Friday, 4 April, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland
TRENDS ... There will be some more scattered light rain today, with a general slow clearing trend. After that, it looks essentially dry for about a week to ten days; some parts of eastern Ireland may not see further rain after today until 14th to 16th of April, and falls elsewhere won't begin much earlier either. Temperatures will tend to stay warmer than average in the west and near average in the east, sometimes feeling a bit cool due to sea breezes. Later next week it seems likely to warm up in the east as wind gradients will become so slack that only very weak sea breezes will develop on all coasts. The breakdown, when it does come, will likely be rather subtle as there won't be large increases in rainfall but more likely in cloud and a return to more westerly wind regimes.

    FORECASTS
TODAY will be cloudy at first in many areas, a secondary area of light rain has developed trailing last night's rainfall now over some western coastal counties. This secondary area may produce occasional drizzle or light rain in central Leinster and the east midlands until it dies out entirely by afternoon. Temperatures will rise more in western counties due to a cooling influence of the ongoing east-southeast winds. Highs 14 to 17 C west, 11 to 13 C east.
TONIGHT gradual clearing, cool. Lows 2 to 6 C.
SATURDAY sunny with cloudy intervals, these more frequent in Ulster. Highs will be 15 to 18 C in west, 12 to 15 C in south and east, and 10 to 13 C in Ulster. Still rather breezy from an east to southeast direction.
SUNDAY more sunshine likely, not as breezy, so feeling warmer even if temperatures are similar, which seems likely, perhaps with a slight increase for the north.
MONDAY to FRIDAY and probably into weekend of 12-13 April, continued sunny by day, clear at night, with a warm temperature regime gradually becoming better established in all regions and not so confined to western counties. Highs could edge up fairly close to 20 C at times.
A gradual breakdown of the dry spell will likely occur towards 14 to 16 April, but after a few days of more cloudy and showery weather it could well be that we'll see a reloading of another blocking high and a second warm and dry spell for the last third of April -- this is quite tentative at present but would be a sort of best guess given how past situations have unfolded at this time of year.
My local weather turned into a wider ranging sample than usual as we travelled east to visit family members and had to cross the rather high pass between here and there; up at pass elevation it was snowing (snow pellets more precisely) in both directions, in lower elevations it was partly cloudy to sunny with hail showers drifting southward but tending to dry up by later in the day as high pressure is slowly building up while the weak disturbance we've been under drops into Montana and allows colder arctic air to build south. It was around -2 C at 1600 meters and around 7 C in valleys at 500 meters, so the freezing level is around 1200 meters now. That is basically the lower limit of heavy snow cover now, with decaying snow packs between 700 and 1200 meters.

Saturday, 5 April, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland
TRENDS ... Dry for most all week with warm temperatures in western and central counties, closer to average at first in eastern and northern counties. As the moderate east wind gradient dies out midweek, some days will see the warmth more widespread in all regions except coastal fringes and even there it should be quite pleasant.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be sunny with a few clouds, except for parts of south Kerry where a passing offshore disturbance will keep it cloudy with a few light showers. Moderate east winds quite strong at times near south coast. Highs 12 to 15 C in eastern and south coast counties, 11 to 14 C in Ulster, 14 to 19 C further west.
TONIGHT clear with some remnant cloud in southwest, lows 4 to 7 C for most, could fall to 2 or 3 C inland valley locations.
SUNDAY sunny with cloudy intervals, not as breezy so eastern counties could warm up a degree or two, otherwise most places will likely see similar highs to today.
MONDAY to FRIDAY this dry and largely cloud-free pattern will continue with a general trend towards lighter easterly breezes, perhaps ramping back up briefly around Wednesday. The days with light breezes will warm up faster in eastern counties and temperatures there will begin to equalize with the warmer western region. Expect an average high of 17 or 18 C, and local maxima near 20 C possibly. Nights will continue pleasant with a chilly interval just before sunrise but at this time of year that comes quite early and people may not be aware that temperatures briefly fell off to 2 or 3 C long before they ventured outside in 10 to 12 C readings.
As discussed yesterday, the breakdown still looks similar, a return to mobile Atlantic patterns and more cloud and rain around mid-April.

