I could have swore the PA at matches (and by that i mean even in thurles) keeps naming his club as O'Loughlins

He only signed back in last few weeks (16th March) according to here: http://tipperary.gaa.ie/playertransfers.html

Here's a few match reports from the weekend (Got them with the Tipp GAA email). Some serious shocks around the County in my opinion.

Tipperary Co-Op Super Valu West SHC

    Clonoulty/Rossmore 1-16 Kickhams 1-16.

A draw was the eventual outcome of this first round Tipperary Co-Op Super Valu West Senior Hurling Championship game on a sultry Summer afternoon in Cashel last Sunday. Kickhams will relish this draw, and only for the profligacy and wayward shooting, from frees and play, of the Clonoulty/Rossmore outfit the result might have been completely different, their tally of nineteen wides tells its own story. That Timmy Hammersley left his shooting sights behind and still ended up with one goal and ten points will worry the Clonoulty/Rossmore backroom team.
Timmy had all their second half scores except two points from Thomas Butler and substitute Paddy Ryan. Indeed Clonoulty/Rossmore finished having three substitutes in their full forward line. The Clonoulty/Rossmore defense was solid with James Heffernan and John Devane commanding figures.
Kickhams who went down to this side almost exactly one year ago by three points will take many positives from this display. Kenneth Horgan who was on song from frees, cooly hit the leveller from a sixty five in added time. David Butler had a smashing goal after a fine build up.
Damien McGrath was back to his best at midfield. Paul O'Dwyer chipped in with a couple of points. Michael Heelan battled well at centre back and Brian Horgan covered acres, while Jason Loughman at full back was rarely beaten.

So the shadow boxing is over. If or when these sides meet again, it will be in a semi final and both sides will by then have to show considerable improvement. Also the concession of needless frees by both sides will have to be looked at. Before the game a minutes silence was observed in memory of Philip Kelly Cappawhite who had died tragically in a boating accident during the week. Our thanks to Cashel K.C who hosted this game at short notice. Just after the throw in Timmy Hammersley sent a free wide, Damien Mc Grath collected the puckout and pointed, he then set up Pakie for another point. Then Tom Butler found John Devane and he opened for Clonoulty/Rossmore, both players then were suppliers for Timmy Hammersley who pointed two from play. Pakie Farrell then soloed through the Clonoulty/Rossmore defense to level the sides, three points apiece.
Frees by Timmy Hammersley and Kenneth Horgan had the sides all square at the end of the first quarter.

Fiachra O'Keeffe and Alan Horgan then exchanged points as the sides were deadlocked. Clonoulty went two points ahead from a Timmy Hammersley free and a point by Thomas Butler, but Kickhams replied with points from Kenneth Horgan and David Butler to tie the sides again after twenty seven minutes. Then Kickhams struck for a goal, Patrick O'Brien collected on the right wing and made ground, he found Shane Morrissey and David Butler rifled Morrissey's cross to the Clonoulty/Rossmore net.
Then Timmy Hammersley and Patrick O'Brien exchanged points to leave the Kickhams ahead1-8 to 0-9 at the interval. Michael Coen and Liam Devane appeared for Clonoulty/Rossmore in the second half and Timmy Hammersley and Kenneth Horgan exchanged pointed frees. Five minutes into the half following a needless foul on Jason Forrestal John Ryan awarded a 20metre free to Clonoulty/Rossmore. Timmy Hammersley stood over the ball composed himself and lashed the sliotar to the net past a crowded Kickhams goal line. He then pointed a free to put Clonoulty/Rossmore ahead 1-11 to 1-9.

