We were talking about the Saturn specifically, which I don't backup on as the originals are just too lovely.

Other consoles are a completely different matter :p

Not retro by any means but my new PC case arrived this morning and its a bit of a beast. I'm building up a new main PC for myself and the rest of the parts are arriving tomorrow I think.

When this is done I'll be finishing the Hyperspin PC off and sticking it in the candy (see, a little bit retro related :D)

Its a Thermaltake Level 10 GT case by the way.

Haha, I needed a big case for the performance parts going into it(lots of cooling required). But I also wanted something a little garish and maybe even a bit tacky/gamer looking.

It's my design antidote to all the Apple stuff I got lately :D

    Skynet it is so!

Awesome specs, the video memory alone is gonna be a thing of beauty! The Wii U won't be giving it a run for its money anyway :D

Just make sure you're not in Shankill when that thing becomes self aware!

Awesome specs indeed. The only solid state drive I've played around with is the one in my Amiga, which I found really impressive. I can only imagine the speeds modern ones of that size can do.

Yeah, solid states are dropping in price a lot these days so are a bit more accessible.
Fine for a boot and application drive but the storage is still lacking on them.

I wont be modding it like this anyway (it's a photoshop job of some guys project):

Already looking at getting a hard disk in the a600
(nabbed a pcmcia/CF card adaptor as well so hopefully get that soon)
Power on the A600 and check the kickstart revision which it will display number on the screen,if its below 37.300,then you need to get new chips as it wont see the HD.

    vesalia stocks them- http://www.vesalia.de/e_kickstart.htm

3.1 chips allows it to see and use CD rom drives.

    ah cool
it's 37.350 (based on the boot screen and workbench) which supports pcmcia/hdd stuff as far as I know (its a bit mad they released machines with ports that the bios wouldnt actually support isnt it?!?)

Its already premodded with a dual Kickstart switch between 1.30/2.05 by the way .
I nabbed that adaptor from a crowd called amigakit who seem to be decent price wise.I've a old 6 gb 2.5 hdd thats going in there .Had to get a nice long cable to actually allow it to fit in properly though.I actually have a IDE to CF adapter spare but oddly enough its a 3.5 one , so probably isnt worth my while trying to convert it.

Cost reasons, there was A600's available with HD's built in*had A600hd written on the badge*
    http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showhardware.cgi?HARDID=11

if the HD doesn't match up the into the HD cradle screwholes, use sticky tape and wrap around it tightly, does the job :).

Maybe best to use A500 psu as the A600 is quiet weak for HD/other add ons,or use pc psu build your own PSU
    http://www.ianstedman.co.uk/Amiga/amiga_hacks/Amiga_Power_supplies/body_amiga_power_supplies.html#PC_PSU_Replacements

or find an A500 psu on ebay, amigakit are bit expensive.

Today's items (also my Pandora battery arrived, bit redundant now though as I've sorted my PSP for CFW without using it. Still, handy to have though).

    1. Super Bomber Man 2 [Super Famicom, NTSC-J, CIB]
    ujJW5.jpg

    2. Densha De Go!, Densha De Go! 2, Densha De Go! 7 [PlayStation, NTSC-J, CIB, SC-OCD]
    EiMb6.jpg

    3. Namco Museum Volume 2 [PlayStation, NTSC-J, CIB, SC-OCD, RC-OCD]
    G6bmq.jpg

Why did I buy Densha De Go you may ask? Simple, it came in a lot of 4 games that included Namco Museum Volume 2. The best part of the deal? The whole lot of games cost me 1p (yes, ONE PENCE) plus shipping which was super cheap anyway.

I'm just one title away now from completing my Namco Museum Chronicle Box set! I've even managed (thanks to Ciderman!) to get a CIB, RC-OCD (and even original receipt-OCD!) Namco Museum Volume Controller!

All I'm missing now is the Bento Box Volume 2 (though I have that reserved for a future pickup) and Namco Museum Volume 1, plus I need a spine card and reg card for Volume 3, but I'm nearly there, it's been a long journey and lots of scouring high and low for the best deals and best condition! :D

Hey, that's what we're here for!
Glad I could help with the controller, those things are like hens teeth normally.
How much was it by the way?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,753 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

    Gods damn it!
    I want Namco Museum now!

Gonna have to decide which format...
    Jap or Pal

Then if I collect bit by bit :(
    Or all at once :)

I see a Jap collection, all 6 games for 85 including postage, so for the price of 2 3DS games I can have some history...

Also I can supplement this with a purchase of the display box and one of the nifty little Namco Volume Controllers....

Hmm, this might have to wait til Christmas, or a seriously good weekend at the markets!

Cheers for that, I thought I'd never find that controller! There is no official memory card for the box as far as I know so I'm searching for a white memory card to go in the slot.

I saw the set you are looking at. Note that that set is a mix of first print and Best editions. Depends how you want to collect it though, it's a nice set if you don't mind the mix of versions and lack of full SC-OCD and RC-OCD. Plus you might want the Chronicle Box at a later date which means you'll likely end up buying Encore again.

The controller was around €20 which was a total bargain really, probably a mis-price I think. I have a Neg-Con on the way too for the Namco Museum and Ridge Racer games, will sit nicely with my Namco arcade stick and volume controller. :)

Maybe you might like to go for the longer journey and collect the games piece by piece? I'm enjoying that method a lot more, heck I got 3 Densha De Go! Games along the way that I'd never have gotten otherwise. I started with Encore and went from there. Almost have a full PAL set too but I've stalled on it for now until the NTSC-J set is complete.

Up to you how you go with it but they are great titles to collect and great value for money I think. Enjoy it whatever method you choose. :)

I have a couple of NeGcons, they are the business, excellent steering controller and brilliant on Ridge Racer Revolution and even Wipeout.
The Jogcon is awful though, not only broken by design but, apparently, designed to break your hands and fingers too, a very uncomfortable controller to use and, thankfully, only a precious few games use it, primarily RRtype4, my least favourite Ridge Racer game.
A PocketStation is a nice little buy, may get one myself at some point, a few NTSC/J games use it but only one Pal game, the aforementioned RRtype4, a feature left in despite the launch of the PocketStation in Europe getting cancelled.

Couple of items I got recently (um there's some retro relevance in there somewhere :)).

MS7 DS, nice poster came with it:

    ms7o.jpg

    Shmups and a classic controller:

    cavewii.jpg

Adapter to hook up RGB consoles to VGA. Really just got this as a test to see what machines I could hook up to the cab monitor. SCART in and VGA + stereo out.

    scarttobnc.jpg

Most importantly, finally got a couple of marquee bulbs and some cable tidy clip things for inside the cab, all the way from rs in Japan (ignore the additional junk in pic). Chuffed about these more than the rest. :pac:

LOL! You and your wibbles and sniff sniffs. :D

I got it from a nice chap based in the USA, arrived in a few days which I thought was impressive. Was a time I'd be waiting a couple of weeks getting stuff from there. Gave it a lash for a few mins to make sure it was working, plays really well so happy with that.
