The way I'd describe that match is ...."big in japan".

    ah bah humbug mate.

this is a fantasy draw. at the end, we'll see the builds people have, and we can judge the PPVs and who wants to see what. I might not even put them together.

Steamboat is a legitimate draw in America, as well as Japan.

Dynamite will be trickier to sell on a worldwide scale, but he can be built.

i want a roster full of people I enjoy watching and performing.

    kudos on your picks, but...

Flair/Savage? sure we've already seen that on the biggest stage of them all. nothing new there ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 685 ✭✭✭Cactus Colm

Ah yeah ... only a bit of good natured slagging of course!

Steamboat was my first choice for round 2 last year, but that fell through and I had to go with another person, who had all the potential in the world, but never quite made it to the Dragon's level.

With Flair and Savage at their repective peaks, I have two men that could put on 5 star matches and sell out arenas anywhere in the world.

i know that only too well.

i'd personally resist putting them together, unless you come up with a new scenario for them.

plus, i much prefer Savage the heel. and i can't see you making Flair babyface.

but that's just a personal preference, and it's not my roster!

as impressive as his start is, with two bona-fide, solid main-eventers, just remember, a big part of this is how the booker uses the talent.

    *heaps pressure on*

Yeah ... I've been thinking about that. It'll all depend on who I get in the third round. The chap I have in mind is pretty much heel through and through, so I may go Savage face.

You're absolutely right, and there's plenty more chances for me to water down my roster too. I think the biggest mistake I made last year was to go for big names in later rounds, instead of talented workers, and by the time I realised my mistake I had for them to do.

Play nice? Screw that! i'm gonna be trying my best to undermine everyone else's roster from here on out!

of course people maybe thinking of a particular style of roster.

Fairly sure my pick is above board as regarding the tag team rules, they tagged together for well over 3 months and won titles and neither held any of the world championships listed.

But if not allowed let me know and I'll change it.

    If it is :D:pac:

Pingi excellent pick there girl, how in the name of good did you think of that one, by the way the picture of scott hall is hilarious looks like a 70s porn star!

Up until this post I had thought that Pingi had picked Curt Hennig and a different moustachioed wrestler.

When there was one place left in this years draft I considered taking it but I just couldn't dedicate the time to it. Diesel Queen ended up taking that spot, so I'm just playing along at home and seeing what picks I would make if I were in his shoes. The guy I would have picked in the 1st round (14th overall) is still available, and my top choice for the 2nd round was stll available when DQ picked earlier.

That's a very shrewd pick by Pingi. Some very good picks made so far.

Explain that 1 to me, particularly the part of being a draw in America.

I'm open to be correction but as great as he was in the ring, even at the peak of his career with his late 1980's matches with Flair, they were to said to have not drawn as I recall.

    i must admit, i don't have figures.

but did that feud in particular not make the promotion lots of money?

Steamboat was never a mega-draw, but he and Flair made plenty of money as far as I'm aware.

like yourself, i'm open to correction though.

Well if you look at the matches, you can see sections of empty seats. Plus straight after Steamboat lost to Flair in their last match, Flair immediately turned baby face feuding against Terry Funk.

Obviously we all want to big up our picks and the word "draw" is going to be a fairly regularly used term but would Rick Steamboat as great a wrestler as he was be a top 50 wrestling draw in all of the history of wrestling? I don't think so.

And that's not to say you didn't make a good pick. You got 1 of the best wrestlers anyone could ever choose in my opinion.

I think Vince is right, that programme wasn't a mega draw and even if it was it's a bit rich to subscribe that to Steamboat. Do think he was a good pick though just can;t understand why you didn't take youngblood as well

    you are right.

but by those criteria of empty seats, etc, realistically, nobody bar about 10 people could really call their picks a big 'draw' so.

i was more coming from the 'making money' angle.

Hogan, Austin, Rock, Flair, HHH, (arguable seen as he was around during the Austin/Rock era), HBK arguable enough, plus a couple of pre-70s wrestlers I don't want to mention, by your criteria.

i'm not criticising your criteria, just trying to justify my use of the term 'draw'.

'draw' may have to turn into a term we don't use!

Steamboat was the NWA champion. Could he have still picked Youngblood?