My local weather on Friday was sunny all day but still rather chilly at about 9 C maximum after a morning low of -4 C. We are due to warm up and in our case by a lot because we're planning to visit the desert region for a few days (where it could be 25-30 C).

Sunday, 6 April, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland
TRENDS ... Mild and dry, warmest in western counties but the east will catch up later in the week as wind gradients continue to weaken, suppressing the inland effect of sea breezes.
    FORECASTS
TODAY will be sunny with moderate east winds continuing, highs 13 to 16 C in eastern and northern counties, and near the south coast, inland west and central counties will be 16 to 19 C.
TONIGHT clear, rather chilly, lows 1 to 5 C, potential for scattered ground frosts around sunrise.
MONDAY will continue sunny with winds not as strong but still from an easterly direction. Highs 14 to 17 C east, 17 to 20 C west.
These trends will continue all week with the easterly gradient becoming very weak at times, allowing all inland locations to warm to similar values 18-21 C. Sea breeze zones will be closer to coastlines and will run 13-16 C. Nights will continue cool with fog patches more likely to form once the wind gradient slackens.
A gradual breakdown of this regime will probably begin on Friday or Saturday, and will gather strength Sunday into Monday (13-14 April). Cloud will increase first, then some light rain will follow, and temperatures will fall into a narrower range of 5-8 C at night and 12-15 C by day.
My local weather on Saturday was sunny with a high near 12 C (near 18 C in nearby valleys). As mentioned, I will be disappearing for a week to explore back country locations and I will see if other forecasters are available although in this pattern it's not too urgent to get anyone active until perhaps later in the week.

Will get the weather machine up and running, just got back from a week of very good weather (and travel), it was a record warm 29 C in Salt Lake City on Friday, drove through a dry cold front yesterday with virga all quads eastern WA, clear and cool back home today. I'm told it was entirely dry all week here, as it was everywhere we travelled, never saw more than a few raindrops from weak shower clouds. It was a much drier winter in the desert southwest than 2023-24 was, so consequently fewer desert flowers found on various hikes than we found last April.

I didn't even peek at any overseas weather all week but I'm gathering the dry spell is ending.

Monday, 14 April, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... The coming week will be rather cool and occasionally unsettled, with Thursday and Friday looking like the most likely days for widespread rain. Temperatures will be a degree or two below mid-April normal values. Sunshine will be less frequent than it has been earlier in April.

    FORECASTS

TODAY apart from a spell of wet weather in Wexford (10-15 mm there), most places will have partly cloudy skies with a few showers mainly in the west (2-5 mm). Highs 11-13 C.
TONIGHT a slow clearing trend, lows 1 to 4 C.
TUESDAY further rain at times in southeastern counties, and isolated showers elsewhere, highs 10 to 12 C.
WEDNESDAY cool and generally sunny with cloudy intervals, rain spreading into south coast late in the afternoon. Lows -1 to +3 C and highs 11 to 14 C.
THURSDAY outbreaks of rain and sleet on higher ground as temperatures struggle to rise much above 7 or 8 C in some areas.
FRIDAY scattered showers, highs near 11 C.
EASTER WEEKEND beyond including Monday should be fairly settled but cool, partly cloudy to overcast skies, any rain generally brief and well scattered. Highs 9 to 12 C.
The following week will see a warming trend back to values in the mid-teens.

My recent week away featured sunny and very warm weather running 10-15 (F) or 5-10 ( C ) deg above normal values wherever we happened to be, so near 30 C in low elevation deserts, 22 C in higher elevations of the southwest, and 10-15 C coming back to home base where on Sunday the weather was sunny all day with a near normal high of about 12 C.

