Redemption Fellowship Porter , strong coffee taste and malty. With a zingy hoppy bitterness at the end.

Not bad but not a session beer.

had a few btls of M&S irish stout last nite.its from the carlow brewing co.
a nice coffee taste to it.i really enjoyed them.

on a seperate note im going to make a beef and ale pie this wend.
going to use either fullers esb or abbot ale.have a few other ales in the house.
what would you recommend i use.
I use London Pride when making a stew, works beautifully. I've tried Guinness and it didn't taste as nice.

Yup, don't know why beef and Guinness is so famous when almost any other darkish beer tastes better in a stew.
Best I've made was with Schneider Aventinus.
Had one last week that a friend made with Leffe Bruin which was really good too.
London Pride sounds ideal to me .

I must try one with Liefmanns Guldenband - I'm told it's the ultimate.

Sambrooks Wandle, a mild bitter with a mild taste. Nothing special

    This evening I bought:

    O'Haras stout
    O'Haras extra stout
    O'Haras red
    O'Haras pale ale

Just started the extra stout. Delicious!

Never had any of these before. Only recently discovered the joy of ales and stouts.

Finally got to Against the Grain and tried

Coppers Coast - Had it from the cask but wasn't a big fan. I'd just had a big dinner and though it was too warm and a bit filing. I think it would be nicer on another day.
Trouble Brewing Or - Nice but nothing spectacular. I actually thought it was a bit cold after having the copper coast, so might be nicer on different night :)
Trouble Brewing Dark Arts - I really like this and it was by far the nicest on the night. I really wanted to have another but the GF wanted to come home :(

As a non beer related note, Buenos Aires Grill does a fantastic steak :)

Well, woke up this morning feeling refreshed. No hangover at all.

I think I've found my new regular drinks!

Particularly enjoyed the extra stout. Really tasty.

Extra stout? I have not come across that one from Carlow yet.
Unless... is it Leann Follain you are talking about?

The one with the yellowish/white label. It definitely has "extra stout" written on it.

    Was thinking the same myself.

I think you may be right.

I've never actually tried it but I do have a bottle in the fridge that I picked up from Drinkstore (along with a box of hop monsters!) that's just itching to be tried. I love all the other Carlow beers (except for Curim) so I've got high hopes for it.

Deuchars IPA from cask, not bad have to say.

Currently enjoying a bottle of O'Haras Irish red... only.... It seems more black than red.. and tastes a lot more stout than red ale. I don't remember it being this... black.. Mistake in labeling, mistake in manufacture or mistake in memory? It's still very tasty, but tasted more like the O'Hara's stout I had a few weeks ago.

It should be pretty much a dark red colour but certainly not black.

  • Registered Users Posts: 627 ✭✭✭blueshed

before that i had a btl of O Sheas irish ale from aldi, also from the

I'm shortly going to have a bottle of O'Hara's stout with my beef Bourguignon, so all will be revealed.

Don't discount Curim though. In the bottle it's bland and boring.
    On draft it's pretty tasty.
On Cask it really shines through though which is odd considering it's a wheat beer. I only had it on cask once but it was an eye opener.

had the O Haras on draught in L Mulligans and it was unbelivable.
so creamy and tastes even better than the btl.
not seen much of the IPA around.can get all the others.

Are you sure? I know the discontinued Traditional Irish Ale was by Carlow, but I thought O'Shea's was someone else?

Always find it funny how the same beer can taste so different in it's different states. Carlow's IPA for example is so much nicer in the bottle.

Had a couple of bottles of Shepherd Neame's double stout at the weekend and hated it. Also had a couple of bottles of Aldi O Shea's stout, which i really liked.

Good choice. Excellent take on an IPA. Caledonian Brewery has been living off this one for years and it never disappoints from a well cellared cask!

Having a White Rabbit Brewery Dark Ale from Healsville, Vic in Oz. Very tastey, great hop aroma bit more hop flavour would be perfect.

The Fullers London Porter is the business for for steak and ale pie. When it reduces the down the roasted and chocolate malt flavour are perfectly rich and delicious. Far better than anything Guinnes can offer.

John Martin's Pale Ale I don't know why I keep going back to this when I arrive in Belgium. It's ok but maybe too sweet of an after taste.

I love John Martin's. Look out for Bass and Whitbread: they're along similar lines.

Haven't seen them but will keep an eye out for then.
