If I were to get my earlobe pierced how long would I want to wait to get it stretched?

It takes about 6 weeks to heal so wait the 6 weeks and then give it another month or so before you start stretching :)

Hi, to Baz 2009, Sea Salt is better for cleaning than piercing lotion. Don't use cotton wool, it sticks to the piercing. Paper towel is better. Make sure you pat it dry, wet piercings don't heal. If you want you can try lavender oil. It's a natural healer and speeds up the process. Don't use it neat, you want 5% in a carrier such as almond oil. Apply 1 drop once a day. Again too wet won't heal.

Nemanja91, your other option is to get yor ear pierced with a larger guage and then when it heals, after 6 weeks, you will already be at around 3 mm.

With the sea salt is it:
    -Boil water
    -Allow to cool
    -Throw in some sea salt
    -Wet paper towel
    -Clean piercing
    -Dry piercing
    ?

    How much sea salt?

  • Registered Users Posts: 329 ✭✭Pierced Off

    Boil water
    1 teaspoon salt per pint
Allow to cool to luke warm
    Wash hands
    wet tissue and clean piercing
    Pat Dry thoroughly
    Apply lavender if desired

Would most piercing studios be able to pierce with a bigger gauge or would it be only specialists?

Any proper piercing studio, ie not your "Ears Pierced while you wait" sort of place, should be able to do it. Usual rules apply. Ask the questions, what equipment do they use, how do they sterilise, types of available jewellery, what is the jewellery made of(it should, in a fresh piercing, be nickle free, surgical steel is not nickle free) etc. If they can answer these questions comfortably and to your satisfaction and you feel happy, then go for it, other wise just walk away.

is it true u get really drunk off hardly any drink afterwards, iv heard loads of stories about it going straight to ur blood stream and people being unconcious after about half a can? could be rumours but sounds kinda believable, also does smoking increase changes of infection, that sounds kinda stupid when i say it out loud but...

I don't know about the alcohol part of your question. It could be true, but if it is the half a can is greatly exagerated.
Smoking causes the healing time in piercings to be increased. Because your immune Moreso in oral piercings(lip, Tongue etc)

literally everyone iv spoken to says the lightweight thing and because im going away on pretty much a 10day binge, im just a wee bit alarmed! thanks for ur help!:)

What the best thing to use for cleaning nipple piercing? Got mine done on sat but they had no solution, was supposed to go back for it but havent the time. So far just using hot water. Was told to get surgical spirits or savalon spray? had a dream my nipple fell off in shower so a bit nervous now
Also can anyone tell me how long it takes before its not sore to touch or stuff

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭LD 50

Do not use surgical spirits. Who told you that? Surgical spirits are great for other wounds, but not piercings, Not for the type of healing that is involved in forming the fistula around the jewelery. It's way too strong.

Regular sea salt solution will do the job.
    Boil a pint of water.
Put half a tsp of sea salt per pint into a glass or something
Let it cool to a comfortable temp
    Wash hands
Soak tissue paper or cotton wool in the solution and hold on the piercing for about ten mins or till the tissue has gone cold. Then soak a new one. Do this for about ten mins twice a day for about 4-6 weeks
It should stop hurting after the first week or so.

If you're planning on getting it done during this binge, it's going to bleed slot more. And will take longer to heal.

Don't use cotton wool. The fibres can come apart and stick to the piercing, and make sure you pat it dry, very dry, with paper towel, other wise do exactly as LD said. I usually find most of my piercees say that their piercings are "touch healed" in 7-10 days, ie overly sore.

The aftercare of any piercing is just as important as the act of piercing itself, so if you're on a binge, how do you expect to be able to take care of a fresh piercing. A recipe for disaster and one that will probably be blamed on the person who did the piercing in the first place.
It's like rolling around in a muddy festival field with a fresh tattoo, not a nice thought

I'm no expert, but I use half the amount of salt and it's still a little drying!

I dunno if you're talking about with tattoos or piercings, but drinking afterwards is not a good idea with either. (And drinking before hand is an even worse idea)
It will cause your blood to be thinner, and will cause you to bleed more, and most likely not be able to look after your new tattoo/piercing either.

I suggest waiting till after your '10 day binge' is over.

Ideal situation is sterile saline, not something everyone can lay their hands on, in its absence, I have, for the last 7 years that I've been a professional piercer, told my customers what I was told by my teacher, who's now been piercing for over 15 years, which is make up a saline solution. You use it to wash the wound, if you soak a piercing, the salt in the saline will adhere to the jewellery and you will be left with a dry residue. Wipe and dry thoroughly. If anyone wants I can reproduce the full aftercare sheet that I give to all of my customers.

Got a tattoo on my stomach yesterday and just wanna ask about healing.

Because of the positioning of the tattoo my pants rub off it, resulting in me wearing them really low. That's fine, but I have work tomorrow and can't really be going around with trackies slung about my arse. Would throwing on a bit of clingfilm be a god idea? Or should I just keep it slathered in Bepanthen?

Bepanthen with a bit of cling film over it

In MY opinion but not all tattoo artists or tattooed people, i change cling film twice/three times a day after washing it and a new coat of bepanthen for a few days
    again just my opinion
    Mine dont scab over then

Sterile Saline, is that what the cleaning solutions is? I actually have a few vials of that at home so will use them. And paper towels not cotton wools, got it. Great thanks a lot for your help!

I got my tragus done a while back maybe two to three months ago. Now, it's fine to sleep on etc but each morning there is still a bit of a crust on it.

How long should it take to heal or has it taken this long for anyone else.

I am still cleaning it with warm salt water.

    Thanks

If it's going to be getting rubbed by your trousers/pants/jeans/whatever then I'd follow the usual aftercare routine (Wash gently with mild antibacterial liquid soap, pat dry with kitchen paper, apply bepanthen (sparingly, not slathered!)) and then cover it with cling film. If you can get some surgical tape to hold the cling film in place, all the better. If not, masking tape can work for short periods of time. I would really recommend changing the cling film every couple of hours though, and going through the whole wash/pat dry/apply bepanthen/cling film routine each time.

When it comes to cartilage piercings, crusties are something that can happen for as long as you have the piercing, it's not something that I would worry about, particularly if it's not giving your any pain.

Cheers, did that today. I was always told to only clingfilm it for the first day, but I've never had a tattoo in an area that is so easily irritated.

Depends on what you're wearing and what you'll be doing really. If it's going to get irritated by friction from clothes, or dirt from the environment you'll be in, I think it's the best way and cleaning, treating and covering the area every few hours would help immensely!

Anywhere from €500 - €1000 depending. That's a very rough estimate and really depends on what you want, how long it takes and the studio.

Also nowhere reputable will touch you until you're 18.
