It looks gorgeous, astonished at how not dated it is.
The gameplay has, apparently, been tweaked to suit the 3DS, whatever that means.
Also, you can decline the much lauded gyroscope feature which is great because while it's functional you lose the 3D effect everytime you want to steer your craft, which is all the time!
Simply using the Circle pad instead makes it far more, well, traditional and fun.

It would have been nice to have had the option to play the N64 version, maybe it's in there somewhere.
The Snes version as an unlockable, a 3D unlockable, would have been way too much to expect from Ninty, but some small part of me hoped...

Followed SG1 since it was on at 1 on the morning on Network 2, very enioyable indeed.
Stargate Atlantis was more of the same but with whole storylines recycled as well as character types.

After a while I just couldn't watch Atlantis anymore, watched SG1 reruns instead.

SG Universe was some superior tv but sadly the vacuous, shallow losers who have an internet connection abandoned the show because there was no colouring in and big words and that was the end of the franchise.
There is talk of a sequel to the original movie, not sure if the tv show will even feature.
nah ..the whole point of the SG franchises was that they were great cheesey fun .SG:A wasnt as good a show but it had carved out its own niche , but was basically canned early so that Universe could go ahead.
(thats one way to piss off the fans right there , scap one show so a different style one can take its place)

SG:U was a drab grey clone of BSG . supposed to be gritty and provoking it was just boring , zero fun and not a patch on Battlestar who took similar themes and did them a hundred times better.

    Cheers,
I've always liked shumps(ever since I bought my first megadrive with Gynoug) I just never concentrated on them.My arcade Cabs have changed that.

To be honest I prefer the old school ones with thumping soundtracks and high tech weaponry...the likes of trouble witches kinda puts me off as they are to cute and flowery...on the other hand espgaluda kicks ass.Raiden, Gigawing and anything I've played by raizing/Psikyo are what float my boat.

Mate, if you like old school shmup action and want a decent Xbox 360 shooter, Mushihimesama Futari 1.5 is, in my opinion, is one of the best examples of the genre in recent years. I've been banging on about it on here for the last fortnight! Words cannot describe its perfection in every way. It is literally a 10/10 game. Plus, you can get it brand new for about €40 on the Xbox 360 Platinum range in Japan. I would highly recommend it. It looks amazing, has loads of game modes, controls very well and is a joy to play from start to finish and over and over and over again.

In my view, Sega Rally on Saturn is one of the best racing games ever made - it still plays amazingly well to this day.

I'd recommend treating yourself to a copy of the original (and best) Daytona USA. This game gets a lot of stick for what was a dodgy arcade cconversion, owing to the rush job to get it out in the Saturn's launch window, but its still a brilliant racing game with easily the best handling model in the series, plus the music and tracks are great. Its Saturn follow-up / remake, Circuit Edition, is ****ing rubbish as the handling is brutal

The Dreamcast remake is very good, plays and looks fantastic..... but it ain't got that incredible handling found in the original.....

good man I'll give that a go.
I also agree with Daytona on the Saturn..class handling with some dodgey clipping issues that don't take away from one of the best arcade driving games ever.
I say one of the best because the Saturn port of Sega Rally takes it for me.Perfection

    Well, you're almost right.
SG:A was canned because it was pants.
And SG:U was excellent, combining much of the lessons of how you can make a sci-fi show without having to reshoot SG:1 scripts...

Oh wait, you're not right at all!!! ;)

But when SG:1 got it right, which was for much of the time, wow, did it get it right, the ep with the gate opening within the event horizon of a black hole was worthy of a movie, the opening sequence, the gravitational effect and FX for that matter were superb, the whole thing (no pun intended) was amazing.

So too was the ep where it all goes Groundhog day for T'ealc and McGuyver, brilliant and funny stuff.

I love SG:1 its the best out of the three, i only recently re-watched it and after the 2-3rd season it really comes into its own, the comic timing in some of the scenes is brilliant. SGU was only starting to get good when they cancelled it, i thought it was brutal the first season.

right , so we're agreed SG:1 was 'teh awesome'
that episode was great , that and the 200th one (where they ripped the piss out of themselves , star trek , and since 2 of the main cast had previously starred in it farscape , amontst other shows).

Sega Rally on the Saturn is a game I will play for the rest of my life. That handling, those race tracks, that music... perfect!

