Ah well. Probably be the first of many, there has been a huge turnover of pubs in that area in recent times.

best of luck wexford12... not sure about new casino place... originally on plans it was for an amusement arcade, if its another place like mint i dont see the point but on the signage it has poker, roulette etc... hardly just computer game versions ??? maybe....

denis collins gallery opened and a permanent fixture for the next few years anyway on the quay front where keanes auctioneers had moved to for a while... corner of bean and berry.

Thanks for that WexfordWarrior my post was taken down and I was Banned for a little bit because i put my name of my business up. Ah well it seems someone else has to say what the business is not me as its deemed advertising .

Well still no work has commenced on the pathways on South Main St

They're doing the necessary pipework at the moment, the place is a hive of digging, replacing, filling-in activity.

The bricks for the new surface are in Colman Doyle's yard behind his shop at the bottom of Bride Street, you can see them on their pallets even when the gates are closed.

There was a lot of activity in South 51 yesterday afternoon with new equipment still in bubblewrap observed inside.

Apologies. I thought the digging up/pipework was the usual lark that you see every other day, not the beginning of the pathways.

I'd say the stuff in bubblewrap must be the new kitchen equipment. I heard a lot of it was taken away.

No apols necessary, I thought so too until I asked as I live close by and had seen the blocks.

Music blaring out of S51 yesterday avo and a lot of activity inside, load of empty equipment/drink boxes folded flat and piled up outside in Cinema Lane. No, I wasn't going through them, just passing by and looked at them! For reporting here purposes, natch.

    South 51 reopened today.

Oh, and just to repeat, I have no connection with the place, wasn't even a regular.

Mr. Price shop front in place in one of the units in the Retail park at Kileens (the one where Woodies and Aldi is). I don't think it was open yet though.

I was in Wexford on Friday and, apart from collecting something from Argos and a book from V de P, I was unimpressed with what was on offer. Apart from overpriced Greenacres and Barkers there's little enough in the town now. As always the wind on South Main Street was enough to cut you in half. The Farmers Market had about four stalls. I arrived back in Redmond Square just in time for a bus home so cut out my last call - to Readers Paradise (usually a waste of time anyway) and was back in Enniscorthy little over an hour and half after leaving. At least the shops in Enniscorthy are centrally clustered, albeit on a hill, but the town is certainly better presented than Wexford at the moment - still little or no business being done though. :(

id say your being very very harsh there judgement. On the whole wexford is presented beautifully. Nice streets and clean and tidy. Only exception at the moment is south main street which is under renovation at the moment. If your talking about shopping i dread to list what what you wouldnt find in enniscorthy. If its markets your looking for we have a massive one out by mcdonalds, indoor too in case its raining, corn market christmas wonderland and the small farmers market which is set up in a small part of a busy carpark. Im sure if there was more farmers in wexford the market would be bigger. Seems like there is more farming demand in enniscorthy :) (i jest) it would be nice to see a big farmers market on our award winning quayfront id agree. Our shops arent clustered in a small place because wexford is bigger than enniscorthy and therefore services alot more people and is more spreadout.(its the price we have to pay for being our counties capital).

The main streets golden mile is full of shops so scratching my head on that one and id think if you stood on the hill in enniscorthy you'd be lucky not to be blown away completely. Sour grapes i reccon ;p now is that the chant of 'fight fight fight' i hear? I better get out of here before teacher comes :))

It is a discount store but is better than the usual €2 shops with some great value to be had-The one in Enniscorthy is doing great business.
I got tins of Dulux paint there recently for only €7.99,the same ones are around €25 anywhere else.

I was only just saying after a recent visit on how well the town looks and really how good it is for shopping, in particular clothes shops, has great clothing shops for men, womens (boutiques etc) and for children, really plenty to choose from.

On the Wexford!! , I think anything you need is in town and there isn't any need to buy outside of town TBH, think even electrical goods, bookshops, handmade chocolates as examples - all covered.

The Christmas market is really good, heard Santa is excellent there.

    Well done Wexford.

was up at Mr.Price there yesterday and all the signage etc is up...still not open but seen people in there finishing off stacking the shelves etc...big store!!!

id say itll be a good spot...i was in the one in enniscorthy when it opened and was a little disappointed to be honest but they still had some ok deals... hopefully this one will be better...plenty of room in there anyway thats for sure but most of the shelves were stocked yesterday and it looked like they were just finishing off the rest... has to be open soon.

Far too many boutiques in this town!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,090 ✭✭✭RadioRetro

When a shop of whatever trade closes it re-opens as a boutique. Place is overrun with them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,656 ✭✭✭Corvo

Well they must be making money, because they just keep springing up.

Nothing worse than when you hear of a place opening up in town, get your hopes up and then it turns out to be "Claires Ladies Shoelaces"...

    Jesus Christ!

yep...we need more mens clothes shops... a H&M, river island etc would be ok too.

I read a while ago M&S were going into tralee or killarney... lets hope they move to other towns of a similar size ...a-hem!

Wexford "City" as i keep hearing more and more these days! :)

Agree, M&S would be fantastic. Doubt it would ever make its way down here though, Tesco seems to be too dominant. Then again, if it can make it in Tralee, I leave it so. I'd rather open it in the Gaza Strip.

Off the top of my head I can only think of about 5-6 shops that would interest me in this town - JackJones, Trade Winds, Charles Pierce, Book Centre, XtraVision. BPM was another favourite but thats been done away with. Seriously, if you want to go shopping you have to either go Dublin or the like. Horrendous.

Closed as far as I know. The shop was replaced by the educational toy shop but I saw this weekend that that has closed too!

United Colours of Beneton at the bullring is also having a closing down sale atm.

    Updates;

Noticed that bin bags are being used to screen the window and work is going on within Allure, the former lingerie shop in Henrietta Street, so looks like a new business on the way.

Also shelving was being moved this morning into the long-time empty retail unit between the shoe shop and hairdresser's in South Main Street opposite Doyle's Bookmakers, and work was going on inside kitting it out.

And the Fun Palace opened on the Quay in the former Joyce's store last Monday (13th).

O'Neil's shop on the main street opposite the Book Centre is moving across the road to where Marlows cleaners used to be. Was told this by Mrs O'Neil yesterday.