Tuesday, 15 April, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Rather cool and becoming more unsettled through later Thursday into Friday and to some extent also Saturday, with a slow clearing trend through Easter Sunday and Monday. A fairly similar cycle can be expected the following week also.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be cloudy with a few sunny breaks more frequent in western counties. Generally dry with widely scattered light showers at first, an interval of steady rain developing by late afternoon near the east coast. Highs 10 to 12 C.
TONIGHT rather cloudy east with occasional rain, lows 3 to 6 C, while clear intervals further west with lows -1 to +3 C.
WEDNESDAY rain becoming heavier at times in north Leinster and east to central Ulster, cloudy from southeast counties to east midlands and west Ulster, partly cloudy further west. Highs 7 to 10 C in wet eastern areas, 10 to 13 C elsewhere.
THURSDAY some sunshine at times before rain begins to develop across south, and cloud ahead of that pushes into central and northern counties. Lows -1 to +4 C and highs 8 to 12 C.
FRIDAY overcast with heavy rain at times, 20-40 mm possible, breaking the dry spell for many areas not already affected by the eastern rainfalls earlier. Rather chilly with temperatures steady in a range of 7 to 10 C. Sleet or wet snow could fall on higher slopes.
SATURDAY rain pushing further north and persistent through the day in Ulster, north midlands and parts of Leinster, variable cloud and showers in a westerly wind 30-50 km/hr across the south. Lows near 6 C and highs near 9 C except 10-12 C in parts of Munster and south Connacht.
EASTER SUNDAY still rather cloudy at first with a few remnant showers, could brighten up later in the day, lows 4 to 7 C and highs 10 to 13 C.
MONDAY will be partly cloudy to sunny with isolated showers in a few northern counties mainly, lows near 3 C and highs near 12 C.
The rest of the week will see a gradual return to unsettled weather and more outbreaks of rain possible, not as heavy as those expected later this week. By end of April, both the warm temperature anomaly so far and the dry rainfall totals will be largely overturned.

My local weather was sunny and pleasant at 15 C, getting us out for the first round of golf since October.

Wednesday, 16 April, 2025 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Cool and wet, eventually in all parts of Ireland, especially later Thursday and Friday, then a drier interval. Somewhat warmer at times next week.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will see heavy rain continuing in parts of Leinster and most of Ulster. Partly cloudy to overcast further west, with sunny intervals more frequent by afternoon. Highs 6 to 9 C in the rain, and 10 to 13 C in dry parts of the country.
TONIGHT will be clear to partly cloudy with rain gradually ending in any parts of Ulster still seeing any rain by early evening. Lows -1 to +4 C.
THURSDAY increasing cloud followed by scattered showers, an interval of heavier rain pushing into south late in the day. Highs 9 to 11 C.
FRIDAY will be rather wet especially in western counties, chilly with temperatures steady 6 to 10 C.
SATURDAY further rain tapering to showers, winds east to northeast 40-60 km/hr as the low responsible for the rain intensifies and backs away from Munster to the southwest, pulling in a cool northeasterly flow ... lows near 5 C and highs 8 to 11 C. Total rainfalls for the period could exceed 50 mm in places. Some local flooding although the soil is currently dry and can absorb a significant rainfall except perhaps in eastern counties.
EASTER SUNDAY should see at least some sunny intervals and any showers will be brief and widely separated. Lows 1 to 4 C and highs 10 to 13 C.
The outlook for next week is rather uncertain and continues to change on guidance, so the best compromise at present is to expect near normal conditions with some rain at times and some dry intervals too. It could also turn quite warm in a few parts of the southeast briefly midweek (this is more likely in Britain as a southerly flow develops for a time).

My local weather on Tuesday was sunny and hazy, quite warm at around 17 C locally and 21 C in nearby valleys.

Thursday, 17 April, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Cool and wet for several days after a largely dry start today, occasional breaks will return Easter Sunday and next week will see alternating dry and showery spells with a warming trend.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will start out partly cloudy or sunny, with a gradual increase in cloud by mid-day in south, afternoon further north. Rain will move into Munster and south Leinster by evening, with highs of 10 to 13 C.
TONIGHT rain will be heavy at times especially in western counties, 20-30 mm possible there, 10-20 mm more likely in east. Moderate east-southeast winds 30-50 km/hr. Lows 4 to 7 C.
FRIDAY will continue wet and chilly with winds east-southeast at 40-70 km/hr, strong at times near east coast and in Ulster generally. Further rainfalls of 20-40 mm possible. Local flooding could develop. Highs only 6 to 9 C (10 or 11 C possibly in some western coastal locations).
SATURDAY gradual but slow improvements will begin as the storm weakens and moves back to the southwest, turning winds a little more to the northeast at 40-60 km/hr. Rain will be more showery and may end altogether in some areas by afternoon. Lows near 5 C and highs near 11 C.
EASTER SUNDAY some sunny intervals despite widespread cloud at first, then outbreaks of rain near west and south coasts by late afternoon or evening, spreading to Leinster overnight. Lows near 5 C and highs 10 to 13 C.
MONDAY some rain at first then gradual clearing, a bit warmer, lows near 6 C and highs near 14 C.
The rest of next week will see a slight warming trend with highs of around 15 or 16 C in an east to southeast flow; some cloud and rain at times, it won't be dry and sunny like the last easterly spell, but at the same time rain won't be excessive or prolonged. The following week into early May also looks quite warm and the flow will veer to south then southwest with weak passing frontal systems and temperatures still slowly rising towards 17 or 18 C for daily highs; nights will be quite mild.

