M17. Apologies if you have answered this before (or many times before). In your view what is the earliest date you expect this project (or part of it) to open. Some parts appear to be very advanced.

3 days out for the politicians to bask in the awesome of being associated with the project.
One for Enda, One for Shane Ross (independents) and one for Fianna Fail (for not bringing the whole thing crumbling down).
It's a small miracle they don't do openings for every metre.

    http://galwaybayfm.ie/county-council-cannot-afford-plans-downgrade-county-roads/

This is ridiculous. It's happened everywhere else in the country because it should do.

Sections of the N17 remaining a national route after this make zero sense.

Are we going to have a national route running through the streets of Tuam? Nowhere else does this happen.

Forgive my ignorance but what costs are associated with downgrading a national road to regional status?

Responsibility for maintaining it passes from the TII to the local council. In this case the route length to be transferred is significant so a commensurate increase in GCC's budget is needed.

It becomes the responsibility of the county council instead of TII (who now have the motorway to maintain instead).

Galway County Council, if this was done correctly would now have to take care of N17 north of Tuam to where it meets the N6 in Galway, the N18 from Gort to the junction in Claregalway, the N63 from M17 J2 to Loughgeorge and the N66 (which it seems will be detrunked in its entirity).

Instead it looks like the old N18 from Kilcolgan to Galway will become the N67 (which I don't disagree with - because it has no direct access to the M18), and the current N17 will become a national secondary (pointless nonsense).

Reduced traffic - especially HGVs - will mean less maintenance.

The road no longer needs to be maintained to provide 100km/h running either - N17 should be 80km/h after this upgrade is complete.

The 80km/h restrictions have been extended on the M6 eastbound. They now start 2km after J19. Passing through last night all the hard shoulder cones had been moved closer to J19 and the hard shoulder was open again right under the new flyovers.
This have anything to do with this proposed Services stop?

Is it to stay east of the L3104 and railway overbridge as there's a cluster of houses at the junction of the L3104/R348 There's also a ringfort west of the L3104
