I usually run 8-1024, with 12GB of RAM. I find it to be a lot better than stock, and usually gives temps closer to IBT (Incidentally, that might be why my temps seem slightly higher than others).

How long should I leave it run. Reading about crazy times like 24 hours.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

    That's standard. ;)

If you're just checking a given clock, with the intention of going higher, use Intel Burn Test instead (If you really want to use Prime - hopefully as well - then an hour should do it. Small FFTs will throw errors the quickest, usually). Stick it on maximum, let it run for five passes, then move on. It throws errors much faster than Prime, but it's not as good for long-term stability. When you get to whatever your end goal is, then run Prime.

I was reading a few guides and most said to just leave it on. Just out of curiosity, what settings do you, personally, run prime under?

I would recommend about 8 hours , 24 hours is for extreme clocks . I would also say run intelburntest too .

Think I'll just stick at 4.2 GHz. Don't really have much time on my hands at the moment and just wanted to give it a go without going too far into it. I'll definitely give it more time during the summer but for now I think it's good enough for the time being.

Its against the TOS and is risky enough.

Usually not a good plan, its a common way to frag a windows install. Remember those are system updates, its editing windows files.

Me me me. I'm going to try and wait till this arrives though, it looks like it is going to be a suitably epic game to break my new toy in. :D
Your Amazon.co.uk order of "Dell Ultrasharp U2412M." has been dispatched

Congrats! For when you get it:

    Brightness: 43
    Contrast: 75
    Colour: R96, G93, B87

Gives you pretty good calibration. I upped my brightness slightly to 50, and am very pleased with the overall result.

Is this good value for a 7950

    http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/13360145/art/generique/radeon-hd-7950-3-gb-gddr5.html

Or would you be better off with a 7870 and non oem cooler?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

No it's not. I'd grab a sapphire 7870xt at the moment. You will get 1 delivered for about that price with tomb raider and bioshock infinite. Overclocked it would outperform that 7950 and be quieter. You can get the club3d model with the same games for a tad over €200 delivered.

But the thing with Pixmania is the fact you could end up getting a card with a non reference cooler because they seem to send you any card in a brown box .
