or the PSU, I'd wager it is the CPU though. It's nothing any sane person complain about :o

Just as I shut the game down I had a quick look at the Tri x software and saw it was at 64c :pac:
I ran Fumark today and the temps went up to a max of 80c but the fans never went higher than 49%

The card seems very very quick to cool and I basically cant hear the cards fans until they reach 30%, 40% seems to be where the fans are easily noticeable. Overall, so far so good! For my first ever build I'm a very happy man :D

Sorry for asking this again but does anyone know what I could ask for my 2 month old 4670k ?

Going watercooling and wanting to switch to a i7 4770k.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Why do you want to switch just because you're adding watercooling?

Not really much help, but I sorted out this problem with my ps3 and Asus plus! thing.

I watched all DVD/Blu-rays on my PS3 and when I want to watch something from hard drive I just turn on Asus play! yoke. Both use remote controls and both do what I need. Ps3 has Netflix too so sorted.

Can get a 4770k for handy money so its abit of a no brainer but need to see what the 4670k is worth second hand.

anything you post on adverts you get flooded with spastics telling you how bad your price is LIKE I KNOW EVERYONE PUTS 20% MORE THAN THEY ACTUALLY EXPECT /rant

Well, in fairness there are tools who put Pc component stuff and expect to get prices close to ones they payed when it was new. On top of that they dont realise that there are a newer and a lot better components then that brand new for same price.

There are tools on both sides of the fence.

Very promising first try of Mantle.

    7950 @ 1150/1450.

    Star Swarm stress test
    Mins DX11: 8fps Mantle: 32 fps
    Average: DX11: 30fps Mantle:60 fps

    BF4:
Dont really have solid number but on 64p conquest I only dipped to about 56fps on Altai Range which is probably the most demanding map. There should be fewer dips when explosions occur ect.

There are a few bugs though, random frame drops every couple of minutes all in all im quite impressed.

    Still makes me sad :(

On a lighter note, just bought a Korean monitor. Wish me luck..

I've a 280x and tried it out mantle for a bit, worked fine on the test range where I went from 80-90 to 140/170 (I was up in skybox in a warthog when the 170 happened) with everything maxxed. Tried it on a server and got horrible drops down where it dropped down to 15. Back to Dx11 for me.

    Mantle can wait
Once I installed it, everytime I hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE everything blue screened on me :o
Reverted back and its all fine now

Edit- Change on that, it now seems to just happen every so often but only after hitting Ctrl+alt+delete, so far!
Just my luck, anyone have any idea.. google tells me its a hardware error
