marine restaurant over the commodare barry now open or nearly open... walked by there sunday and side door was open, so they're either finishing last few bits upstairs or they are open already !

It seems that Luigi Apicella (Nonna Rossa) is opening the restaurant at the Commodore Barry (Blue Marine), Nonna Rossa is class so hopefully Blue Marine is too.

Kelly's Bakery place closed on Main street.

Feck sake! Where am I gonna get a fresh crispy brown unsliced pan now ??

Sushi is very niche. I dont think the population is there for it to work. Need a decent Indian (dont get me wrong Spice is not the worst).

for Indian, i prefer Eastern Palace. Although i like Spice too.

"unique" opening in the old budget travel shop in redmond square beside the wexford bus collection point accross from dunnes... dont know if its the same one as in dublin etc.

Sweet shop moving into the former Kellys place. I'll say this for Wexford, lots of places seem to be snapped up very quickly!

Is this related to rates drops? Are the older tenants tied to the higher rates, wheras the landlord is forced to be more flexible in negotiating with a new entrant?

I suppose Unique would be welcome....aslong as it fills a space I suppose.

How does everyone feel about an authentic japanese sushi bar opening up in Wexford town?

Is it a bit too esoteric for the Wexford populace or is Wexford ready for something new?

I personally think there is a strong interest in Asian cuisine evinced by all the Chinese take-aways and restaurants and Thai also. The problem is that if there was a party of 6 for example, there's always going to be one or two that wont touch raw fish.

Do noodle and Teriyaki etc and it might work ..love sushi/sashimi etc myself :)
This is the closest to where I work in Dublin and seems to be doing well

John Keane, the auctioneer, has moved there from the temporary premises he had beside the radio station. He's been after the place for a couple of years but some contractual whodingy meant it wasn't available until recently.

That was shot down by the Corpo, not a suitable amenity for the area, there's enough arcades already what with Flanagan's, the one down in Monck Street and Mint.

I highly doubt it lads. Sure it has only expanded recently.

Also, anyone else heard of the paths down South Main street being built out futher onto the road (ala N. Main St). Supposedly will accomodate outdoor seats/benchs for the pubs too, which is good.

yes, you're right... I have a map of the plans in my possession from the council. Lots of loading bays and disabled parking as well.

Yes, just got confirmation that South 51 has gone into receivership. Thank the lord. There's only so much karaoke and crap bands that I can take.

The owner doesn't really have any meaningful experience in the industry as far as I can tell, so that severely impacted the business and the direction it took.

Yes, he just expanded into the old Wool Shop, but South 51 was doomed from the beginning. Bars that are on multiple levels rarely work, particularly if the place is not that big to begin with. The stairs takes up way too much space and half the time you feel like you are sitting underneath an ugly staircase!

Instead of expanding into the wool shop, he should have acquired the stationary shop round back and expanded down that way and kept the majority of the bar on the ground level. He could have gotten the building for a song, because it is off the main street- definitely cheaper than the €2 million he reportedly paid for the wool shop.

With all the work that has been going on in the wool shop for the past 6 months, it really puts into question the business acumen and sanity of the owners for me.
