Weekly Total; 20.3 mls. This is gonna have to double real soon.

Year to date mileage; 899 miles. Plummeted to 38th in the 1000 mile challenge, those i was ahead of all year are finishing up at the mo, ah well.

    Mon 23rd Aug
, Back to the grind after saturday, 4mls in 35'40 (8'55), recovery run, felt a little dead, didnt even try to pick it up, i really did leave it all on the road in the 10 miler.

Rest day today. Quite a strong pain at the side of my foot on the underside which i felt after saturdays race. Yesterdays run didnt really help it. I had it last year after the DCM and it went away. Went for a walk in the phx park tonight with the flatmates, loads of runners out. Foot quite sore at times. I will roll a golf ball under it for a while and see if that works.Might have to take tomorrow off too, or run with painkillers :) I got 80 diclofenac's in Barca for 3 euro and they work far too well.

Weds 25th August; 9 mls in 74'21 (8'16) today out in Annes Park and the clontarf seafront. Mostly grass which is always good. Still have the foot injury, worse on the road than on the grass and starting to get worried about it. Worst case scenario is its a stress fracture, hopefully not. Easy 4 on grass tomorrow and a rest day then will hopefully sort it out, gonna go to someone otherwise.

Went to the doctor who specialises in sports today and he said i either have a stress fracture of the cuboid (between the heel and metatarsals) or my calcaneo ligament is strained. I have an MRI on Monday which will reveal all. Cycling till then.

Sorry to hear. Hopefully it will be a good news on monday and won't take too long to heal.

Cheers, i know how you felt early this year now. Injury is not getting much better with time unfortunately but Monday will tell the story. I've given up on running the half competitively now. 3 weeks away is far too soon.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,991 ✭✭✭metamorphosis

you will know on monday anyway but if its been there for a bit id say nip it but who knows - 3 weeks is both a really short and really long time so you could be grand - plenty more half maras and time to make pbs even though it would be nice to get and do them now. Thats the hardest thing i found when i was out anyway and when i couldnt run sure the whole of limerick starts running because of the GLR. Made it even harder!!! plenty of things to do to keep you occupied in the meantime. Change of scenery might help the legs too

So an admin error means my MRI is delayed till later in the week  but to be honest i don't think i need one. Foot is rapidly improving and i can walk on it with almost no pain now. Stress fractures do not heal this fast. I hope to be back running by the weekend, only on grass for a week. Not gonna race the half, seems foolish at this stage. I feel like i will do the DCM now, sounds crazy but i just cant not run it, if you know what i mean. Cycling was ok yesterday.

Mon 30th August, 2 x 30 mins cycling, to sixmilebridge and back, just under 9 mls each way, 10 mins in between. Put the garmin on the handlebars and cycled away. High HR but thats to be expected.

    Good News.
Will you be running the half anyway?

What are you hoping for in DCM?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,049 ✭✭✭Brianderunner

^ Oh yeah doing the half anyway, just use it as a m.p. run or something. Is the same session in Ryans planned afterward? Goal for DCM is not to die like i always do. So far i have 6 marathons (DNF, 3'38, 3'32, 3'22, DNF, 3'54) Start at 8'15 for the first few then work my way up to the 3'30 balloons and see from there. My offer to pace you for Rathfarnam for sub 20 is still there if you want it.

I am sure Ryans will most likely happen again alright :p

It would be cool if you could pace me for sub 20 at Rathfarnham, but do you really want to pay €20 to pace someone?
Talk to you about this at the HM

By the way, my main goal for the marathon is also not to die!!

Of course it'll happen :) And we have the extra excuse that it's my birthday... Not that we need any more excuse than the fact we're racing...

Glad to you are on the mend. Very frustrating being injured. Look forward to racing you in Dublin!!

^ Won't be much of a race between us in the DCM, i'll probably bomb out at mile 17 like i always do. Heard about your injury on your log, i blame the 10 miler.

Weds 1st Sept, 23 miles cycling in 87 mins around co. clare, Limerick to clonlara to sixmilebridge and back home. Very hilly and tough, hit 35mph down the hills, great stuff!

Its been a week now since i ran but i don't miss it if i'm honest. Foot continues to heal but i won't be sure till i test it out friday back in dublin.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,049 ✭✭✭Brianderunner

Fri 3rd Sept, 4 mls easy enough in 35'03 (8'46). All on grass in clontarf, No major pains in the foot. First run for 9 days, its 2 years since i've gone that long without running. Busy weekend on the way, going to the races tomorrow and the all ireland final sunday, have to shout on tipp i suppose since my dads from there. I'll be happy if i sneak in a run one of the 2 days.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,049 ✭✭✭Brianderunner

Sun 5th Sept, 5 mls in 40'08 (8'02), faster run than friday, back to respectable pace. High hr though, it seems i have lost a little fitness during the injury. Croke park for the hurling after, was shouting for tipp, but not that loudly!

