Does anybody else find that when they're surfing the internet on this Galaxy phone that it vibrates, freezes, vibrates a couple more times and the internet shuts down. This just happened me a moment ago and has happened numerous times before.

Yup, its happened to me a few times.

Installed the official nordic gingerbread (JVB) yesterday. Don't see any difference with JVK. Working find. No problems to report so far.

Edit: Had my first ever random reboot this morning. Was viewing the three.ie homepage, handset froze and then reboot. Hopefully it was a once off.

I have product code set to XEU at the moment.
To upgrade to gingerbread is it just a matter of changing the product code to a region where gingerbread is available and updating via Kies?
I'm wondering whether to wait for a Darky's release or update via Kies.
Seems to be a lot involved in flashing Darky's gingerbread. It's not just as simple as flashing via CWM.
Maybe less chance for somethig to go wrong if I update through Kies??
Also...is it easy to revert to 2.2.1 if phone needs to get sent for repair for any reason??

First dude, I would`nt bother updating Ginger balls through Kies, cause just as you do all the developers will be coming out with there version of Ginger porn and it will be better, so take a look around the other ROM`s when there Gingerfied and try it, any of them will be better than shtock Gingerarse.

@G1032 - I flashed using ODIN. Downloaded the firmware from samfirmware.com

The lads appear to be pretty impressed with Darky's ROM - maybe give that a go. I'm happy enough on "ginger balls" :s

    Whats this about then...
"According to Vodafone UK, the update has been "temporarily suspended" by Google due to "an issue".

Thanks. Was on Darky's before but on Insanity ROM now.
Might just wait for a darky's stable to come out and flash that. It's all a bit messy though by the looks of it.
How's 2.3.3 anyway. Any issues since the random reboot?

Interesting story about the Samsung Galaxy over on the BBC this evening: Apple sues Samsung for 'copying' iPhones and iPad.

mech, Dont trust samsung to get it right anyway. Cyanogen mod 7 is where it's at! Slightly buggy, and I had a brick for a few minutes as something went wrong somewhere when flashing the first time.

Luckily I could still get into download mode and flashed back to an almost stock 2.2.1, and then CM7 again. Worked fine the second time. My poor heart!

See its things like this that I don`t want to come across again. I`ve already had a bricked phone twice and me heart fell off, so I want a good solid 100% going to work guide for the next release.

It was bricked until I realised that download mode was still working and flashed back to froyo then forward to CM. Not fully happy with it. The dev for the SGS seems to be really slow and frankly poor. There is massive potential there for great things, but still full of holes at the moment.

Have you got Kies installed on your laptop?

Better idea is to put the phone into USB debug mode and plug it in again. Should recognise as a removable drive and you wont have to go near that piece of sh1te kies.

On a personal note, I've gone back to Darkys 9.5. CM7 was made of fail. Phone.apk kept on crashing because it wouldnt ask for my pin on start up and couldnt get passed that. Had to wake up this morning so for an alarm that would work I had to flash back and forth to get darkys at about 4 am. I am grumpy this morning!

ok im on darkys 9.5.but id like to try a few other roms.

would someone be kind enough to tell me what are the tools that i need are to keep what i already have, if you know what i mean.in other words my phone is fine the way it is right now but me being me i like to experiment so i just want to flash a few roms and see what they are like but if i dont like them just go back to what i have.
this is where im stuck.i have my back up and ive backed up everything.but if i do a complete wipe wont that mybackup be gone?so how do you restore it?

    cheers

maybe the answer is so obvious im not seeing it.

Both mybackup and Titanium Backup save the backups to the internal sd card, which is NOT usually wiped when installing a custom/stock rom. The sd card may be used to add extra files/folders for customizations, but existing files/folders should remain unaffected

Then you just download the actual app from the market again and restore.

so a full wipe doesnt actually mean a full wipe?there are some files left on there to get it going again?

Wipe just gets rid of apps and personal data. The files are still on the phone so settings should remain. Backups are still important though.

Trying to sort out the android market on the GFs Galaxy, but ti will not allow me to register giving an error saying the phone is not set up for data etc.

Now, using the internet on it is no problem so dunno why it will not allow this to be registered. Anyone have a similar issue?

Does anyone know how to delete the annoying Emobile boot welcome screen and jingle?

Can anyone hazard a guess as to what might be causing my phone to fail to connect to saved wifi networks approximately 30/40% of the time. No matter how many times I turn wifi on/off, restart the phone or unplug the router the phone fails to connect to saved wifi connections while other times it connects without any hitch. Also, gps rarely locks on when I turn it on for an app. Does this sound like a faulty phone or a software related issue.

Think the only way to get rid of the emobile boot welcome screen is to root your phone. Well worth it to be fair.

Not sure about the other things.

Could be your APN settings, can you use the market as normal on wifi, or is it just normal browsing you can do?

If your rooted you have to delete the Bootanimation.zip, but unless you know what your doing I`d leave it, its just a few seconds.

Does it see the saved routers? When you type in your password does it say remembered?

GPS would be a separate issue I`m imagine, there are GPS fix`s out there, depending on what ROM your on.

If you still can`t resolve your issue`s then a re-flash might be needed.

Anyone upgraded to a new rom from darkys 9.5?

I am mad to change rom, just for something different. But I want something stable and possibly gingerbread.

My honest opinion is that it is not yet worth upgrading. You will lose the stability that you have and will only gain minor things. Eyecandy like the screenoff animation and maybe the over scroll glow.

That being said, I'm on 10.0rc5b2 with darkcore 2.1. It was a lot of hassle to get here, and I basically have what I had before. The overglow isnt working, and the them I want isnt working either. The only big advantage for me is that the battery usage is far clearer and I can see when a single app is using a tonne of power. (GPSstatus and google maps if you leave tracking on)