My local weather on Wednesday turned colder with sunshine all morning and a very gusty northwest wind, cloud and a few melting snowflakes appeared for a time then the sun returned later in the afternoon. The high was only around 6 C and it felt even colder due to the strong winds which have now died down.

TONIGHT foggy or misty with more rain in places, lows 5 to 8 C.
EASTER SUNDAY will brighten up gradually, with rain less widespread for a time, before resuming over western counties during the afternoon, spreading further east by evening. Highs will be 12 to 15 C.

Sunday, 20 April, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland
TRENDS ... Rather cloudy until later in the week, some more rain likely (Tuesday looking like the wettest day), but generally dry from about Thursday to end of April.
    FORECASTS
TODAY will be rather cloudy with a few brighter intervals developing. Some remnant rain or drizzle lingers over west-central counties and will gradually end, before a more organized band of light rain arrives from the west later this afternoon. Misty or foggy over hills for at least first half of the day. Highs 12 to 14 C.
TONIGHT will be overcast with rain at times, about 5-8 mm likely. Lows near 7 C.
MONDAY rain tapering off to showers, some sunny breaks developing, highs 13 to 15 C.
TUESDAY intervals of rain, 10-15 mm likely. Lows near 8 C and highs 12 to 15 C.
WEDNESDAY gradual clearing, lows near 7 C and highs near 14 C.
THURSDAY a few showers but little accumulation of rain, lows around 9 C and highs 14 to 16 C.
FRIDAY sunny intervals, lows near 7 C and highs near 17 C.
SATURDAY partly cloudy, isolated showers, lows near 7 C and highs near 18 C.
SUNDAY and MONDAY (27-28 April) and possibly into Tues 29th and Wed 30th, sunny and quite warm inland, highs to near 20 C.
A colder northeast to northerly flow will replace this warmer regime some time early in May. It could signal a longer lasting change in the trend but will likely lead to alternating cool and warm spells.
My local weather on Saturday was partly cloudy with a few brief showers, one this evening produced some noisy hail for a few minutes, no thunder with it. The high was around 12 C. Severe storms are widespread in the south central U.S. overnight.

Monday, 21 April, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Rather cloudy until later in the week, some more rain likely (Tuesday looking like the wettest day), but generally dry from about Friday to end of April.

    FORECASTS

TODAY rain tapering off to showers, some sunny breaks developing, isolated heavy showers or thunderstorms in central counties mainly by late afternoon, highs 13 to 15 C.
TONIGHT partly cloudy, misty or foggy, rain later on west coast, lows 6-8 C.
TUESDAY intervals of rain after a dry start in eastern counties, 10-15 mm likely, and highs 12 to 15 C.
WEDNESDAY gradual clearing, lows near 7 C and highs near 14 C.
THURSDAY a few showers but little accumulation of rain, lows around 9 C and highs 14 to 16 C.
FRIDAY sunny intervals, lows near 7 C and highs near 17 C.
SATURDAY partly cloudy, isolated showers, lows near 7 C and highs near 18 C.
SUNDAY and MONDAY (27-28 April) and probably also Tues 29th and Wed 30th, sunny and quite warm inland, highs to near 20 C. Somewhat cooler by Wed 30th in Ulster and north Leinster when winds turn north to northeast there, a trend that will follow further south by 1st of May.
A colder northeast to northerly flow will replace this warmer regime some time early in May. It could signal a longer lasting change in the trend but will likely lead to alternating cool and warm spells.

My local weather on Easter Sunday was overcast with a few breaks and passing light showers some of which briefly dropped small hail melting as it fell, highs near 10 C.

