Limerick are in their first football QF ever after beating wexford by a point after a controversial end. After all the heartbreak down through the years, I AM SO FACKIN HAPPY :D YESSSSSSS.

I am happy because now we have an open draw for the quarter finals. Limerick were the form and Wexford were made a lot better than they actually are by Dublin's absolutely terrible performance.

Joy for Limerick tonight but it will be short lived, your going out of the hurling tomorrow.

Can't wait :) With Keaney out for ye, I feel that our chances at winning have gotten that much bigger ;)

Serious hat on, I do, however, question one's ability to commit to playing two sports at the very highest level.

I don't know. Obviously I haven't worked out the logistics of it just yet, but I think football and cycling would be two sports that could work well together side-by-side.

Katie Taylor is one dual-sports player I can think of (not counting GAA, for anyone who plans to jump in), and considering the fact that the Irish ladies' soccer team haven't qualified for a World Cup or the European Championships as far as I can recall, she hasn't quite so much on her plate so she is probably much more focussed on boxing.

Yeah, Katie concentrates on boxing for the most part. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do not think that Katie plays club football, at least not at a high level, just international football. Unreliable source: the comprehension in my Junior Cert Irish Pre... I got a C. :o

I'm not sure quite exactly how you plan to fit in playing for the national team (and presumably a half-decent club side)

    A decent club side. :P

International football won't take up much time, to be honest. I will probably be with the Irish squad for around thirty-ish days a year, maximum -- unless, of course, we qualify for a major tournament.

while putting in the training winning a Tour would require

Okay, here's the thing. I'm a professional footballer playing in the Premiership. I'll start training at around 10AM and then I will be done for the day by 2PM, 30PM at the latest. I have the rest of the day to myself. Nothing to do, no job or anything, just plenty of free-time to kill. I can use that time to train for the Tour de France.

Now, I am under no illusions (perhaps some :o) and I know it won't be that simple. I know I'll have to wait until I have a few days off to fly to France and tackle some mountains to work on my climbing and descending. However, I can work on other parts of cycling in England - such as speed, endurance, and technique - while still playing with my club.
    Aoibheann wrote: »
the other events you'd need to enter even just as a training run (if you were planning on doing a Lance Armstrong by pretty much focussing on just the TdF, you'd still need a race like the Dauphine as practice!).

I'll be focusing on the Tour de France mainly, yeah. That is something I have not really worked out yet. Perhaps there will be some events which will suit my schedule. I'm not too sure now, but when is the Giro on? It's possible that I will be done with my club by the time it begins (though I might have to play in the Carling Nations Cup with Ireland, if it's still around in a few years time).

I'm a crap cyclist, and even THAT takes training! :pac:

Oh, I forget to mention that I, eh, don't actually have a bike. :o

So Cavendish took the final stage, surprise surprise. That's his first time to win the overall green jersey, and his third time in a row winning on the Champs-Élysées (which is a record!). Pretty impressive work for a 26 year old, he's already got TWENTY stage wins in the Tour - that's sixth on the all-time list, only 14 more to go to catch Eddy Merckx at the top! :pac:

I know a lot of people really dislike him (he's a tad outspoken :P), but you can't argue with stats like that. He has an amazing lead-out for sure, but he's definitely the best sprinter around.

    We are awesome.

All he did was come on, get the ball, score a goal and then get minced by a Galway player, then the ref blew it up for Full Time. Not a bad minute for any player but he was nearly taken out.

Yeah actually I couldn't bear watching any more than those 70 minutes, and I was kind of cheering when Ryan scored the goal anyway (despite being from Galway :p), anyone know what Galway player went for him?

Also, Thomas Ryan did very well and is a player of great skill and charm.

    We are awesome.

    Declan Hannon for YHOTY.

Although that's probably not possible now though. But he scored 11 points today. 6 from play. And that's preety amazing.

Limerick lost though. Mainly due to our own faults and bad decisions tbh.
Oh well, nice to see we've a good team coming through :)

The Under 21s game with Clare next week should be very interesting!

What more could he do? That goal was brilliant, and he totally saw it, once Molumphy/Foley(whichever it was) had the ball he read the game and started using his greatest asset, his pace and controlled the ball superbly for an expert goal that no one had a chance of saving.
Definitely should be considered for MoTM

mhm really excited about that especially after seeing Hannon play the way he has today and I really feel Limerick have a good chance :) You going Insecto?

I'm giving serious thought to going anyway. :) I have to choose between a) going to this and b) playing half a pre-season soccer friendly. I'll make my mind up tomorrow.

I must admit Dublin played well but Limerick should have done alot better and both sides were just as each other and draw was the fairest result.

However Limerick's backs are very dirty, tackling with a hurl high is not on because hurling is dangerous enough as it is but carry on like that is not acceptable.

I agree with the first part. Limerick lost it themselves when they could've won it. Wrong decision making, going for goals instead of taking their points, stupid wides.... it all added up in the end.

And when the likes of Ryan O' Dwyer are skipping goals past you for fun in the first half (3rd dublin goal was a square ball btw!), desperate times call for desperate measures. Not saying it's right but ref's punish offences like that. Not like the limerick backs are the only hurlers in the country who have tackled with a hurl high tbf. And I'm preety sure Donal O' Grady's clear cut system of play doesn't involve mauling opposition hurlers either. It's just something that happens at times with every team, tactical fouling.

And I'm not saying it's right. I just think that it's unfair to say they are dirty when it's not as if they are the only ones ever to do it. /bias. :o

Nope, the week after for the Dubs. Doubt it will be full. Getting good tickets wouldn't be hard in that case. My preference is the: Cusack.

The Munster U21s hurling final. Holy crap, one of the greatest games of hurling I've seen since the semi final of the Harty Cup this year!

Neither team deserved to lose. That point by Aidan Walsh to level the game was simply stunning. Extra time now.

    H'on Limerick!

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 7,853 Mod ✭✭✭✭suitcasepink

Yup defo one of the best games of the year, maybe some silly wides take a bit of gloss off it though.
Certainly gets into my top 3 hurling games of this year, well done Limerick! Declan Hannon is seriously some lad, hes just so crafty and skillful.

And Aidan Walsh of Cork is unreal, did he even see any game time with the seniors this year(I know he was on the football panel), coz he'll defo be there next year for them anyway!

Was watching the game on TG4, I was sure Limerick would throw it away there :o

But I'm delighted they didn't. It was definitely one of the best games of the year.

Was screaming at the tv at the end, so happy Limerick won!

COME ON LIMERICK! My ****in heart.. BEST GAME OF HURLING EVER THAT I'VE BEEN TO!! And I touched Declan Hannon, my life is made. MY LIFE IS MADE. YESSSS *wipes tears of happiness* :D:D

Cork scored 1-27 and lost. WTF, teams that win in hurling generally don't score that many.

As the Tipp senior team will tell you, goals win games these days.

Can anyone remind me of the score at the end of the second half? I've forgot it in my excitement! :D

TG4 and RTÉ and even the local radio station are yet to put up a match report or even a score update.
