That is one beautiful amp, I used to gaze longingly at such tech back in the day, my time came 5 years later in the early 90's when employment meant I could spend my free cash in Richer Sounds and the like.
Sadly, by then, HiFi separates went all black, aside from some chrome trim...
I had some Pioneer stuff as well, twin cd changers, turn table, all midi sized goodness.
Still have the cd and tape deck off of my last one....
Must pick up a cheap NAD receiver amp somewhere, I have a few spare speakers about.
Ipods, sure they brought your entire music collection together, and all your mates' music too, but we did lose all the enjoyment of librarys of cds and vinyl and the equipment to play them on, now you just use a fecking dock, stuff your granny can understand.
Me, I miss the mystery and awe inspiring nature of the high end music system.... :(

I absolutely love vintage chrome hifi separates! Nothing nicer than seeing the sun shining in and bouncing off them. Or the reflections you get from the glow of the LEDs and the VU meters. They really did lose something when they went black.

Even the action on the buttons and knobs is like nothing you get now. They feel like they're built to last.

Great thing about classic amps and receivers is they use RCA cables. You can just get a 3.5mm to RCA cable and hook up any existing technology to one. I have my laptop connected to that setup in the picture. Sound out of it is lovely :)

An even greater thing about them actually is the price! That SX-550 amp cost about €500 back in the day. Was mine on ebay for a mere €50 including postage. The graphic equalizer was only €40 delivered from France. Bargain.

Nice, I really miss my own AV amp I bought in Richer Sounds back when they were on the quays, I got in 94 and had my 3DO piped through it!
I was probably the owner of one of the only surround gaming rigs in the city!
Since then though surround has mattered less and less rather than more as audio has gotten better, strange that...
My Grandstand works great on batteries by the way! Awesome!

I got all my AV stuff from Richer Sounds in Belfast. They were really good, took my order from the Cayman Islands before I moved to Ireland and delivered the lot the day we moved in as promised.

I'll probably keep buying AV gear from them because the service is excellent and the prices are usually competitive, if not you can usually wrangle a deal along the way. :)

Grabbed the last scrapings of decent PS2 games in Gamestop today. Got Drakengard 2, Megaman x7 and Swords of destiny all for €12.

Also got Driver SF and quite enjoying it so far! First brand new game I've bought in ages, the last being the Dreamcast collection.

Decent and those games do not go together. Not sure about Swords of Destiny but Megaman X7 is legendary for how awful it is and Drakengard 2 if anything like the first game is pish :(

These arrived today (VAT and duty exempt :D):

A Namco NegCon controller [PS1, NTSC-J, Loose], Metal Slug Complete [PS2, NTSC-J, No Instructions] and Bomber Man: B-Daman [Super Famicom, NTSC-J, Loose]

    PKMPO.jpg

I always wanted a NegCon controller, first time I held one today and very odd they are too!

Just got a chewing out from my mam about finding a job. In was exasperated by the fact that a few games arrived as well. Says she'll throw out anymore games that arrive. I hope it's an empty threat because onlt half my stuff arrived.

Anyway I got Gals Fighters and Neo Turf Masters for the NGP, unboxed.

Also got the US version of Maken X on the Dreamcast. Was annoyed to find that all the 'backup' versions of this game have cut out all the music and only left in one music track so had to get the real version. It's an absolute crime because Shogi Meguro, who also did the Persona and SMT soundtrakcs, produced an amazing soundtrack for this game.

Edit: Also it turned up sealed and brand new. Time to get some new dreamcast game smell!

Tell her to stop opening your mail!

Also, I think you should go for this job.

Yup, I've always maintained the NegCons are one cool controller, some of the best analogue control without a wheel, lovely.
And the analoge buttons and an analogue shoulder button, the other one feels the same but is in fact digital.

Try playing something like Need For Speed 3 with it, it's brilliant.

And for something great to play on said PS, make sure you have Rollcage 2, probably the only racing game, on the PS, that out does Wipeout 2097, pure brilliance and great weapons as well.

I remember trying to use one of those NegCon controllers when they came out (wasnt it Rage Racer they were released around the same time as originally? Or was it RR Type 4?)
    Anyway, many crashes occured :pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,328 ✭✭✭Pyongyang

It's a very odd controller. Is it supposed to help with Ridge Racer cornering? Looking forward to using it anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,054 ✭✭✭✭Professey Chin

I think that was the point of it. I remember it being heavily advertised as a perfect partner for one of them.
If it helps or not is a matter of opinion :pac: (Although I sucked at RR anyway)

I have the Gameboy Advance SP with the awesome screen, its the AGS 101 and all kinds of great. Not only does it sport the same kind of screen you got later in the Gameboy Micro and DS lite but the device let's you play the entire back catalogue of gameboy games on this beautiful display.
It cost me about 55 euro from a US ebay seller including postage.
Well worth the money, a far better machine than the AGS 001 it briefly replaced, and arguably more desirable than the Micro.
