The lack of said feeling is the one and only advantage to brick and mortar places, IMO. We need a decent tech shop here. It would be lovely to be able to go into town and pick up a 3570K and bits for HWVS prices +5% or something.

I completely agree. I would pay a bigger premium than 5% even. The prices here are appalling compared to HWVS, etc.

I'm playing SC 2 on a second gen i3 (2.1ghz) right now as my desktop is out if action. Very painful. Everything on low @ 720p is playable, just about. Painful.

1st gen i3 at 2.4ghz with an ATI (yes ATI) 5650 and i'm playing at 800x600 and barely able to get over 20fps ZvZ is impossible at that frame rate

I cant even play the campaign

I'm nearly considering buying the reusable parts of the pc (case, psu, ssd, monitor) and buying a cheap 1155 board and cpu with a cheap gpu to see me through

forget the case, use a mobo box etc, just get a cheap h61, 7750 and Pentium CPU like in decs build for me. €180 all in, I'll post you some ram and a PSU, and flog it later on. it'll cost you ~€60 for a few months gaming after resale.

Thanks for the offer i might do that so

but im still goin to get things in advance of my final build psu ssd etc as i'll be using them in the prodigy anyway

and it should leave me with enough to buy you that pink keyboard i promised you:pac:

    This, a million times.

I'm in the US at the moment, and I've been in a Microcenter and a Tiger Direct. Both of these shops have had top of the range graphics cards, cases, motherboards, water coolers and everything else on a shelf which I can paw at. It's unreal! Actually, it's so unreal that I managed to shell out $250 dollars on a new motherboard:

    NdIQgrp.jpg

The reason for the purchase is the decision to water cool my rig (thanks Serephucus) in a NZXT Switch 810, and I'm hardly going to use an €70 horribly coloured Asrock, now am I?

By the way, I've actually got a new camera (Canon 1100D I think) so the photo isn't as awful as mine usually are.

If there was a Microcenter in Ireland I'd probably blow all my money, all of the time.

Finally, would anyone be interested in a build log?

There's an AC3 code here, if anyone wants it.

lad my question is I was cheacking out https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_990FX_R20/#support_Download_30 and there's a load of downloads for the mother board is there like master all in one download file or do I have to down load the most recent or what way does it work ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,979 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

download the hotfix, most recent; chipset, audio, lan, and usb. i usually dont bother with utilities unless i want something specific, and youre prob not running RAID only get the second 2 sata's.

Yeah, when your over there, you realize how terrible our selection is, like my 680 was bought from Tiger Direct and worked out at about 380 quid. The same card I'm ordering this week is €505.

And yes I know thats over the odds for a 680 but I want another Lightning :pac:

That Notcua TIM is good stuff too Eboggles, been using it myself the last few builds I've done !

Yeah, everything is way too cheap. If only I had more time and more money.

Also, the transport network is really good over here. I ordered some camera stuff from Amazon at about 6pm on Friday night, paid for Saturday delivery (It was only $2 more than 2-day delivery) and it arrived here at 9am the next morning. And it had to travel 3'000 miles!

By the way guys, what looks better in a white case with a red motherboard; red tubing or white tubing?

I'd go red tubing and black fittings, personally.

Yeah, and then maybe white LEDs under the CPU and GPU block? Decisions, decisions :D.

Well if you go with XSPC blocks, you can do something like I did with my 600T. The blocks come with LEDs, but they're blue. If you want to get others FrozenCPU does a bunch. It's 3mm LEDs you're looking for with XSPC blocks.

I saw TTL mention it when he reviewed the RX360 kit, and it seemed like a really cool idea.

I thought you didn't go the whole way with your 600t? Were you not considering a Prodigy or something? Have you got any photos of it? ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Only the ones that are in the build log unfortunately, but they should at least give you a (blurry) idea.

I'm still debating on cases at the moment, so I haven't bothered cleaning up the wiring, re-doing tubing, or fixing LEDs, etc. It's all in a bit of a mess, but I'm not happy enough with the 600T (or have money) to do anything about it. At the moment I think I'm going to wait for Haswell / Maxwell, and probably stuff everything into an NCASE M1, or Compact Splash (though the NCASE looks a lot nicer IMO).

    the ncase is really nice

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Damn right. I'm ordering one no matter what case I end up going with, simply because it's an awesome looking case, and won't be available outside of the production campaign. (The prototype campaign just finished, and they're hoping to have production units shipping by August)
