That rather depends on where you intend to put it.

    On my chain.

I threaded a chainring bolt so had to order replacements. Now my cuffs match my collars.

    Subtlety begone!

(hmmm, that second nipple looks a bit too recessed)

Replaced my 10 year old red Stradivarius with a new white one.

Also a nice 9 speed (12-27) 6500 Ultegra block for the MTB. 200g saving compared to a similar priced XT one, and perhaps 100g on the XTR it is to replace.

That's not a bad idea on the cassette! With a granny ring, you'll never run out of gears no matter the cassette.

After 5 punctures in 6 spins I've decided to try and go tubeless and see if it helps. Speaking of which anyone know how long a presta tube would last in a schrader rim as a stop gap till the above arrives? Also went and bought new tyres more suited for summer trails.

I ran that for a good while with no hastle. A few months on my old bike with no issues anyway.

Started on this last night with my wheels actually. It is a right pain in the arse getting the rim strip/rubber seal to line up properly on the rim. Still haven't got it right. XC717 rims.

The valve won't make a difference in a wheel, it's only the tube thickness that is particularly relevant.

I wonder if people run tubeless on their commuter bike at all, it would be rather handy

I run notubes in the MTB and find it excellent for running low PSI (20-25) which really makes climbing on gravel or mud easier. Saved me plenty of times when you hear the sudden pssssssssst... and then nothing as you keep going. I think that is the key, your immediate reaction is to grab the brakes and stop, but you have to keep going so the fluid gets to the hole quickly.

Tried the "pour this stuff in your normal tube" on the road bike with limited success - one tube completely blew once so obviously the gunk couldn't seal that, and I haven't had a puncture in the other - cue 3 now in the coming week.

I was thinking of trying to run tubeless when I have to replace the current tyres this summer.

Lycra shorts are honestly far far more comfortable over long distance. There is a reason all serious cyclists wear them, and it's not for the aesthetics. If you can get over your hangups your arse will thank you for it.

yeah i kinda figured. it is just getting over the hang up:o

well, i'm new to cycling (new to cycling sorta seriously i mean). i'm only cycling about two months or thereabouts and i'm only cycling about 60 miles x once per week at the moment, as well as the weekly commute. once the weather picks up i'm hoping to get out more often.

anyway - i commuted for the first few weeks with normal shorts - which was agony, obviosly, but it got a lot less painful after the first few days. then i got the baggy shorts - and lovely and comfy - up to about 50 miles. and i've only been out for about 5 or 6 spins x 50 or 60 miles at this stage. so i'm just wondering - would lycra make such a big difference or do i just need a bit of adjusting to sitting on the bike for 3 or 3 and a half hours ??? at this stage, after 60 miles my lungs and legs will let me keep going - but my ass wont !!

    thanks.

Right....decided to treat myself to something nice since I'm still off sick and had a voucher so figured I would pick up my first Assos item...Knee warmers it was! €42 seems a bit mad for warmers but anyone who buys Assos raves about them so hope there right and there worth it!

    http://www.cyclesuperstore.ie/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=209&idproduct=36059

    **Edit**

Have just read some reviews on chainreaction saying that these are really poor and slip down after 40 odd mins! I did ask the lads in the shop should I be concerned about the lack of elastic around the top and I was told should not be an issue! Anyone have these?

All Assos stuff is brilliant...apart from the knee warmers.

I have some, worn twice, not since. You could have had them cheap - I hate them. Perhaps your legs are chunky enough to hold them up.

Am fairly hyped by my rothar nua alainn, purchased via t'internet from Germany! (Cheers to Lumen for pointing me in the direction of the S-Tec site, in my "find a bike" thread a few months ago)

The recent Greek sovereign debt crisis was the catalyst behind this purchase, as I had to shell out whilst Irish Credit Cards are still accepted in Deutchland! ;)

The bike has just arrived in time for a weeks holidays out the Wesht of Eire, where I'll introduce it to the Irish roads & hills.

Did your German bike come with the beach towel? German efficiency ;)

They might be fine, depending on your leg shape. The problem with the design (compared to the Castelli ones I got to replace them) is that there are no grippers at the top and they only come in one size, so my twig legs won't hold them up.

I've never had a problem with my Assos knee warmers.

I wonder why that is.... ;)

FakeAV - Malware de jour. Shoddy stuff if their site has been compromised and an iFrame injected.
