I have felt in the last 2 weeks that the calfs are a tad tender in the mornings and my thighs were really tightening up after long runs.
So i decided to get a rub down...( never in my life had one )i got the name of a fella from my butty Sungod !
Well, the pain i went through this morning was unreal...he physically beat the sh1t out of my legs...i was grimacing in pain grabbing the towel, helpless lying on the bed...
Calfs still extremely tender...

That Sungod..i always told ye he was relentless...only back a couple of days and already trying all the cheap tricks to slow me down :D

Starting my 18 week program tomorrow for Dublin...how quickly it has come around,i was looking through it yesterday, its really an 8 week program as the first couple of weeks are lower mileage than i have been doing, then i have 2 target races, those weeks will be tailored around them ( i'll still get the miles in,maybe 5/6 short on P&D's recommendation )then i am away on hols....that brings me up to late July where the next 8 weeks are where the hard work is,then i have a 3 week taper....
Looking forward to it all the same

I only have 30m to go in the 1000m challenge...i wont be sad to see the back of it.

Hi Sosa,

Question on the GSK 5 mile?
Have ya ran course before, interested to know what is like.

Looking to pick out a flat-ish course over next few weeks to see where I am for 5 miles...

Great blog by the way, best of luck in marathon training!

I'm going to be doing this one also, I'll be down in Hook that week and plan to head over. I remember Showry saying it's a fast course and a must for pbs. See you there

Yeah,i ran it last year and set a PB 32:50 ...it was a good minute of my old PB at the time, certainly one to have a right go at.
There will be a good turn out for it as people are using that one every year to try set a time for themselves...Kilmacthomas in Feb is another fast one,and the Portlaw 5 that started this year...a really fast one imo

First day of marathon training and boy was it tough.
I did the tempo a bit fast.Tergat suggested between 6:30 and 6:35 pace,based on my 4m time...i did 6:21 Pace
I felt really wobbly at the finish and light headed..i also did the last 3m to quick...around 7:30 pace...should have been slower.

Passed through the 1000m barrier at mile 11 and gave a little tiger-esque fist pump ...passer by gave me the strangest look...little did she know !

The run itself was great,as i said a above the weather was ideal..and i felt good.I brought a gel with me today as i rarely take them...they certainly work as i took it at mile 8 and had to contain myself during the next few miles...wont make a habit out of it though

I saw Tiger Woods doing a fist pump on the telly during a golf comp the other day. I presumed it was because he had just realised he had passed the 1000mile barrier on his run that morning, but maybe it was for the long putt on the final hole to win the major...

Well done on the 1000.

Week one done and dusted,i have been feeling very tired as of late,i dont know if i am telling myself i am tired or i actually am.
I am putting it down to starting the program ( possibly thinking about it to much,i presume this will pass as the weeks go by ? )because all along i have been running as i felt, now its structured.

First MP run of the program and the weather was totally against me.
Planned to go @ 9 but it was lashing, waited around until 10:30 ( much to the wifes annoyance ) when it started to brighten up,i went for it,but, alas,as soon as i hit the road, down it came again...by the bucket load.
I had 5m of monsoon type rain, then just like in the truman show...almost within 2 seconds...brightness,and sun...but that was the start of the businss end of the run as i had to finish with 8 @ 6:52p.
I mentally found this hard as i started off to slow because i could not get going after doing 5@7:28...then i started going way to fast and i had to force myself to slow down because i still had 5 to go,but got there in the end with the last 8 @ 6:43 pace ( still to fast, will have to learn to pace it better )...well pleased though.

http://connect.garmin.com/splits/7931058

I set a new PB for a half marathon along the way 1:31:50...last september i ran 1:34:40 and it nearly killed me.

Week 2 down...only 15 to go.
Mileage : 45.8

Good tipping. With 16 weeks to go you are in super shape. Pacing is fierce hard.
