    Hi tunguska,
No, struggled to a 64:51. I think I lost concentration for mile 5 and 6, they were a total of 34 secs slower than miles 1 and 2 - I should have been able to fly down the Khyber. I felt I was really fading at the end, but in fact 8,9 and 10 were quicker than 3,4 & 5, so it was just that I wasn't speeding up as others were.
I suppose it wasn't too bad on the day, and quite a bit quicker than the 65:44 McMillan would have predicted from my 5 mile time of 4 weeks ago. At least things are going in the right direction. 10 weeks to go....

I think youre being a bit hard on yourself there aero. I mean if I came home in 64:51 Id be claiming it as a 64mins. But either way youre still on target.
What are you shooting for in the half marathon, 1:25?

Just noticed that you can now download your finishing certificate for the Frank Duffy 10 Mile which shows your Finish Time, Chip Time and Placing. When I checked last this was only available for last years races.

    Hi tunguska,
Sorry I somehow missed your post - thanks for the encouragement.
Yep, as per the 1/2 marathon thread, 1.25 is the target. I've done some good sessions since the 10 and I've run over the course for the half several times (well bits of it on different days) and I'm convinced that I can get off to a good fast start. A lot will depend on the weather - fingers crossed.
How did you get on with the new shoes?

I tried to check out the course for the half marathon with Gerard65 last week but I think we mightve taken a wrong turn or two. So Im not 100% sure as to whether its a difficult route or not. What do you think, is it a tough one?

The shoes went great, although I did wear my orthotics on the day which added a bit more weight to them but they were still a lot lighter than my training shoes. Ive decided to wear the racing shoes for the half without the orthos. I'd say I'll be fine, I mean if I have any trouble it'll be when the race is over, I never suffer any kind of stiffness or pain during a race(adrenalin I reckon). And if I am stiff afterwards I'll just use self myofascial release and have an ice bath, that should do the job.
Training is going very well and like you ive had some really good sessions since the 10 miler. In fact id go as far to say that Ive only really figured out how to train properly since that race, something just clicked and Ive been flying ever since. I reckon I can pull a 1:15 out of the bag for the half, but like you said, the weather will have a big say in that. Hopefully it wont be as warm as last year or as breezy as the 10miler.

Have a look on the call your time thread - does my Garmin link work for you - I'm pretty sure I got the route right but that doesn't prevent changes nearer the time.
As for level of difficulty - all courses are hard, but some are faster than others. I suppose it's personal preference. I think the fact there were so many hills in the first half of the 10 made me a little cautious, then when I was behind target at halfway I found it mentally hard to keep the pace up, although the splits show that I did. I reckon the total amount of hills in the half is about the same as one lap of the 10, though the hill up out of the Furry Glen is short and sharp. I'm hoping to get a fast 7.5 miles in, then hang on for the rest. Apart from the hills the last 6 isn't too bad, in fact Acres road should be quick. It's all down to wind as some of it is very exposed. Someone made the point about sharp turns but that shouldn't be as much of a problem with your target time as you'll be able to see where you're going.

It's the Hyperspeed you have? I just got a pair of Asics DS Trainer which are halfway between my 2140s and DS Racer in terms of weight and support. They felt grand for an easy 3 1/2 miles this morning. I'll try them out on a few long runs and possibly the half before making the final choice for the marathon.

+1 on the weather and the training. Just counting down the weeks now...

A cautionary (or not) tale in the irish times about swopping numbers at the 10 mile race.

Hmmm. He doesn't seem very remorseful does he? So who *really* came 2nd in that women's age group? Who came "4th" and will now get a 3rd place prize. Have the results been updated?

He only seems to be embarrassed by being caught as opposed to being genuinely sorry for what he did.

I'm surprised that the Times printed such absolute tripe.
    Unfortunately, this happens quite regularly.
I think this year that Connemarathon had different colour numbers for men and women. A good idea. If you see a male coming in with a "pink" number, you could record it and disqualify that result straight away.
Switching numbers can cause problems like the one mentioned in the Times. It can also cause problems with Masters results. However, the biggest problem can be when someone has to be taken to hospital and the only details a race organiser has is the persons race number. The last thing anyone wants is for the Gardai to be knocking on the wrong door.

They could have at least pointed out at the end that the half has reached 6,000+ entries and will be sold out soon, so don't get caught out like this plonker... blah blah blah.

Entries for the half have gone well past 7000 now.

This is a very very long shot. I was injured for a while this year, and as I couldn't run, I went on a bit of a mission to document all my race results, since I started entering races. I'm pretty confident I have most of my results, except for one: the Frank Duffy 10 Mile 2009.

I'm pretty sure I ran the Frank Duffy in 2008, 2009 or 2010. I reckon it probably was 2009, because I have some emails about registration for that year. I've been having a look at the marathon and race series websites, I've even put them through the Wayback Machine, but try as I might, I can't find the results for 2009. I don't suppose that anyone who posted in this thread at the time downloaded the full results? Or did you know which tracker website had them?

I emailed the marathon organisers in the summer, to see if they still had those results on file somewhere, but I never heard back… I reckon they had more important things to be focusing on.

Anyway, any leads about where I might get those results would be appreciated! I know that sometimes in the past some newspapers would have published full results - that's how I found out my result for a Great Limerick Run event from over a decade ago.

These are the results of the 10 mile races that I know I've done… I'd love to add a Frank Duffy 10 Mile one from 16ish years ago to that list!