Tuesday, 22 April, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Rather cloudy and turning warmer in stages, occasional rain. Guidance has shifted somewhat away from a very warm and dry interval as southerly flow now looks more disturbed, albeit quite warm still.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be cloudy with rain spreading gradually east and becoming rather heavy at times this afternoon, highs 12 to 14 C.
TONIGHT rain will slowly edge east and taper off to drizzle and fog, clearing from north later. Lows near 6 C. Total rainfalls 10-15 mm.
WEDNESDAY will be partly cloudy to sunny with a high near 13 C.
THURSDAY cloudy with some brighter intervals, light rain at times, mild and humid, lows near 10 C and highs near 17 C.
FRIDAY variable cloud, a few showers, lows near 8 C and highs near 15 C.
SATURDAY partly cloudy, showers, lows 7 to 10 C and highs 14 to 16 C.
SUNDAY to TUESDAY continued rather cloudy, warm, occasional rain heavier in west, some spells of warm sunshine also. Highs 17 to 19 C.
As this change in outlook involves a stronger southerly flow now, the compensation may be that a colder turn in early May will be shifted east into central Europe and Ireland could stay fairly warm for another week.

My local weather on Easter Monday was quite chilly, with passing snow flurries and a high only around 6 C. It's likely to warm up gradually all week here and reach the 18-21 C range by about Friday.

Wednesday, 23 April, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Rather warm with some rain at times, but more frequent in western counties.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will gradually clear to sunny skies with isolated buildups of cloud that could drop brief light showers in a few northern counties, in a slight northeast breeze turning light and variable by afternoon. Highs 12 to 14 C.
TONIGHT clear intervals in the east, cloudy west, lows 5 to 8 C.
THURSDAY rather cloudy with a few brighter intervals in east, light rain slowly advancing into western counties. Highs 15 to 18 C.
FRIDAY outbreaks of rain gradually pushing further east with partly cloudy and warm weather by later afternoon. Lows near 10 C and highs 15 to 19 C.
SATURDAY partly cloudy, some rain by late in the day in western counties. Lows near 8 C and highs 17 to 19 C.
SUNDAY partly cloudy to sunny, isolated showers, lows near 8 C and highs 18 to 20 C.
MONDAY sunny with cloudy intervals, warm. Lows near 10 C and highs 19 to 21 C.
TUESDAY increasing cloud, some rain later in the day, lows near 10 C and highs 17 to 20 C.
High pressure will be trying to dominate later in the week and this may push winds back around to a southeast or easterly direction, with temperatures staying a little above seasonal averages, 16 to 19 C, for several more days. Overall it's a fairly pleasant outlook for this time of year.

My local weather improved to mostly sunny skies and highs near 10 C at our elevation and 15 C in nearby valleys. We're also warming up to near 20 C here later in the week. Spring is well advanced in the nearby lower elevations, but only just starting to show a few signs at our elevation where we still have snow in shaded areas and no real sign of tree foliation yet.

Thursday, 24 April, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Turning warmer with some rain at times, not very persistent away from the west coast.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be hazy and rather warm, with a little rain at times in western counties mostly. Highs 15 to 18 C.
TONIGHT overcast with intervals of light rain or drizzle, foggy in some areas, lows 8 to 11 C.
FRIDAY rain will become a bit more persistent and will slowly move through central to eastern counties. Moderate south to southwest breezes and highs 15 to 17 C.
SATURDAY partly cloudy, rain should hold off for most areas but could spread into western counties at times. Lows near 8 C and highs 15 to 18 C.
SUNDAY guidance is somewhat divided, I noticed some forecasts were talking about rain and blustery winds but some guidance looks more settled holding the rain well off to the west as high pressure begins to build in. So take your pick on this for now, I don't have a strong hunch as to which way this is going to go (possibly a compromise of dry east, rain west coast) after several twists and turns in guidance for this setup already. It's likely to be quite warm either way at 17 to 19 C.
MONDAY and TUESDAY look better defined for partly cloudy to sunny conditions and quite warm at 19 to 22 C.
Rain may begin to encroach from the south by about Wednesday or Thursday, and after that a more unsettled but still quite warm regime takes over.

My local weather on Wednesday was very pleasant, sunny with cloudy intervals, light winds and highs 15 to 20 C depending on elevation.

