Who is the nameo of jebus voted 'USA'???!! :D The 20 people who did have obviously never been down deep south or in the mid-west, where women are often treated as second class citizens. About as sexually liberated as Peig Sayers. As for the 12 who voted 'Ireland', sure god love ye, ye obviously don't get out much.

For me it would have to be Holland. The Germans would be a close second. Ireland would be well down the list.

People who think that a porn industry/movie and tv/SATC = reality and 'sexually liberated' women are everywhere.

Having met and lived with American girls from all over the states, east to west, they are on average far more conservative than Irish girls would be when it would come to dress, confidence in body image, attitudes to casual sex, sex as a conversation topic etc.

Women in the South or the Mid West are threated as second class citizens? what the hell are you blabbering on about?

These places are extremely religious not in the Afganistan "cover your face or i'll rape you" way, so they may be a bit frigid because of that but surely the millions of the sexually liberated women living in the main cites like NYC, LA, Vegas, Miami, etc make up for that?

Irish girls better dressed, more confident, more open to sex than girls in LA or NYC?

In my experience they dress more conservatively, they are not as confident in flaunting their bodies in a similar fashion that you'd see in Irish nightclubs which is due to the conservatism in dress, and they wouldn't be anywhere close to as open to discussing sex or sexual matters as the Irish would.

Contrary to popular belief SATC and The Hills etc do not actually represent most young American females.

    English Slappers esp Essex Slappers

btw - Holland should be on the list

Well, I think you could somewhat justifiably define sexually liberated as being liberated from sex and our primal urges, so, I suppose that would mean the answer would be whichever countries put the most emphasis on looking to the higher aspects of being human. Maybe highly Christian countries. Not sure which one would come top there.

Seriously American has by far the highest rates of teen pregnacies in the world, more than double than Ireland.

USA is also way higher up than Ireland on the frequency of sex statistics:

USA is on the list for most casual sex, Ireland isn't with the UK no 1

If people choose to be more conservative on what limits they have, I don't think that means that they aren't "liberated" to make whatever choice they want or indeed that they are "chained". It seems to be a fallacious concept.

Certainly, so long as they are free to choose.
However conservatism or 'liberalism' towards sex is not necessarily a choice. Just as people develop sexual fetishes, due to imprints at an earlier age, so too can people be imprinted with varying sexual according to their upbringing. These conditioned choices are not choices at all, rather it is robotic behaviour according to a certain inputted program.
The breaking of these shackles would be another type of 'sexual liberalism.
'Love under will', if you will.

    Italy, by a long shot.

Sexually liberated means the most teenage pregnancies, the highest frequency of sex and loads of casual sex?

    Suppose it is AH.

    The Vatican ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 344 ✭✭vodafoneproblem

You're assuming they're slaves to their sexuality, fryup. I would say they're less so, on average, than any country. And you could argue that the religious women living in the Vatican are the most sexually liberated as they're not slaves to it.

Which has been linked to the deficiency in sex education and lack of openess about sexual activity etc. A socio-economi breakdown on the American figures would tell you a lot.

True, I'll concede the last 2 as they are debatable measures of sexual liberation, but to me, increased teen pregnancies shows a lack of sexual liberation.

Good God of almighty, this is what the pill promised. Sexual liberation of women with a dramatically reduced risk of pregnancy. Maybe something went wrong along the way?

The pill gave as much sexual liberty to men as it did to women!

Suppression or denial is hardly what one could call freedom or liberty.

I'd have to disagree with you there. Sometimes you have to deny lower instincts to give yourself the freedom to pursue and experience the higher things. Like I said, sexual liberty can mean liberty from it rather than being the liberty to be taken over by it.

Exactly. My worry is that sexual liberation is maybe a lot about gratifying male sexual wants rather than true liberation for women. My worry is the likes of Loaded and Nuts magazines and women pandering to what "men" want in these types of mags, web sites.

    Where's the liberation in that?

In the particular point I was debating, I'd say No. Hugely increased rates in teenage pregnancies does not mean increased sexual liberation, for either sex!

It depends on who you listen to. Personally, I don't think it's very liberating for them to appear in **** mags. Kinda reminds me of the idea that Spice Girls re-invented "Girl Power" by getting teenage girls to dress like sluts.
