Snowie do yourself a favour and pick up BF3 for the PC. if you think it's good on console, it's a completely different ball park on PC. there is absolutely no comparison, and I used to play on Xbox myself. I've 200+ hours clocked on my Xbox and I haven't added another minute since getting it on PC. 64 players on the same maps in much better detail!

    also, subscribe to
    www.humblebundle.com

you're just after missing the THQ edition, which was excellent, metro, all the company of heroes games, saints row 3rd etc etc, you pay whatever you like, (min $1) distribute the money to charity/developers/humble team in whatever percentages you choose, and activate the games on steam. new Bundles all the time!

as mentioned above, league of legends, completely free, 110+ characters to choose from, and amazingly addictive. it's quite difficult to get your head around at the start, but it's worth sticking with. there's a reason it's the most played game on earth, with over 5 million active users every day! that's more than logs into the whole of steam.

If only today wasn't the last working day of the week! Now I might have to wait until Tuesday :/

Still clutching onto the "expected delivery date" There's hope yet :P

My Scan order got stuck in Birmingham, but arrived at my door with a different tracking number the same day.

Can you split steam games between different drives?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,755 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

    yes you can

Steam mover does the job. You can also add another drive in the steam settings but that is only for if your downloading the game afaik

    + 1000

Im only playing on a Laptop with a crappy Gt 540m on Low Settings.
Graphics are still way ahead of the Xbox version thats even before you start talking about improved player count and the superiority of mouse and keyboard over a controller.

Pc gaming is not dead. By the looks of it it is getting bigger balls each day!

    http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/03/28/pc-gaming-in-still-not-dead-shocker/

There are a lot of reasons why PC gaming picking up speed so fast, but i wonder what sort of picture we will see when next gen consoles arrive. We still dont know the price of next gen consoles and i still think that 400eu is a very very optimistic figure.

It wouldn't surprise me if we saw €600 consoles, to be honest. Given that you can get this:

    Item|Price
FRACTAL DESIGN Gehäuse Core 1000 black|€29.54
    ASRock H61M-DGS, Sockel 1155, mATX|€39.89
    Seagate Spinpoint HD502HJ 500GB SATA II|€47.08
    Intel Core i3-3220 Box, LGA1155|€105.05
    8GB Corsair ValueSelect PC3-10667U CL9-9-9-24|€45.87
    Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit (SB-Version)|€80.84
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 450W|€44.14
    MSI N660-2GD/OC, GeForce GTX 660, 2048MB DDR5|€185.00
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€596.40

For the same, that's not half bad. A then GTX 760 would compare pretty favourably with next-gen titles in terms of performance, I think.

they surely cant go to €600. it was nearly a disaster for sony to go that high last time and this time theres no new tech (cell BR) being introduced. And MS could easily take a big loss on the next gen if it removed sony from the picture

the new consoles are apparently running neutered 7970M gpus so a 760 should beat it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

I wouldn't put it past Sony to be honest. It's been a long time since they've had new hardware on the market, and I'd expect them to milk it.

And yeah, spec-wise the 760 would blow it out of the water, but that's not taking into account hardware optimisations, etc. Bearing in mind that Crysis 2 is at present running on a 7600GT (textures aren't as great, etc. but you get the point).

TBH that gives me confidence that the new consoles will be around that €400 mark.
The baseline for decent PC Gaming is pretty low right now and is not the time for MS and Sony to start thinking about a making profit on hardware sales.

The thing is sony and microsoft sell the consoles at a loss. They were losing €200-300 per unit at release of the 360 and ps3. You were getting the specs and performance of a €1000 pc for half the price. I think it will be similar this time around with slightly cheaper starting prices.

Hi guys, I've posted about this problem before. It's a small issue whereby my dualx cooler on my 7950 makes a slight grinding noise, which becomes audible at about 50% fan speed. At 70% plus the fans make it inaudible, but it's still there AFAIK (I put my ear to the case).

I'm just wondering if any more knowledgable posters follw my troubleshooting logic here. It's not touching the shroud AFAIK, also, if I put pressure on the shroud an raise it the sound all but disappears, when I release this pressure, the sound returns. I don't understand this.

I removed my card from its slot. When I manually spin the fans, one fan makes a slight noise all the time. The other fan is noiseless until it begins to slow down to a halt. I think the first fan might be the issue, as it is making a noise throughout operation. I understand this is happening when I just spin it with my finger, but I am assuming this may be the culprit when the card is in operation. I suppose the best way to find out would be to unplug that fan while using the card and test the single fan at the culpable %s. (This is perfectly safe I assume?.

If it turns out that it is indeed that fan that is the issue (as I suspect), what would be the course of action? Can I remove the fan and oil the bearing?

I've always had this problem (ever since I got the card some months ago) but I haven't bothered tackling it as the fan rarely hit 50%+. But I want to overclock it more heavily (1100mhz plus), but I can't do this as it requires the fans to be at those speeds more regularly.

Am I on the right track to fixing it? Any tips?

I don't think the loss was that big at launch, was it? Don't want to bury my previous post, see my question above :D

it was $4-600 dollar loss per ps3 sold at launch and ~$300 for the 360

you'll be looking at $300 max this time as sony are ****ed

Well the ps3 was cheaper than a stand alone blu ray player but had all the gaming hardware too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

It wasn't that high :S More like $150-$200 per 360 and $250-$300 per ps3. It shipped at $600. They weren't costing them $1200 or they never would have been made in the first place. Cell and blu-ray were a nightmare for them though.

No idea on the fan Gumbi. Sounds like the bearings are screwed. I don't think it will be as simple as oiling them. What bearing type are the fans? You probably can't even access them.

it wasnt meant to be but cell R&D cost a mint and since hardly anyone apart from sony used it didnt make sony any money

then at the time BR was still a new technology on the market and sony used a really high quality drive in the PS3 (it was still one of the best until recently afaik)

these 2 things cost sony a small fortune along but sony saw the PS3 as an opportunity to sell their R&D tech which worked for BR but failed with Cell

the production loss per console was about $200 but i think when R&D was added in it totaled $400-600 per console

though if seen estimates as high as $800 losses per console

Its probably why backwards compatibility was dropped so quickly after launch

360's was $250 on the lower SKU and $200 on the premium SKU. 300 was a typo:o

Any tips on my question above? I emailed Sapphire about potentially just giving me a fan, they just told me to deal with HWVS.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,066 ✭✭✭thewheel2.0

Woooo! Got my HD 7870 OC RMA back from Sapphire. They sent me an updated version with better looking decals too :) It runs great with Metro 2033 I have to download 6GB of updates to test BF3 though.

In the end only cost me €12.10 to send to them and they paid courier back. Sent by An Post on the 13 March and back today with TNT on the 29th - Seems pretty good by RMA standards?
