Just had my first Ballast Point Victory at Sea Imperial Porter. I'm not sure whether it's one of the best beers ever or one of the worst. I'm leaning towards one of the best, but at 10% I'll just be having the one. Huge flavours, just huge.

If you can get your hands on the Ballast Point Sculpin it is definitely worth a taste.

I've had the Sculpin. One of the better American IPAs I've come across.

Thwaites Flying Shuttle, a lovely malty brown ale. Pours a great colour. Slightly sweet then malt taste and a little hoppy.

An earthy after taste I would say and a light carbonation too.

    Very drinkable.

Tonight I have lined up a Hofbrau Original, Spaten, a Cutthroat Porter and a Harvest Sun hoppy golden ale.

I have some interesting beers to drink tonight and over the weekend. Mostly American style IPA's.

I am also brewing a recreation of an old Barkley Perkins Milk Stout over the weekend.

Barkley Perkins Milk Stout sounds very interesting indeed. Good luck hope it all goes well.

A nice pale ale, dryish with a lovely Amarillo finish

Having a couple of Erdinger Urweisse. It smells gorgeous especially when you just pop the bottle, but taste wise it's only ok. Better than normal Erdinger but still missing something.

where are you getting the metalman? Is it only in the bull and castle?

I basically only post in here when I am drinking something I haven't tasted before. Tonight it's a bottle of Fullers Golden Pride. I saw it down in the Offie yesterday and I was surprised cos I'd never heard of it before while I'm a fan off all the other Fullers range. Very nice, a lot sweeter than I thought it would be. Notes of orange and caramel while the 8.5% alcohol content isn't too obvious.

    So far so good.

Chiswick Bitter, London Pride, ESB and Golden Pride are all different blends of the same wort. If you like one, chances are you'll like them all :)

I see, I see. Interesting. The only product of theirs I'm not crazy about is the IPA. I mean it's ok but there are so many IPA's out there that are much better so for Fullers high standards it isn't up to scratch.

That's why they have another one: Bengal Lancer. I really liked it.

I've never seen that in Ireland. Is it stocked here? If so, where?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 11,818 Mod ✭✭✭✭BeerNut

I've only seen it in Sainsbury's in England.

Redmond's are hopefully getting it in along with some Past Masters

Really looking forward to Past Masters. That's what I was looking for when I saw the Bengal Lancer :)

Any darkish ale would do nicely.

Having not had one for a couple of months, I went back to Odell St. Lupin Extra Pale Ale last night.
    Such a beautiful beer!
I've yet to taste anything from that company that I don't like!
