I had an insane amount of fun playing this. Even the pure aspect of discovery was great. I played mostly as a ranger, up to level 18, and it was so much fun finding new weapons and discovering the different attack styles you could come up with with different weapons in your main hand and off hand (my personal favourite was where I discovered with an axe in main and torch in off hand, I could throw down some fire around me, then throw my axes through it to create fire axes).
The fact that you could pick up objects which gave you different skills was great craic as well, my favourite in that case being beating a beer thief to death with a garden hoe!
The cities feel amazingly alive, with all the background dialogue between NPC's really adding to the city feel. Exploring in the cities was rewarding as well, I remember walking to the top of a very tall tower in LA to discover a diving board and a pair of goggles you could put on which let you do spins and stuff once you dove off. And speaking of water, the underwater content, what little I explored, adds a whole new aspect to the game as your skill set changes.
Finally, the little bits of humour in game endeared me to it just that bit more, and the little references to GW1 were also appreciated.

Guys complaining about raids obviously never raided with a proper guild, alts and guys ninja'ing? Think you're confusing raids with those lame pick up groups with a bunch of randoms that clear year old content.
I will be a little disapointed if gw2 has none of that to offer but I'll still play it casually.

Raids are too repititive for me, you try and fail untill you come up with a tactic which the raid will never adapt to.

In pvp, no two fights will ever be the same, the people you fight will adapt to you so you get to have fun coming up with no strategies every fight.

I enjoyed the 5v5. I played it like I was playing Domination in Call of Duty.

WvW. I must have been doing something wrong. I never came across a enemy in WvW lol.
I will figure it out on the next weekend.

This is a game that I could sink time into and not regret it because as far as I'm concerned. I have got my monies worth already!

Just shows how massive WvWvW is. You needed to take one of those portal gates to the outer parts were the fighting was or you could of just walked there.

So, when you PvP (WvWvW or 5v5), you are automatically levelled to 80. So does this mean you can't actually level up from PvP? Or do you still get exp?

In Structured PVP ( 5v5 ) you cannot gain any XP. You are scaled to Max level and given all spells and ability's and receive no XP.

In WvWvW You get scaled to Max level but do NOT receive all the spells and ability's and DO receive XP and can level up in there.

    Excellent, as it should be.

    Cool!

"We’ll be conducting a stress test on Monday May 14 from 11 AM to 6:00 PM PDT (-7 GMT).

This special test event is open only to Pre-Purchase customers who have registered their accounts. With your help, we can conduct important tests and address some of the issues we identified during our first Beta Weekend Event. During this event, all you need to do is play normally with a new or existing character on your Beta account using the same game client. Please note that since this is a stress test of our servers, you may experience some in-game performance issues. If you’ve pre-purchased Guild Wars 2 and wish to participate in the stress test, we recommend that you register the account and download the game client."

Stress test this monday night from 7:00PM to 2:00AM.

Expect lots of lag and disconnects as they try to set fire to their servers.

As always my mumble server will be back online for anyone who would like to join for the few hours thats in it.
    Mumble:

    IP: mountaingaming.mdns.co

    Port: 64765

    *No Password*

Anyone up for some epic team based WvWvW monday night? or maybe some Events?

Damn, bad timing. Have an exam at 9:30 the next morning, so can't play. Odd that it's on a Monday, as someone on FB pointed out, a lot of people work on Mondays.

  • Registered Users Posts: 427 ✭✭Saviour_Angel

I wouldn't mind joining you again Mickey.
We could try and take on that water dungeon / boss again ?

I've tested the Elementalist and am thinking that this time I'll try a Thief or Necromancer...

With this stress test, they must be preparing for the next beta, to try and prevent the heart-attack the servers had last time.

Bear in mind it was stressed "roughly" once a month by the GW2 team in a post somewhere.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,191 ✭✭✭uncle_sam_ie

I'm going on a 2 week holiday in July. My luck that's when this game gets released. I'll put money on it.

There was a stress test the weekend before the first beta weekend event as well. Arenanet posted in their blog that this upcoming stress test is to help with the next BWE, considering how packed the servers were that weekend. I wonder how unplayable the game will be come Monday then?

The combat in both games is very good but, with GW2 I just didn't feel that I had to grind my way through the game. It really is a game were you do what you want and enjoy.