Ten minutes into the half Kickhams struck a purple spell and Paul O'Dwyer, Paddy O'Brien and Kenneth Horgan lofted over five unanswered points to put Kickhams back into the lead again. Thomas Butler replied with a point to leave Kickhams comfortably ahead 1-14 to 1-11 at the three quarter stage. Kenneth Horgan pointed a free after fifty minutes, and the Kickhams management will be worried that they were held scoreless for the next ten minutes, and only managed the equaliser in added time. Meanwhile Timmy Hammersley added on another two points, and then substitute Patrick Ryan had the sides tied with five minutes remaining. Timmy Hammersley again put his side ahead. Kickhams attacked looking for the equaliser but resolute Clonoulty/Rossmore defending kept them out until they conceded a sixty five which Kenneth Horgan converted to give his side the draw.

Clonoulty/Rossmore: Declan O'Dwyer; Joey O'Keeffe, James Heffernan, Kevin Horan, Anthony Kearney, John Devane (0-1), Paddy Heffernan; Sean O'Connor, John O'Connor; Tom Butler (Capt) (0-1), Thomas Butler (0-2), Paudie White; Fiachra O'Keeffe (0-1), Jason Forrestal, Timmy Hammersley

Tipperary Co-Op Super Valu West SHC

    Galtee/Sean Treacy's 1-12 Golden-Kilfeacle 1-12

It may not have been great hurling but this was a gripping match, especially in the second half. The new combination of Galtee Rovers and Sean Treacys seemed to have the game, in the Tipperary Co-Op Supervalu senior hurling championship, in their hands at the interval. They led by
1-7 to 0-4, were in command and seemed set to go on to victory in the second half. Then in the course of three minutes between the eighteenth and the twenty-first minutes Shane Stapleton changed the direction of the game. First of all it was a point, and points don't change much in the normal run of games, but three minutes later he had a goal. A sideline puck from about sixty yards by Michael Harding was delivered to the Combo goal. It was blocked out and Shane pulled first time and sent the ball to the back of the net. It changed the direction of the game and gave Golden-Kilfeacle the necessary shot of confidence to push on for the draw.

The first half was pedestrian enough. Galtee-Sean Treacy's were motoring very well. Their key score, the goal came from David Byron, who latched on to the ball about twenty yards out and soloed through to strike home in the nineteenth minute. It brought the Combo score to 1-5 as against three points for Golden-Kilfeacle, all from placed balls. During the remainder of the half Michael Harding, who was their main scorer added one point but Tony O'Brien added two more to leave the halftime score
1-7 to 0-4. Galtee/Sean Treacy's resumed strongly enough and had two points from Declan Hickey and Paudie Ryan in the opening two minutes.
Golden-Kilfeacle responded with two, a Handing free and a Jim Bob point from play. Pa Morrissey put the Combo back in the driving seat with a point from a free in the eighth minute.
The next twelve minutes of the game belonged to Golden. Harding had two points from frees and Damien Fogarty from play before Shane Stapleton had his 1-1 to bring Golden within a point of the Combo on a score of
    1-11 to 1-10.

There were still ten minutes to go. The respective supporters were shouting all kinds of support and exhortations from the sideline. The performances of the players were greeted with wild enthusiasm and gasps of disbelief. In the twenty-third minute Harding pointed Golden level from a free. The ball went up and down the field for six minutes without any effect. Then in the twenty-ninth minute Denis Stapleton hit a mighty point from centrefield to give the Combo a one-point advantage. The game went on for another four minutes. There were frenetic cries from the sideline, exhortations to put in the final extra effort, orders not to foul. There were many melees and a free from one such melee about thirty yards from the Combo goal, eventually decided what the result would be.
One of the Combo players drew a wild swipe and contacted with a Golden leg. The referee had no choice but a free and as the free was in the front of the Combo goals and Michael Harding was taking it the result could only be a point and the result ended at 1-12 each, about as fair as you could get.

Galtee/Treacys: Seamus Butler, Tom Hickey, Paul Shanahan, Andrew Morrissey, Mark O'Brien, David Byron (1-1), Declan Hickey (0-1), Joe Ryan, Pa Morrissey (0-2), Eamon Ryan, Pat Murnane, Kieran Bergin (0-1), Paudie Ryan (0-3), David Morrissey, Tony O'Brien (0-3). Subs: Denis Stapleton (0-1) for Seamus Moloney, Paudie Carey for David Morrissey, Liam Nolan for Joe Ryan.