Friday, 25 April, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Some rain today but then generally warm and dry into the start of next month.

    FORECASTS

TODAY some outbreaks of rain will continue to make slow eastward progress becoming mostly confined to Leinster and east Ulster by afternoon, 5-10 mm is expected. Highs 15-18 C.
TONIGHT rain gradually ending and becoming misty or foggy, mild, lows 7 to 10 C.
SATURDAY partly cloudy, isolated showers in west and north, breezy, highs 16 to 19 C.
SUNDAY partly cloudy, rain skirting west coast may push a short distance inland on its way to west Ulster but amounts of rain could be quite small even where it does show up, lows near 10 C and highs 17 to 19 C.
MONDAY and TUESDAY will turn a little warmer with partly cloudy to sunny skies. Lows 7 to 10 C and highs near 21 C.
WEDNESDAY and possibly THURSDAY could be even warmer especially away from east and south coasts where sea breezes might cool shoreline areas slightly, otherwise potential for highs into the 22-25 C range, and this warmth could trigger isolated thundershowers inland south.
This unusual warmth will probably not last much beyond Friday 2nd of May after which a gradual return to normal temperatures can be expected, as some cloud and rain develops from the south before a somewhat cooler air mass moves in from the east or northeast, temperatures will be in the 15 to 19 C range by then.

My local weather on Thursday was sunny and warm, with highs near 17 C (21 C in valleys).

Saturday, 26 April, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Patchy light rain will come and go this weekend in some western and northern counties, otherwise dry and rather warm. Sunny and even warmer for several days during the week, gradually cooling after Friday (2nd May).

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy to overcast and some light rain may appear from time to time near west coast and into west Ulster later. Generally dry in other regions but can't rule out isolated outbreaks of drizzle especially near south coast. Highs 16 to 19 C.
TONIGHT mostly cloudy, mild, some mist or drizzle. Lows 8 to 12 C.
SUNDAY partly cloudy, warm, some rain will move north near Atlantic coasts during the morning hours and could spread into west Ulster by afternoon, otherwise generally dry. Highs 16 to 19 C.
MONDAY partly cloudy to sunny, coastal mist or fog possible, lows near 8 C and highs 17 to 20 C.
TUESDAY to THURSDAY will be sunny and warm, lows near 8 C and highs 17 to 22 C. Slight cooling near some coasts from weak sea breezes, and potential for isolated thundery showers inland south where these sea breezes push into heated air inland. Light winds with a slight easterly component but sea breezes will be possible on all coasts.
By FRIDAY somewhat cloudier but still quite warm, as a weak northerly flow begins. Lows near 10 C and highs near 19 C.
A slight drop in temperatures will continue into the following weekend (3-4 May) and week after that, and eventually some rain will develop as a weak northerly flow is replaced by Atlantic frontal systems slowly moving northeast across Ireland.

My local weather on Friday was sunny and warm, with highs near 21 C locally and 25-28 C in lower elevations of the region.

Tuesday, 29 April, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Warm and dry for most of the coming week, some rain could move into south on Thursday. A cooler week will follow, the change beginning around Tuesday of next week.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be mostly sunny and quite warm in most places, a few coastal locations could be a bit cooler due to weak sea breezes. Highs generally 20 to 23 C, locally 17 to 19 C.
TONIGHT will be clear and mild, lows 6 to 10 C.
WEDNESDAY will also be sunny and warm, with perhaps an isolated thundery shower or two in parts of the inland southwest. Highs again 20 to 23 C, a bit cooler near some coasts.
THURSDAY becoming cloudy in south and some central counties, a few outbreaks of light rain possible in south. Continued partly cloudy to sunny further north. Highs 17 to 21 C.
FRIDAY to about MONDAY will continue rather warm, perhaps a degree or two cooler than this peak warmth period just starting, but still near 20 C for highs and partly cloudy to sunny each day.
A cooler interval will begin with a wind shift to northerly around Tuesday next, and the coolest day at present looks to be Thursday (8th of May) when it could be only 9 to 12 C daytime with passing showers. A recovery to mid-teens at least will follow.