I remember playing it and playing it until I was almost falling asleep one time - I just kept going around and around the forest track in time trial. It was very surreal, playing it whilst half asleep. I guess its just one of them games you can't put down for ages when you put it on.... just one more lap!! lol

Picked this up yesterday. It's retro, right? :pac:

    starfox1.jpg

The reason I'm taking photos is because of this. First bit of creativity I've really noticed in game packaging for a while. It reminds me of the cool type of artwork you'd see on a vinyl album sleeve.

    Starfox3.jpg

Picked this up on a whim in Gamestop last week. Think I remember Retro saying it was meant to be good.

The sly games are pretty good. Must pick up the PS3 rerelease of the first 3.

Also what the hell is that slut Crystal doing in Starfox 3D!

Ordered a copy of Harmful Park last night.
    Then I woke up.

I did get a copy of Munch's Odyssey in CeX for 2.50 to complete the very small and very easy to complete Oddworld collection. They had a copy of Metal Slug 3 for the PS2 on the shelf for the same price, but they couldn't find the disc. Alas!

Ah, the joy of CeX, but without the pictures of a naked hairy man and a naked and also quite hairy woman...

It's a horrible store, but it's worth popping in (innuendo partially intended) to find the occasional bargain the masses are too distracted by their licensed games to notice!

At the market this morning, not much there aside from a first gen 1002 ps1, some xbox games and, well, that was it. I did, however, get a Grandstand Astrowars for €2 but it isn't working so have to bit of repairing there, now where's my soldering iron?

Whats it doing when you turn it on? I have one here myself for parts thats not working, might be able to coble a working one together from the two of them. though id like to hang onto the shell off this one in case i break my working one. My broken one makes a noise for about 2 seconds when you turn it on then nothing. You welcome to the insides of mine if you need it to get yours going.

Now now, I'm not a complete muppet but I do know the merits of an early ps1 model when it comes to running backups.

Dont know if anyone in dublin is interested but i saw a copy of Chrono Trigger DS in Game in the Ilac at about 2pm, prob gone now but just thought someone might want to know. Think it was €30 used but looked perfect.

On further investigation the Grandstand Astrowars seems to working ok but some previous owning loolah actually soldered the mains adaptor into the body of the machine!
Everytime I powee it up, if the cable isn't "just so" then it flicks off again.
When it does work it knocks itself off when the fire butron is pressed, more features down to the wonky solder job inside!
I'm going to get home this evening and undo the madness.
I will at the very least try it out with batteries, I reckon thay the psu, though original, is doomed as the offending previous owner cut away both the male and female connectors, digging into the device itself and chopping off the tip of the ac adaptor!
So a battery only machine from now on, I can live with that!

Picked up a few new things today. Mostly NGP games, but I did get a nice Japanese copy of Darius 2.

    newgames.jpg

NGP collection so far. Only 9 games, one of which is Japanese so it doesn't really count! Also have an unboxed Faselei! coming (thanks Retr0!)

    NeoGeoPocket.jpg

Also got this Pioneer graphic equalizer from the early 80s to go with my Pioneer amp. Kinda games related, at all my games sound will be going through it :D You can't really see properly, but all the bands have a nice little red LED on them. Looks lovely with the lights turned off.

Very nice haul of NGP there o1s1n. Though my favourite out the pile has to be Darius II. Awesome game from an awesome series. I never really realized how many Mega Drive shooting games there actually are, definitely a console to look at in the future I think.

You're right by the way, those NGP snap cases are lovely. Oddly reminds me I need to source some MVS shockboxes but not from the USA as the postage is ridiculous. Any ideas?

    Maybe someone on Arcade Otaku?
I'm finding it a very good place to get all sorts from.

    Cheers! :)

The Megadrive is up there with the Saturn as the best console for shooters in my opinion. There are buckets of them.

That Darius 2 I got really is minty. The booklet and registration card look like they just rolled off the factory press. I usually only collect PAL MD games..the exception being ones like that which were Jap only.

Unfortunately I've been trying to find a solution for cheaper shock boxes for years but never really came across anything. Sometimes you'll get the odd person listing some on ebay.co.uk or even ebay.fr..but other than that it'll have to come from that Bigbear guy over in the states. So postage will cost a bomb :(