Golden-Kilfeacle: David Downey, Paul Fogarty, Kevin McCarthy, Michael Stapleton, James Tierney, Patrick Ivors, Donncha Carr, Daithi Bargary Damien Fogarty (0-1), Jim Bob McCarthy (0-1), Michael Carr, Michael Harding (0-9), Aidan Fogarty, Shane Stapleton (1-1), James O'Connell.
Subs: Brendan Moloney for James O'Connell, James Hayes for James Tierney, Dermot Morrissey for Michael Stapleton.

    Referee: Richie Barry (Cappawhite)

    Mid Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship

    Moycarkey Borris 0-18 Drom - Inch 1-09

    By Cathal Ryan

Moycarkey Borris claimed a convincing six point victory over 2009 County Finalists Drom - Inch in the first match of a double header on Sunday evening in Holycross. It was a superb second half display from Moycarkey clinical forward Kieran Morris that unlocked the Drom rearguard scoring eight points in the second half with six frees and a point off both his right and left hand side to leave the All Ireland 7's champions in a commanding lead. Drom attempted to conjure a late explosive finish as they introduced Seamus Callanan who was not fit enough to start from the bench in the 47th minute in order to provide leadership to a struggling attack. But apart from a blistering 21 yard free that leathered to the roof of the net with five minutes to go but the injured star and his fellow forwards failed to make an impression on the Moycarkey rear guard.

Moycarkey will be delighted with this victory to begin the earlier than usual Championship season and will look to take all the positives from this display and build for their next outing in the Championship and continue their improvement since returning to senior status in 2008.
Drom - Inch however will be disappointed with their display that saw them shoot 15 wides over the course of the game. But good displays from some younger players will provide encouragement that they can feature again at the business end of the Championship.

The match started with some high tempo exchanges with both sides flying into the early challenges and it was Drom corner forward David Butler who scored first with a nice step onto his left hand side and applied a clinical finish from 35 yards. Moycarkey responded just two minutes later through a Morris free and then took the lead in the fifth minute when Robert Doran exchanged hand passes with Pat Molloy before driving straight over the bar at the road end of the ground. With the action still very condensed and tight John Kennedy for Drom and David Sheppard the Moycarkey captain worked very hard to secure an extra point for their respective teams ten minutes into the contest. But as the half wore on Moycarkey became more dominant and a superb second point from Sheppard from all 60 yards underneath the stand rallied his team mates.
Despite another well taken score from David Butler points from Anthony Healy, Pa Carey and Ciaran Clohessey pushed the gap between the sides to four. However Drom shaped to stem the flow before the break and their talented young midfielder David Collins converted two frees to narrow the gap at the break leaving the score 0-8 to 0-6 in favour of Moycarkey.

David Butler was the most potent forward on show for the Ragg and again he opened the scoring in the second half before Morris converted a free and then swept a point over off his left hand side after receiving a David Sheppard pass. Introduced late in the first half as a sub young Pat Lupton fired a brilliant score from over 60 yards in the 36th minute to show a glimpse of the his talent but this was to be the last time Drom would register for 19 minutes. In this period of time Morris claimed five points one from play off his right hand side. Pa Carey and Ciaran Clohessey also converted to leave Moycarkey out of reach for Drom despite the late flurry of Callanan's goal and a late David Butler point.

