The dual charges issue doesn't seem to be the problem if RTÉNL were ready to carry TV3.

RTENL would have to do all the preparation work on the basis that TV3 might change their mind at the eleventh hour so it could easily still be the problem .

As we've has no official response/release from any source can we assume discussions are continuing?

I presume they are still continuing on the same basis as the discussion about TV3 being on all analogue transmitters

I think that we should all politely and firmly demand that TV3 give permission to RTE/RTENL to show its channel immediately on Saorview by emailing, faxing or phoning TV3 and tell them that if they don't that we will boycott the channel entirely! We pay 160 a year for crap tv and we are subjected to waiting until TV3 decide that they want to be carried for free during the Saorview trial period. "We didn't get our way with the commercial pay tv process so now we will refuse to allow our station on the Saorview trial and be carried by RTENL" That is bloody typical childish Irish behaviour and mentality on TV3's part. :D

Lots of foot stamping hissy fits.
Methinks they want to go back to their original name "Tallaght TV"
or perhaps the other ould favourite "Broadcasting all over Coronation Street, Now"
    :)

CUSH QUOTE]The question is if everything was in place why did TV3 refuse to give permission on the day of the launch to be carried on the trial service? The dual charges issue doesn't seem to be the problem if RTÉNL were ready to carry TV3. ]

If TV3 refused to give permission on the day of the launch, RTE would have known well before the 6 o clock news, so they would have had plenty of opportunity to either drop the announcement ,or make the announcement and say TV3 will be joining later.

Its like saying we only need 4 billion when you know we need 7 billion or may 15 billion , but you just lie and wing it:D

    From the Saorview site:
"As stated, RTÉ planned on turning on the TV3 channel as part of the trial service on SAORVIEW on the 29th of October. However there is a procedural issue at TV3 which is preventing RTÉ from doing so at this juncture. RTÉ hopes to receive TV3’s consent to turn on the channel shortly".
    And:
"The trial service will operate for varying durations and will be subject to some variations and interruptions. Permanent transmissions will not commence until the full SAORVIEW service is formally launched in spring 2011".

TV3 has just been switched on.

It has just been added to the Sky epg in the UK on channel 143. I don't think it's going to be on the irish epg only through other channels. Nice to see TV3 on SAORVIEW roll on 3e.:)

3e? You'd be better off watching low quality YouTube clips in full screen with your monitor set to the wrong aspect ratio.

I knew my letter to TV3 would have the required affect. It would have been silly for them not to be on it from the start as they can increase viewership and coverage.

:) Hands UP ! I was one of the many doubting Thomas's, I didn't think we would see TV3 on Saorview for a long time. So well done to whoever sorted it all out, whether that was RTE, the Dept, TV3 or all three. It's good news, upwards and onwards now for Saorview. At last we have free availability of a digital service of all four Irish channels and don't have to pay Sky or UPC, if we don't want to.
BBC One HD at 7pm also, so it's been a good day, broadcasting wise !

I'd rather see the bandwidth/resolution increased for RTE1.

Yep. FM reception is crap where I am unless I connect via RF cable to roof top aerial.

Commercial radio stations are not likely to appear - they're not even on the DAB service!

I'd settle for TodayFM on Astra/Sky. At Least Newstalk is on the SKY EPG.

glimmerman123 was the first to post in 2 threads prior 4:30 yesterday afternoon and probably hundreds of posts since

Remember it's only a trial service and still subject to interruption, although I pretty much considered the engineering tests to be permanent since late Jan, rarely if ever going back to analogue since then.
This is being done to verify the engineering integrity of the systems and to confirm coverage. The trial service will operate for varying durations and will be subject to some variations and interruptions. Permanent transmissions will not commence until the full SAORVIEW service is formally launched in spring 2011.

Yep, TV3 showing here in Donegal too, although I am only using a Neotion NP4 cam on a MPEG-2 tv, so it can be a little hit and miss for DTT anyway.
RTE 1 & 2 smooth and clear, TV3 stuttery motion, oh well, so much for buying LCD tv too soon!:(

I'd guess you don't see the HD test loop on that :)

No I only get audio but I did see it last week on an MPEG-4 tv after I had installed a new aerial at a house. Impressive.

Power City, and no, not any MPEG4 box. There is a Tesco "Freeview HD" box a similar price to the Powercity Walker Saorview box. Online sales only.

    I'd wait a while yet...
Or Get a dual tuner "Freeview+ HD" PVR if in a hurry. Your VHS isn't much good in comparison.

The "official" RTE 2 HD lite has transmitted no programs yet.