Heading out now again in the rain, should be a barrel of laughs! I hate running in the rain but it has to be done.

Week total, a whopping 9 mls.

    Yearly total; 917 mls

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,049 ✭✭✭Brianderunner

Mon 6th Sept, 8 mls in 67'40 (8'28). Good run but cold, windy, wet and miserable. Not looking forward to the winter. Stamina still there after injury. Last 2 mls quite tough.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,049 ✭✭✭Brianderunner

Tues 7th Sept, 1 mile on ucd track pacing in 5'47. it felt ok to be honest, i could have gone 15-20 secs quicker, 47 secs off pb. Definite rest day today, i've ran 4 out of 5 days since i started back running and thats a bit much. Busy weekend ahead, jimmy carr thursday night, over to england (again) to the chester races friday and everton vs manutd saturday. Rooneys going to be eaten alive.

Thurs 9th Sept, 5 ms in 41'24 (8'17) not easy not hard. Nice low HR for a change, probably back to where i was before the injury. Jimmy Carr afterwards, great stuff.

Fri and saturday, races in chester and everton vs manutd yesterday in liverpool, unbeilevable finish and atmosphere there.

Sun 12th Sept, LSR in phoenix pk with menopause, chinguetti and Ronan. Just over 19.15 mls in 3'01'37 (9'29). I haven't gone beyond 11 mls since early June so its just as well the pace was slow. First 15 were ok then the legs felt a little heavy, upped it the last mile in under 8 min pace (whoosh!) Not totally wrecked after, my LSR's are normally closer to 8 min pace but no harm to mix it up a bit.

Week total, 33 miles, much better, although i drank 8 out of the last 10 nights, gotta kick the booze before the DCM!

Year to date mileage, 950 miles, gotta do 37 miles this week before the half on Saturday (which i'm only doing for the laugh) if i want to hit 1000 miles at the finish on saturday.

Tues 14th Sept, 12 mls in 1'46'59 (8'55) medium long run. Up to cratloe woods and back in co. clare, very hilly course. Took it handy throughout. No ill effects from sundays lsr.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,049 ✭✭✭Brianderunner

Weds Sept 15th, 4 mls general aerobic (good old p&d for the terminology) in 32'33 (8'08). Felt ok, the 2 long runs were at an easy pace so they didnt leave me as beat up as usual.

I'm 34 miles short of the 1k for the year, minus 13 on sat which leaves me with 21 miles to do before saturday. Not looking likely now, although i have a sneaky suspicion i have missed a run or 2 here and there so i could have another 10-12 miles to add on. I'll go through my running diary and logs when i get home from listowel races.

So after updating the mileage in my running diary from the logs i have found i missed out on over 50 mls  Which means i completed 1000mls during the LSR last sunday somewhere around the magazine fort in the park. I did have a feeling but i didnt think it would be that much, problem is i didnt update my running diary since May and with the 2 logs on here a week or 2 got lost in translation.

Good to reach the milestone anyway, first time i have hit over 1000 since 2007, i was never gonna run 50 mls this week. Hopefully i can kick on now and hit 1500 for the year.

17th Sept, 4 mls in 33'55 (8'29) went easy. Felt great today, the best i've felt in weeks.

Half marathon tomorrow, gonna do it in about 1'45, a handy pace for me (1'28 last year), no point going flat out after the injury. Its great to be able to run one of these races with no pressure.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,049 ✭✭✭Brianderunner

Well yesterday was nothing more than a glorified training run. I just tried to keep the pace at bang on 8 min miling all the way. Tough to hold myself back at times but i'm doing this pace in Dublin so want to get used to it. Had to do a fast one to make up for the garmins inaccuracy at mile 10, as i was 20 secs over at the mile marker. After that the effortless cruise was gone but still felt good over the last 2 miles.

Mileage for the week, 33.5 mls

Year to date mileage, 1046 miles

Mon 20th Sept, went out tonight after 9pm . Glad i did in the end cause it was a lovely night out in clontarf, not a breath of wind. Did 6 mls in 46'39 (7'44). After an easy first mile 8'20, picked it up to 7'53, then 7'44, 7'38, 7'38, 7'27. Fast general aerobic run is the best description for it. Fitness is not totally back yet but not too far away. Good to run off the 12 pints of cider i had after the half on saturday.

p.s. my 1 year anniversary of joining boards.
