Got this just before Xmas and picked up the yellow strap while I was away...I wasn't sure about the strap at first but it's really after growing on me:)

I have tried to rationalise my collection a little bit (off loaded quite a few digitals).

I currently have a Seiko Marinemaster 'MM300' SBDX001, Omega Aquaterra (2500), Stowa 1938 Chronograph on the go. I can justify one more automatic (but only one !)

I'm eyeing up an Omega Speedmaster as my next purchase...but can't get Planet Oceans out of my head (love them - but couldn't justify one in the same box as the Marinemaster, which I really love and isn't going anywhere).

A few photos of my Speedy 3570.50 when on holiday in the Connemara over the New Year. Apologies for the camera phone quality and salt spray!

Just love the hesalite for its warmth, the distortions at angle and how it plays with light.

Love the Speedy and thinking very strongly as my next purchase. I'd buy with bracelet but I think I'd prefer it on leather.

There is a significant jump in price with the Co-Axial version. Anyone go experiance with that model? Is it worth the extra mula?

Agreed, I've a black croc strap on order. But definitely better to buy on bracelet. Looks good on brown croc too.

Depends what you're looking for, I'm a bit of a sucker for the whole moon watch history and for me it's what the Speedmaster Pro is all about. So I had to get the 3570.50 (Handwind, hesalite, solid caseback), and the lemania movement.

But the co-axial's are a more modern movement, arguably more accurate timekeeping and longer service intervals. Also offers date, and day/date versions.

Both versions have their strengths, best to see them in person, and do a little research regarding the moonwatch history if you're not familiar.

Interesting and humorous article here: http://pippick.com/speedypro/speedypro1.htm

Yeah I have the PO Co-Ax and it keeps great time. I would be very happy with the Speedy Pro. Are you ordering an Omega strap or a custom one?

Me too - and it's the 3570 I would plump for,to be bought on bracelet but spending most of its time on black croc with a deployant.

My Aquaterra has the co-axial 2500 movement. It is a genuinely innovative design and as regards reliability & accuracy I find the watch (now 6 or 7 years old, one routine service at Omega) to be well within COSC specs continuously - and this watch has most certainly not been babied.

But in a speedmaster - the 3570 please.

I have my eye on a very nice vintage Speedy ST 145.022 circa 1971 (40 years old).

I've ordered an original one, on buckle, not deployant. Found it to be more comfortable when I tried both at local AD.

That would be special! And from the period of lunar landing missions, a proper little bit of history there.

I do love the fact that the design has aged so well, a proper classic.

Apart from the humdrum clasp, I think this particular watch can hold its own against watches that cost several hundreds (if not thousands) as far as fit and finish are concerned ...I'm rather taken by it, as you may have guessed :D

As Mrs. P also has a liking for nice watches, this is what she bought recently (see pics below) ...Vostok Amfibia "Lady First"

A very nice watch, very solid. It may not look it in the pictures, but apart from the strap everything is stainless steel, no plastic. In deviation from other Amfibias, this is a 17 Jewel handwind and only 100m water resistant.
Still it should do nicely for the next holiday on the beach.

It also has a nifty strap where the excess is looped inside (instead of through a keeper), so no loose ends flapping around. Sadly the pic of that is out of focus ...but no hope of getting the watch back for a second shoot ;)

If bullseye could get one from before that date with the actual movement that was used by the Apollo missions even better as they'll hold their value for longer I reckon. I think they changed over from the earlier movement in 68/69?

I agree 100% S one of the best chronos ever IMH.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

The 321 movement would probably add a few thousand to the price tag? I'd certainly be interested if the right one came along at the right price.

Agreed, a pre-moon with a cal.321 movement would certainly be more collectable. Interestingly it is not a 'professional' and doesn't have the 'first watch on the moon' caseback engraving, as it would have been made before the first lunar landings.

I'm sure I have heard it is also harder to get spares for the cal.321 movement.

I've been looking for a 1971 Speedmaster for ages; really wanted it before December (for the obvious reason). If you change your mind and decide not to get it, let me know. (i.e. I'm not a gazumper.)

    M. I am in no huge hurry and wasn't planning to purchase until closer to my birthday so go ahead and have a look at this one:).

    BTW thanks for the consideration.

BTW I am not 100% if its 1971 or 1972 the description says 40 years.

Latest arrival to fill the dress watch void I was experiencing ;)
Bought on the bay in mint condition so I am very happy.

Some info I found on the interweb about the watch..
The movement in the watch is marked 2614.2H, where "H" is Cyrillic for the Roman "N", the same movement that powered the "Jessica". Made from 1972 it was made in large quantities, and many were supplied to other watch manufacturers - "Jessica" is one example. Vostok now owns the tooling for this movement (and probably the automatic version 2616.2H) but not doing much with it.

It might be helpful to learn the standard movement code convention too. In this example, "26" means movement diameter in mm, "14" means centre-second, shock-proof, hand-wind with date; the "2H" after the dot means third new design.
