Is it sorer than waxing? Only ever done DIY wax jobs but found it really painful...espesh on bikini area.

I think so. Well, maybe not actually sorer, but it takes so much longer that it feels it to me, waxing is over and done with and you kinda forget the pain a little, whereas the epilating takes absolutely yonks, so there's no end to it.

    Cosmo is just plain stupid.

Clearly, but on the other hand I'm firmly of the opinion that the current trend of specialised waxes is mainly just a fashion. In time it will fall from favour and stop being so popular.

I like getting them sometimes. Ime oral is more enjoyable when the labia and anus are hair free. Bare skin can feel more subtle licks and kisses than it can when the hair is there. But I sort of prefer to keep variety. Sometimes I wax, sometimes I trim and occasionally I just let it all grow out. That way if I get a wax it's special rather than usual, "through a chink too wide" and all that.

On reflection I'm now wondering what Kavanagh was really referring to. Goes off to read Advent with new eyes.

    Bleaching, waxing, laser....
Ok this might be more suited to fashion & appearance but I wanted to get other women's experience... so mods please move if you think it would be better....

I have recently noticed that I have a bit more facial hair on my upper lip than I would like!! I don't think its particularly bad but I would rather its not there.

But I rarely wear make up, get my hair cut only when its getting really desperate... so I don't want to start something that will make it worse and that will need monthly trips to the beauty salon.

If I bleach the hairs at home - will they grow back darker or more noticable? If I wax at home or get it done professionally - again will it start something that will need to be done every month or whatever because the hairs will be darker or thicker?

I don't think the hairs are *that* noticeable, but it is something I am conscious of all of a sudden and would rather they are not there.

So I'm looking for people's own experience -- does mucking around with these things just make it worse? (as my mum always said smile.gif )

Oh and I'd be interested in hearing anyones experience of laser hair removal - though I don't think my budget will stretch to that at the mo.

Just curious, at what age did you start removing or looking after the hair in your bikini area?

i actually have found the boots expert facial hair cream really good... You need to use it at night though, because you use a scraper thing to take it off, so your face can end up quite red. Plus it's REALLY cheap- like, €3 does me for well over a month.

the last time i just got a tight bikini and it was wonky.
I have had a few bad experiences in Galway with waxes but had a pre-holiday brazilian in Heaven Scent on Augustne St. and couldnt recommend it higher. They were sooo nice and do great deals! No more cream mess for me EVER AGAIN!!

Would you not risk getting that weird sort of stubble that appears when you use hair removal cream on, say, your legs for instance? Don't fancy accidently ending up with that on my face.

I use Veet wax strips, they're for sensitive skin and have shea butter and berry. They do the job, once you start you can't really stop, you'll have to be waxing at least once a month (of course this depends on how quick your hair growth is).

I get a holywod wax before holidays most of the time. I always shave, leaving a small landing strip cause i think it looks nice. I let it grow sometimes if i'm single cause i get lazy ;)

ya, thats what i was afraid of, i reckon that loads of places offer them, but so rarely do them that they are not very experienced. so really glad i have a personal recommendation. as it happens, i will be in dublin over the next couple of days so i booked Urbana, cos this thread highly recommended, but will use Heaven Scent after that.

    thanks galway girl!:)

    Full Hollywood :)

Would never really considered it, but had surgery last year close to the pubic area and the nurse setting up the details suggested i get a really tight bikini wax so woulnd't itch or irritate my stitches.

I was so moritfied going in, and then thought well, if i gonna get most of it off, might as well get all of it off!

I love it, and the place i get it done in (in dublin) is really good and i find it hurts less than getting my lower legs done.

I use an epilator on my underarms and legs ...it came with a trimmer but find that its not that effective on the aul legs. Great for underarms and as for the bikini, well I could get used to the pain but I still get ingrowns :(

I had a consultation and a 'patch test' for laser hair removal in Dublin and have decided to go ahead with it! I was pleasantly surprised by how little it hurt- they have a thingy attached to the laser yolk (sorry if this is too technical!) which blows cold air and it barely even stung! Much (x100) less discomfort than waxing. My hair isn't really really dark though, but I am very pale, so fingers crossed it works out okay. I'll let ye know how I get on. :)

I don't think I could ever get laser hair removal on my pubic area. It just seems like...going backwards in time growth wise. if that makes any sense! Even though it's usually all shaved off I like to know it's able to grow back again. Anyway I wouldn't be eligible for it because my hair is blonde but whatever.

That's the part when I start thinking 'ah, crap, another feckin' wax..' :o

I know... woman's hips, little girl's bits. bleurgh.
Went through a Brazilian phase before I got a mortgage. That petered soon afterwards. Now I go for 'extended bikini'... basically a generous thong should cover whatever hair is left, and then I take a trimmer to the more sensitive bits. I don't buy into that BS about waxing year-round so that it doesn't hurt when you return to it before your summer holiday. The sensation of hairless skin rising in goosebumps under my opaques creeps me out. Sorry.

Well I'd probably go for a Brazilian/French bikini when I'm getting the laser done so there'd still be a 'strip' of hair at the front. I don't like the 'plucked chicken' look much either!:o

Just out of interest how much are you paying ? im seriously considering it and have been qouted 350

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,529 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

It's currently €60 (special offer I think) a session in Hume St Laser (that's for bikini and underarms). I wanted somewhere that pays by session because I'm quite fair so they recommended that I do a couple of sessions so they can see if it's working rather than me pay a grand or something for a load of sessions and then it doesn't take anyway.
I'm just shocked at how painless it was! If waxing was a 10 this would be a half! Plus it only costs about the same as an underarm and bikini wax so I thought what the hell! :)

Anyone ever epilate down there? I have an epilator for my legs and while it does hurt, it's more than manageable if done in small stages. Would be interested in anyone's experiences of using one along their bikini line..

I've used it on the front bits which are grand but find its no good between your legs as theres no precision with it. Too scary as well. I stick to the auld veet wax!

I shaved recently, after holding off for a long while and now i remember why i neglected it for so long, I was itchy for weeks and it wouldn't be very becoming to be scratching my crotch in public!

Is there any natural hair removal creams people would recommend? I was looking at the standard ones in Boots but would prefer something more natural if possible!

Yep I have used it on the outer areas to afraid to go for the honey pot area itself, and yes the pain is very high so I have a glass of something before attempting it!