    Teams:
Moycarkey Borris: John Kelly; Phil Kelly, Paul Dempsey, Eamon Flanagan; Rory Ryan, Kevin Moran, David Morris; Pa Carey(0-2), Ger Carey; Robert Doran(0-1), David Sheppard(0-2), Pat Molloy; Kieran Morris(0-10,8F), Ciaran Clohessey(0-2), Anthony Healy(0-1). Subs: Willie Dempsey for R.
    Doran (39),

Drom - Inch: Damien Young; Paul Stapleton, Edward Costello, Michael Costello; Johnny Ryan, Eamon Buckley, Shane Delaney; Eric Woodlock, David Collins(0-3,3F); Declan Ryan, John Lillis, John Kennedy(0-1); David Butler(0-4), Michael Everard, Seamus Butler. Subs: Pat Lupton
(0-1) for J. Lillis (28), John Kennedy for M. Everard (H/T), Michael Butler for S. Butler (40), Seamus Callanan (1-0) for D. Collins (47), James Ryan for M. Costello (56).

Did any of ye go to any of the club matches over the weekend?

How did the county lads go (including the lads dropped last week)?

I was just at the one down South between Carrick Swans and Killenaule is all.
Festy wasn't great, although he's just back from injury. Bubbles O Dwyer (He's on training panel I think) hurled very well in patches scoring 5 points from play I think (out of 11). Gerry Kennedy, former county keeper/sub keeper was corner forward and got a one good point (where the Swan backline should have took him out with a shoulder buy instead backed off). Danny O'Hanlon (former Tipp senior panelist) hurled very well for Swans I must say. Declan Fanning, playing centre back had a bit of a nightmare, he just wasn't able to handle Kieran Reade all night, especially in the first half.

I couldn't make it to The Mullinahone V Ballybacon match last night at all unfortunately.

It's unfortunate to see Paul breaking his leg, he's been really unlucky on the injury front over the years, and just as he was coming into contention for a starting place on the County team.

Apparently Gearoid Ryan has broken a finger in a club match at the weekend too. Not a good weekend for the Tipp forward line.

Club Matches this weekend for any of ye that are interested (Divisional Boards have a lot to answer for, playing club matches the same day/weekend Tipp are playing League!!!):

    Down South
    SATURDAY APRIL 17TH

    SENIOR HURLING Rd 1
Note change of time - BALLINGARRY V CARRICK DAVINS IN KILSHEELAN @ 6.00PM

Davin's first Senior match in a decade. Rumour's going around that Donal Shelly has indeed signed back to Ballingary. This will be an extremely close game, and the outcome I believe will depend on how well Ballingary cope with the speed of the Davins forward line. Davin's have a very small panel this year so could struggle later on in the year if a few injuries are picked up along the way. If I had to choose, I'd predict Davins to win by the minimum. Ballingary seem to be in a period of transition this year.

    SUNDAY APRIL 18TH

    SENIOR HURLING
SUNDAY APRIL 18TH CARRICK SWANS V BALLYBACON-GRANGE IN MONROE @ 6.45PM (I'm not 100% certain this is in Monroe - could very well be Fethard).

I'd go with Swans here. They drew with Killenaule last week while Ballybacon suffered a heavy enough defeat at the hands of Mullinahone. However, Ballybacon can never be underestimated as they always have at least one good result per year. They've made the South Semi's in both of last 2 years.

West Tipp All SUNDAY APRIL 18TH

Tipperary Co-Op Super Valu West SHC.
Note change of time and venue - In Lattin @ 2.00, Cashel v Galtee /Treacys

The Combo drew last weekend when I was expecting them to beat Golden. I've seen Cashel play this year in a challenge game, and although probably not the most skillful team in the county, they do have a lot of heart. They also won their 1st match at this level in quite a few years last week so for that reason, I'd predict them to continue that run and make it 2 wins for the year (which will probably be their last this year).

Note change of time and venue - In Dundrum @ 5.30, Golden/Kilfeacle v Cappawhite.
Cappa here for me. Golden are struggling this year, not helped by the fact that Jim Bob seems to be carrying an injury (or at least was in the last game anyway).

    In Dundrum @7.00, Clonoulty/Rossmore v Éire Óg.Ref: P.Russell.