My local weather saw the gradual end of a warm spell we've been enjoying with increasing cloud all afternoon followed by an interval of very light rain and falling temperatures from daytime highs near 21 C to evening readings closer to 8 C. We'll have a showery day on Tuesday followed by another warm, dry spell for the latter half of the week.

Wednesday, 30 April, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Warm and dry for most, but some interruptions will take place with scattered thundery showers in west and southwest later today, outbreaks of rain across some southern counties tomorrow afternoon. It will then revert to mainly dry conditions in all regions for several days, and warmth will fade gradually, with quite chilly temperatures possible in about a week's time.

    FORECASTS
TODAY will be sunny and very warm in many parts of the country, with scattered thundery showers developing along sea breeze fronts inland west and southwest by afternoon. Locally one or two of them could be heavy for brief intervals. At the same time, large parts of the east will escape this risk altogether. Highs 20 to 23 C.
TONIGHT clearing again with lows 7 to 10 C.
THURSDAY a mixture of cloud and sun, some outbreaks of light rain in north fading away, then heavier showers possible across parts of the inland south by afternoon. Highs 16 to 20 C.
FRIDAY variable cloud with afternoon sunny breaks, lows 6 to 9 C and highs 16 to 20 C.
WEEKEND including MONDAY likely to see a general continuation of partly cloudy and mostly dry weather with isolated showers possible around Saturday afternoon from a weak front dying out across northern and eastern counties. Highs each day 15 to 19 C, nights relatively mild at 4 to 8 C. This first push of cooler air will be weak and largely ineffective, but stronger pushes of colder air will follow next week. Eventually quite a strong northerly flow will develop briefly, and by about Thursday 7th temperatures could fall as low as 9-13 C in the daytime with passing showers. It does look like it may then turn warmer again with readings returning to at least the normal range (15-18 C) if not slightly above.

My local weather on Tuesday was partly cloudy with just traces of rain early in the day; shower clouds moved past without dropping much rain locally, and it was around 14 C. We're going to warm up rather steadily over coming days to the low 20s.

Thursday, 1 May, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Except for some scattered thundery showers in the inland south later today, it should remain generally dry for about a week to ten days, with a few isolated showers appearing during the middle of next week. Temperatures will be on a generally downward trend although probably not going below average for time of year.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will start with some sunshine in central and southern counties, more cloud in the north with isolated showers fading away. Later on, heavy showers will develop across parts of the inland south, but it will likely remain dry in central counties. Highs 17 to 21 C.
TONIGHT partly cloudy to clear, lows 5 to 8 C.
FRIDAY partly cloudy to sunny, highs 17 to 20 C.
    SATURDAY partly cloudy, turning a bit cooler in Ulster and north Leinster, lows 4 to 7 C and highs 13 to 16 C north/east, 15 to 18 C south/west.
SUNDAY and following days, largely dry, partly cloudy to sunny skies, isolated showers becoming a bit more widespread in east around Wednesday-Thursday but still rather sparse rainfall in general. Temperatures will be around average for early May, highs of 15 to 18 C and overnight lows 4 to 7 C. The longer term outlook is for occasional warm spells and not a lot of rain in the first half of May, probably becoming more unsettled towards end of May.

My local weather on Wednesday was rather breezy and generally sunny with a few clouds, warming up to near 20 C by afternoon after a rather chilly start.

Friday, 2 May, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Partly cloudy skies will prevail with temperatures close to average for early May. It will remain dry for at least another week in many locations, then a few showers could develop in slightly more overcast conditions across the south, while it seems likely to remain dry further north for a second week.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy with highs 13 to 16 C.

TONIGHT will be partly cloudy to clear with lows 4 to 7 C.

SATURDAY partly cloudy, rather cool in north, where highs 12 to 15 C, 13 to 17 C further south.

SUNDAY partly cloudy to sunny, lows 3 to 6 C and highs 13 to 16 C.

All of next week will continue with similar temperatures under variable amounts of cloud and some sunshine each day. Winds light and generally north to northeast. Highs 13 to 17 C and overnight lows 3 to 6 C all week.

Any changes further along will likely be towards more cloud and less sun in a partly cloudy to overcast regime that slowly replaces the 50-50 mix expected this week, so change will be subtle and quite gradual, but eventually some showers seem likely in the mix for the southern counties at least.

My local weather on Thursday was sunny and very warm with highs well into the 20s.
