I would say the bookies love Pricewiswe and the likes.....They tip something that should be, say 20/1. one or two punters get on at that price and then the horse is way over backed at the reduced odds.

    Bookies paradise

thats not what hills said a while back anyway

I suppose he was bound to tip some winners. I felt great when I didnt back his losers though, but it is always the same. When I do something really "clever" it goes against me. I am never backing him again............ hes off my team forever.

Puzzlemaster can provide the answer at Doncaster
    Puzzlemaster
    4.40 Doncaster
    1pt each-way at 16-1 generally
1m2f on heavy ground proved Puzzlemaster's optimum conditions at Nottingham three starts back, when he destroyed a six-runner field upwards of six lengths, writes Matt Williams.
He has been unable to repeat that level of form on his last two starts over 1m4f, but there was nothing wrong with his fifth on good ground at York two weeks ago and the drop back to 1m2f60y is going to suit Jane Chapple-Hyam's three-year-old.

    RELATED LINKS

Rain earlier in the week certainly helps his cause but connections will still be hoping the forecast showers are heavy enough to force a change of going, as some of the market leaders, including the hat-trick seeker, Tanfidh, might not enjoy softer conditions.
I would have preferred a single-figure draw for Puzzlemaster and stall 14 isn't ideal, however, the positives outweigh the negatives and I am expecting a big run from him at value odds.

5-1 Captain fancied to come good at Doncaster
    Captain Dancer
    5.10 Doncaster
1pt win at 5-1 with Stan James (9-2 generally)

Barry Hills's runners at Doncaster always command respect and this lightly-raced three-year-old should have a major say in the outcome of the closing 7f handicap there today, writes Matt Williams.
He was an odds-on flop at Southwell in May, when something was clearly amiss with him, but he bounced back to some sort of form from a poor draw to finish fifth of16 in a competitive race at Salisbury last time. He may have needed the run that day and if Hills has primed him for this race, I wouldn't be surprised if he had something in hand of the others at the weights.

    RELATED LINKS

Let's face it, he shaped better than a mid-70's horse when he won his maiden over 7f on good to soft ground (similar conditions to today's) at Newmarket around this time last year and he has had excuses both starts since.
I wouldn't say this is last chance saloon but, with the obvious exception of the likes of Tiddliwinks, there are some exposed and slow horses in the race and punters shouldn't let the burden of top weight put them off backing Captain Dancer. After what has been a fruitless season for the horse, this is his chance to put the record straight and prove himself better than he has shown so far, something that won't be lost on his trainer.

    Anyone got Tom Segals picks?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10 columba

Segal has gone for Dancing David (heard it on the morning line) in the Doncaster 15.30. It was supposedly 20s, but I have only seen 12 and 14. still 14 on william hill. Are there any others?

Invincible Lad in the Coral Sprint. Managed to get 14s - best now is 12-1.

So both Tom Segal and Hugh Taylor have gone for Invincible Lad, and its drfiting back out 10/1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,135 ✭✭✭POINTBREAK

Tom did go got Invincible Lad 1pt @ 14/1
    and Dancing David 1pt @ 16/1

He makes the point that it is difficult to come from off the pace at Doncaster recently and says that and the ground and his style of running will go against Elusive Pimpernel, who is the form horse.

Za Za Zoom of serious interest at a tasty 16-1
    Za Za Zoom
    3.45 Newbury
    1pt win 16-1 (general)

Come the end of the season Barry Hills' horses always seem to strike form with a vengeance. That was certainly the case with his juveniles at Doncaster yesterday and today it could be worth chancing Hills' Za Za Zoom in the Radley Stakes at Newbury, writes Tom Segal.

    RELATED LINKS

On paper this isn't a strong listed race and there are any number that could improve enough to win it, so why not back the Hills runner at 18-1 after her stylish success at Windsor last time. Her pedigree strongly suggests that soft ground will improve her and Hills has won this race three times this millennium, which suggests that he thinks this filly is up to the task.

    Hunterview solid given favourable conditions
    Hunterview
    4.05 Doncaster
    1pt win 10-1 (Ladbrokes)

Michael Jarvis has had such a great run with his middle-distance handicappers that it is surely significant that he opts to run Hunterview off bottom weight in the mile and half race of that ilk at Doncaster this afternoon, writes Tom Segal.

    RELATED LINKS

Libel Law and Almiqdaad won valuable races of this type not long ago and only a couple of weeks back Jarvis trained horses dominated a similar race at Ascot with Opinion Poll beating Kings Destiny. Hunterview probably isn't of that standard but he is a progressive horse that is likely to be well suited by the step up to a mile and half and he is also proven with give underfoot. Last time he didn't look the easiest of rides at Epsom but he stayed on well at that tricky track and he should find things more straightforward today.

Hillview Boy is dangerous on ground he'll like, but three-year-olds have been dominating this type of race in recent weeks and the 10-1 about Hunterviewlooks too big.

Today was great, the prices seemed to steady, maybe the bookies are preoccupied with the well gambled on racing post trophy race

Yeah there is a lot of competitive racing on today spread across both flat and jumps. This has almost certainly helped hold some of these prices up for a little longer than normal i.e. 1 minute instead of 20 seconds with both Za Za Zoom and Hunterview!!!!