I don't know if Hammersly is going to be playing or not due to him been in Tullamore with the Tipp panel. If he is, I'd go for clonoulty, who had a poor result last week drawing with Kickhams (who I mentioned before are very unpredictable, either great or pure ****e) so will want to get back to winning ways. Altho, they may have their eyes on coming good later on in the year as Dan Breen is surely their ultimate aim this year, and not the West Cup as they now have done 3 or 4 in a row.

    ________________________________________________________________

I don't think there is any games in the Mid or the North this weekend (but I'm open to correction on that)

I watched the U21's tonight Tippspur, bloody infuriating it was. They really underperformed, wasted some possession and score chances. Kerry mush be sickened watching them. Donegal only had 1 man too. An All Ireland gone a-begging.

First half was tight and i gave Tipperary a great chance. McDonald's sending off i thought was harsh. 2nd half was a disaster. this handpassing game wont work against the northern teams esp when you've some players who wont look up before passing. So many passes went astray it was cruel. Starting to wonder is the so called football revolution a false dawn based on that performance and games i've seen them huff and puff in, in the league. Some of them are devoid the basics of the game. the free taking was abysmal.

Davins V Ballingary was abandoned after 15 minutes of the 2nd half. Davins had 2 players sent off, 1 straight red, 1 was 2 yellows. Ballingary will get the points I reckon, Davins will know if their faith Thursday night I'd say at Couth Board meeting.

Ref got assaulted, I won't make any further comment on the subject but it's probably in the national press today as it was mentioned on the Sunday Game last night. I'd like to wish a speedy recovery to Willie Barrett.

Here's the story in the national media: http://www.independent.ie/sport/hurling/probe-after-tipp-ref-attacked-with-hurl-2142980.html --> Why has Jackie Cahill brought the Swan club into it? Our club had nothing to do with what happened Saturday night, and the real circumstances of that match last October are not known by him, or a lot of people in the county/country. Typical ****e journalism out of him. (In saying that I'm not condoning what happened back then either)

In the west Cappa beat Golden 1-10 to 10 points.

    Clonoulty/Rossmore 1-18 Éire Óg 0-8.

Cashel v Combo match called off due to a bereavement in Cahsel I think.

I got 3 out of 4, not bad at all :-)

last game before the championship. that match wouldnt give a fella any great confidence.

Considering the team we fielded I'm not overly concerned. There a still a few question marks over whether or not we're any better then last year though. We'll need to be as Galway and Cork have certainly improved.

Cant wait for the championship this year as there are now realistically 3 teams that can lose an All Ireland to Kilkenny !

The bench is worrying Tom no doubt about that but i think we'll be ok come championship. More about inexperience then bad hurlers. We have Festy back now. Eoin, Larry, The Mahers; Shane and Brendan, and Fanning will be back the next day.

On a plus side Mikey Heffernan could be our find of the year. he was a ball of class yesterday.Darragh Egan had a mixed game. Class in patches but lacklustre in others.

I have a feeling this will be the most competitive All-Ireland in years - Kilkenny are still ahead, but Tipp, Galway, Cork and Waterford are only just behind imo.

Here the video of the incident.

What type of fcuking moran does that, was he on the Davins bench/sideline, hes the only one with a hurley and seems to be wearing a tracksuit and bottom. What ever about personal accounts he's really going to get nailed over this video.

Came from behind. Proper hard man:rolleyes: A cowardly piece of pond life to do that.
I'm not going to go down that route of generalising Carrick for the incident like Jackie Cahill did because there is a lot of good decent people from the town that don't deserve to be tarred with the same brush as that low life!

He wasn't a Davin club member, just a (so called)supporter, it was a disgraceful and cowardly thing to do I hope he gets nailed for it.

I would be fairly confident that the Gardai will prosecute on the basis of the witness statements and the referees report. This video will hardly be used! Of course a prosecution depends on Willie B pressing charges. If he decides not to persue it this guy will get off. I read it was alcohol related whether thats true now I don't know. Nasty thing to see at any time of the day never mind at a hurling match. Lets just hope this dope is made an example of.
