unlucky Sosa, still a good first marathon though. Now you have experience on top of consistent training for the next time.

I have decided to close down this log,its being going for 11 months and i have come along way in that time.

This is a copy of my second post,it was posted on 26/11/08.

Should have probably put in my potential targets for 2009.

My current best times are :
    5m - 32:50
    10k - 41:10
    10m - 66:10
    Half marathon - 94:27

My 5m and 10k times are from the summer,so i would hope that with 6 more months of training behind me that i could better those now.
My half marathon time was in September.
My 10m time shocked me ...i was aiming for 70 mins as i only ever raced 1 10m miler previously,Ballynonty during the summer on a blistering hot day where i fell over the line in 72:50.
i just felt great on the day ...and kept my 5m pace going for as long as i could. That was mid october ....after the half i did a 16/18 run every weekend leading up to it....it really stood to me.

    Targets for 2009

    5m - 31 mins
    10k - 39 mins
    10m - 65 mins
    Half - 89 mins
    Marathon - 3:30 at worst

    Sosa

I achieved everything i set out to do,,thankfully.
    My current PB's are

    4m - 23:15
    5m - 29:33
    10k - 37:22
    10m - 64:40
Half - 89:10 ( MP run at KK half in September )
    Marathon - 3:14:16

My 10m and half times are one of the major issues i have,i should have raced one of each of those during my prep for dublin,it would have helped alot.
I think i am somewhere between 62 and 63 mins for 10m and between 83 and 84 mins for the half, but i dont have the races to prove it.

So the year and log have been a success.

I will more than likely start a mini log to monitor what i do for the half down here in 6 weeks time, probably start that next week.

Thanks to everyone who read, replied,PM'd me over the year with good wishes, advice and so on...i appreciated them all.

    Sosa Out

Its ironic that the log was entitled Help ! I cant stop running...but for the last 6.2 on Monday it was more like...Help ! I can't Run

    Hi Sosa,

    Thanks for the kind words.
This was my 3rd marathon - I previously did '83 and '08 (although it might be more correct to say they did me!). Both times I had experiences like your last 6 miles - I think you handled yours a lot better than me.

I'd love to say the pacing was the result of hugh concentration and loads of practice but that would be a lie - it just seemed to feel right on the day. Looking at the Garmin data my HR hardly varied at all, so the effort was even more steady than the pace.

I'll dig out the sub-3 support thread and post up all the technical stuff in the next week ot two, I'll like to analyse it a bit more myself - I want more days like that!

    Hi Sosa,
I had submitted my previous post before reading to the end of your thread. I just got to your post about closing down your log and I wanted to say congratulations on all the work you put into it and the way you displayed all the information - it was always clear, informative and entertaining. And thanks for providing some motivation - on the thankfully rare days when I just didn't feel like a tough session I found myself saying "ah jaysus, I better get the gear on, Sosa is probably out there banging out the 6.20 miles".
Looking forward to the next log.
