Shouldn't even be an N83 in the first place let alone chatter of extending it!

No,they have another layer of tarmac to go on

I passed this yesterday, it looks very low.

I'm sure it will be fine but while driving past I was trying to work out if an excavator on a low loader could get under it.....

It looks very low indeed and wait until you have a few inches of tarmac.

    the article says ....
"However, further sections of the N17 and N18 will remain as national routes following an appeal against a TII plan to downgrade all roads to regional status."

    whats all that about ?

    whats all that about ?

Standard thing to do would be downgrade the N17 and N18 to regional roads when the motorway opens, but then Galway county council would have to maintain them, and they say they don't have the money. If they stay as National routes, the TII handle upkeep.

Looks like N17 Galway-Tuam will become N83 and N18 south of oranmore will become N67.

When the Ennis to Gort road was completed with all signage in place, the exit to Galway off the roundabout at Gort had a sign with KM's to Oranmore sign and it was a "R" number road, it was there for 3 days until it was covered over with a N18 sign (I suppose not to confuse other drivers) this cover will probably be removed when the Gort to Tuam road is opened and the now N18 will become a "R" road as planned.

Thanks M17 as always, this thread wouldn't be the same without you

Here is my little update from the other (Gort) side, sorry, all I had was a mobile at the time for pics so the quality isn't the greatest.

photos are taken yesterday (22-10-2016), from Raheen and near Labane flyovers, one is open, other is still under construction.

    1. Starting with Raheen Flyover, looking South towards Gort.
    SupzkW.jpg

    2. Same heading, what is that though in the background, doesn't look like a Coole Park Flyover
    vbfu4y.jpg

    3. More Zoom, is that one of those wildlife overpasses?
    3GYwpK.jpg

    4. Looking North, you can get the rough idea where they are in the progress.
    vo9BK6.jpg

    5. Raheen (bit of the) Flyover itself, that pile on the right is where the old road was, looking east
    i8rG4S.jpg

    6. Looking West:
    xA3DM6.jpg

    7. Next one is Labane Flyover, the next flyover heading North of Raheen, looking South, they still have a good bit to go here
    TfBiqY.jpg

    8. Same place, looking North:
    jSLTge.jpg

    9. With a little bit of Zoom:
    4BY18z.jpg

Overall, they still have a longer way to go, but it certainly seems like they have passed the halfway mark, I'd say it would compare well with M17's post #4917 at Mahanagh, Corofin, the earlier pictures are about 8 months in diifference, maybe M18 is slightly behind that, I'd give about 10 more months to get the M18 to catch up on the current state of the M17, that is if the weather won't play tricks on us this winter.
