Or a minister for science that was going to launch a book denying evolution.

The man claims travel expenses when he has a state car and driver.

He didn't create 'economic prosperity'. He was the chief architect in creating the conditions that have led to the mess the country finds itself in today.

I don't think he cause the collapse.,.. He just did what all politicians do, rode the wave of popular opinion, (on the back of property bubble). He if he put a stop to it in 2004 FG/Labour would not have changed much.

Having brought peace to our Island and created economic prosperity , which only collapsed after he left office

Rat abandoning a sinking ship comes to mind.

    No
Having brought peace to our Island?

That kind of washes over the work done by other parties to the Peace Process (SF, SDLP, UU, Americans )- you know the ones who actually did all the hard work while Ahern made the tea.

    If my aunt had balls..
He didn't put a stop to it and FG/Labour didn't come to hold office.
Creating hypothetical situations is pointless and doesn't do anything to absolve those who held the reins and led the charge towards the reality we now find ourselves faced with.

Suppose you are right,, But if you are saying that the Irish Economy collapsed because of Bertie I don't think so.

I am not voting for him because he (probably/maybe) is corrupt.

Don't really think he masterminded the collapse,

Having brought peace to our Island and created economic prosperity , which only collapsed after he left office, is Bertie Ahern an ideal candidate for president and to represent Ireland abroad ?

    Hi Bertie.

I'm saying he played a large part in it; he was in charge of the country while the foundations for the collapse were being laid.
Of course, those who came after him, chiefly Brian Lenihan, have managed to turn a terrible situation into a catastrophic one.

I couldn't imagine the Aras looking good with a Sky dish on top of it.

All this Bertie for Pres' has been rehashed before.
    See:

    http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056026164
    Or
    http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056023045

The man is a lying gobschite and most certainly (FOR MANY REASONS STATED IN THE PREVIOUS THREAD) does not deserve to be still in the Dail (tax afairs alone!), never mind be running for any pres' election.

Some people really need to kop themselves on and study their historical history as well as read "The Drumcondra Mafia" and TWO European reports that names and blames the fcukin Dub' asshole for creating the foundation for the mess we are in!

I'm sick of uneducated folk who troll out this stupid, mental schite of an idea!
It shows them in poor light, lacking historic knowledge and actual real details alone!
