I'd say the credit is for the Hurling image appearing on the TV, most of these sports images are heavily copyrighted.

All I've been getting for weeks is a domain hosting site with the following message: "Saorview.ie

Register365 has registered this domain for a customer If this is your domain, login to your control panel"

The nearest thing to a Saorview website I can find is: http://www.rte.ie/saorview/index.html

Sky is satellite and has nothing to do with DTT which is received via an Aerial. You'll either need a outdoor Aerial mounted outside or in your attic or if your reception is good you get it using an indoor aerial.

http://saorview.ie/ (also http://www.saorview.ie/ ) seems to be a copy of it. Indeed It wasn't there a day or two ago.

Thank you. Can the English freeview channels be tuned into the tv through the Sky dish?

Freeview is a UK DTT service which is received through an Aerial and not via a satellite dish, in general you will not get it in Ireland unless you live certain east coast area's or by the border.

There is another UK TV service called Freesat which requires a satellite dish, a sky dish will work perfectly for this.

Unless your TV is Freesat and not Freeview it is in general useless for receiving UK channels in Ireland.

What make and model is it ? have you checked the user manual ?

Might be geoblocked against non ROI IPs?

It's a Freeview TV, I can't say for sure without the exact model number but I think it's actually FreeviewHD TV, which if it is the case it will have mpeg4. However I believe that some Panasonic TV's even with MPEG4 will have problem with Saorview due to a non-standard firmware.

It will require an Aerial to receive Saorview and your Sky dish is useless for it.

Could be DNS propagation. Likely work tomorrow

it does have MPeg 4. I just need to get an aerial so. I'm in Wexford and I believe we should be able to pick up the channels from the U.K. I just don't know how. Thanks again for all your help.

Just tuned in to these digital channels. Found 16. No sign of TV3, despite RTE news, Saotview website and Irish times all saying it will be there.

Did I not tune it in correctly.? Do I need to know the frequency and bandwidth settings for it?

    Thanks for any help!

Yeah I heard of some folks receiving UK Freeview and FreeviewHD from the Preseli transmitter in Wexford. Your best bet is to ask your neighbours and see if they've got a working set-up, Or ring a local installer.

If you need further advise it might be best to start your own thread , detail your locality too .

    Best of luck

Anybody watch 6 o clock news today , the news reader said SAORVIEW was on test trial , with RTE 1 +2, TV3 , TG4 and RTE NEWS NOW , was the TV3 bit just a big 6 o clock news LIE. WHAT IS RTE AT.

The RTÉNL 1 channel had the TV3 EPG on it earlier and the channel name was actually changed to TV3 briefly so I'd say they're not far off having it up. Just ironing out some technicalities before switching it on hopefully.

I know , but i just cant imagine the BBC on their 6 o clock news announcing that Channel 4 was on FREEVIEW if it was'nt , its a great little Country we live in, Dont let the Truth get in the way of a good News story...

Right so I've just looked in my crystal ball :D and I reckon in October they'll start with
    1. RTE 1 ( assuming it's possible to switch from SD to HD, then with odd HD program starting in 2011 )
    2. RTE 2
    3. TV3
    4. TG4
    5. OTV/RTE News Now - Shared Channel
    6. RTE Kids/RTE 3 - Shared Channel

RTE Kids will be similar to Cbeebies and CBBC combined.
RTE3 will have reruns of some of the better late night RTE1 & 2 programs at a more reasonable hour.

When ASO is completed and the DTT service is launched in full I can see 3E & RTE Movies joining the line up and RTE1 will have all content broadcast/upscaled to HD.

I've no factually basis for making these comments, it will be interesting to look back and see how wrong I was :D

You are quite psychic, although TV3 is missing for too many people, and RTE3 is a dream. Good shot though!

12am and not anything but a testcard in sight. Plus, some groovy music (maybe the engineers are having a night in?) :D:D

Was half expecting it to come on at midnight myself. Bit of a joke that people logging onto the official site tomorrow will now see:

"On the 29th of October 2010, SAORVIEW will be turned on as a trial service. From that date, RTÉ One, RTÉ Two, TV3, TG4 and RTÉ News Now will be broadcast as trial digital services."

    Oh well.

Don't expect anything to change on the TV3 front until Monday afternoon at least, the reason the website and announcement was made today was Monday is the first and today was the last day of Mon-Fri Business in October and these guys probably don't work weekends unless there is an emergency and a transmitter goes offline or something.

TV3 can be on it if they want from 29th...
    Everyone has to pay...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20 chatterboxes

I would expect them to actually not be doing work now LOL

Wow, they just played Nine News yet AGAIN :D Yay!. RTE News Now = Drivel. TV3 on Saorview = Dri.. sorry, lemme rephrase that. TV3 on Saorview = Drivel. :p

    It's called free-to-air, no-one has "to pay" :D

Surely they do want to be on it though. How else do you explain the changes with the channel name and EPG earlier? Was definitely something going on.

    1. This is like a live chat! LOL
    2. The engineers are doing no work at all. They're just pressing random buttons.
    3. Since I subscribed to this thread, my email notifier is going crazy :D:D

Was half expecting it to come on at midnight myself.

If they're having technical problems it could be next week before it's sorted out now that we're into the weekend. That's what this phase of the launch is about I guess, ironing out the problems before it goes fully operational in 5 or 6 months time.

So I read about saorview today on aertel, So what exactly was done today, as many of you are aware many of us were getting the trial already, was the rest of the transmitters just switched to transmit saorview as of today?

I don't think anything has changed.
