I love it. It's retro and a bit cheesy in an 80s porno sort of way. Many of the attributes commonly used to describe this log :)

Wednesday: 8 miles ~ 7 min pace. Jesus this was very very tough. The mind was willing and wanted to run but the body was fighting and telling the mind to feck off. Had planned on 14 miles beforehand but after 5 minutes I thought about turning back. Thought I'd get into the grove but it was evident I was running myself into the ground so cut the run short. Booked a blood test for tomorrow. Viral sinus thing has cleared up further today but still very tired so just want to get hematocrit levels etc checked to make sure it's not an iron issue. Will probably be low due to relative high WBC count but worth having a look into either way. Nothing major.

    Thursday: Day off wrecked.com.

Friday: 9 miles with ecoli and friend. Very cold out.

Saturday: 6 tasty little mile commute from chez TRR to my mammys. Promse of juicy steak at destination put a spring in my step I tell you.

Sunday: 10 tough tough miles. Was supposed to meet somebody, won't mention names (Ecoli) but they didn't turn up and I hadn't the will power to run the planned 14 miles solo. Still a little run down

Monday: Another day off to try and shift virus/bug

Tuesday: 7 handy miles with company. Nice and handy.

Wednesday: 13 miles @ 7 minute pace with company. Legs feeling good even though it's still a little cold and windy out there.

Fooking disaster. I'm doing the road relays this weekend but am heading to a stags in Sligo on the Saturday night. Really don't want to do relays now and tried to get out of it but I'd be letting the other two lads down as we have an outside of a medal, although when they see the head on me they may rue not booting me from the team. Well actually I tell a lie I really wnat to do the relays but can't actually miss the stags as it's my future brother in laws. I'm oing to try and take it very ham and cheesy. I'm down for the mile leg so hopefully I won't puke too much :o

other two lads... so you're on a three man team... so you're collecting your running pension? Tunguska on the team too, is he? :pac:

Yeah yeah whatever. Reason I've been bumped to the old boy team is because Tunguska is injured and so is one of our top lads so our senior team is seriously weakened. We have an outside shot at top 3 in M35. It's a bull$hit category but I'm a bull$hitter so will fit in nicely.

PS aren't you like 87 or something. Can't believe you have the audacity to slag a baby faced runner like myself ;)

Just make sure to get the 4'n-1 in on the way home on sat night and you'll be fine on Sunday.

Ha ha. I said I was going to take it easy. I'll probably just get the 3-in-1.

Thursday: 9 miles @ 6.35 pace. I generally run faster when I'm on my own, I was solo today. This is not necessarily a good thing as I have a bit of a session planned tomorrow.

Got a text last night to ask would I run the 2 mile leg on Sunday. I'm disgusted because if I wasn't heading out the Saturday night I'd love to have given the 2 mile a right rattle. I fear this could be a vomit 2 miler.

I had an idea who he was but had to check. It's a possibility. Think I'll bring nappies. Better to be safe than sorry

Friday: 10 miles with 6 miles @ 6 min mile pace. Just a little wake up call to the body. So not looking forward to the road relays, stupid stags

    Saturday: debotury. Sweet jesus

Sunday: Competed in M35 road relays today. Drove straight from stags in Sligo to Raheny. Club captain seen the head on me and I was moved back down to the mile leg from the 2 miler. Ran final mile leg and have an unofficial split of 4.52. A fooking miracle all things considered. I moved us from 6th to 5th and was gaining on 4th but his lead was too big. Actually thought I was going to have to stop and hurl at 800 metres but there is just something about a race environment. The fear of being caught by 20 odd lads behind me and seeing 4th and 5th slowly come back to me helped me keep going, it's fecking primal :) I was all over the shop when I finished. I have a touch of sports induced asthma, hasn't been a problem in a while but I have been on the inhalers a couple of times today. It's calming down now thankfully. Will definitely be back and prepare better next year. Great days racing.

4.30 leg according to AAI. I'm obviously claiming this although I've been told officially by club captain that I ran 4.50

Excellent stuff well done (and hungover too, I presume!). Did you put down your breakfast roll for the race or carry it with you like a baton?

Any plans to do any graded meets this summer? Would be good to see a few familiar faces down there and see what you can knock out in your current solid shape.

Thanks, wasn't hungover as such but felt very sluggish and a little dehydrated. I ended up eating out for both my lunch and dinner on the Saturday and the rich food didn't help matters. Obviously the beer had no negative effects ;) No breakfast rolls involved.

No to be honest. I'm an all or nothing type of guy and if I was going to run track I would have been training totally different up until now. Eyes firmly fixed on this day 29 weeks. I've a lot to do to build up my aerobic base and speed endurance if I want to have a crack at 2.2X so that's all that matters now. Having said that I may run a 5k or 10k (preferably nationals) on the track but I'm not committing to them in any serious way.

Monday: 10 miles @ 7min pace. Nice handy run felt like a handy jog compared to yesterday's lung buster. My head was still a little light headed this morning and I've coughed up some things that must have entered my lungs the day I made my first holy communion! yuck (waits for digger's inappropriate holy communion comment :pac:)

I'm in a similar situation facing into Chicago, except I've only 187 days to go (26 weeks and 6 days). How are you structuring your racing? Difficult to keep focus for that length of time, so some races are needed in the meantime. I'm thinking a 10k on May bank holiday to see where the fitness is at, follow this with specific 10k training (but weekly long runs of 18ish miles) and take a pop at a 10k in early-July, before then embarking on a 12/13 week marathon plan maybe with the Frank Duffy and another 10k to keep it interesting.

Listen don't you be looking that far into the future. You've a mega marathon to negotiate in just under 2 weeks time. Treat it like it's your last and then when you've finished you can plan your next one. Today's motivational speech was brought to you free of charge from TRR :)

20 weeks, no fecking way. Very specific 12 week marathon plan for me. Having said that I'll try build you long run etc.

Sounds like a plan to me. Will probably do soemthing similar. I'm also looking at doing some marathon distance long runs in June/July but that's up in the air at the moment. We've started (just last week) implementing a tempo run. Idea is we'll build that up to 10 miles and do it weekly on top of a separate LSR with nothing else but mileage and the odd race. When we get into the 12 week plan tempo will become MP every second week up to 13 miles, alternative week will just be harder pace. That's it for us (group of 4 of us). No fancy MP, threshold, track sessions etc. We can all run low 5 minute miles in 5km races so need to work on holding 5.40s for 26 miles which is no where near our lactic thresholds. Of course the above is subject to change but it will be very straight forward.

Tuesday: 11 miles with 7 miles at 6 minute pace. This was a toughie and if I didn't have company would have struggled. Just happy enough to get it done. As I said to my friend, "this feels a little tough but in less than 29 weeks hopefully it will feel like jogging pace :)"

In other news being the big thicko I am I forgot to enter the great Ireland run. That's right the race I've been targeting since Christmas. Can get a non AAI championship entry but not interested in that. AAI competition secretary is having none of it so I'm hoping a phone call and maybe a nod a wink and a flash of my bright blues if needed may be able to swing it. I'm not holding out much hope though.
