It's not very good then. Are you connected directly to your modem (not via a router)? No other internet programs currently running, except a single web browser for speedtest.net?

20MB with UPC. I have to say I'm very happy with this.

  • Registered Users Posts: 373 ✭✭curiosity

Mitchelstown exchange, and no, I've never had speeds this fast before. 2.5ish mbs would be more typical. Now I'm afraid to turn off the modem!!!

I'm on BT 3mb, least I thought I was!! Any ideas as to what's causing it?

Grrr... UPC are putting in new cables around my area and on monday they were stupid enough to drill a screw into the old cable to hold up the new ones and cutting off my nice fast internet.

    428276272.png

This is the fastest speed i have ever gotten from UPC.

As UPC continue to upgrade the cableing accross ireland this is going to be increasingly the case.

UPC when there network is fully upgraded are going to put eircom and the likes out of business.

there distinct advantage is being the only BB ISP to have a totaly separate network to Eircoms infrastructure.

Magnet do too with there fibre lines, but is very limited to certain areas.

Indeed, Remember UPC are only available in large urban areas. Magnet do have a bigger footprint than people expect, we are available (ADSL2+ up to 24Mb) in all major Irish cities.

    Cheers mate.

Yep didnt think magnet had that big a footprint, also an excellent ISP.

I feel bad for good ISPs such as smart which are unfortuntly held back by eircoms infrastructure and bad managment.

can see UPC & Magnet running away with BB in irl over the next few years, esp for high speed.

Blackrock, Co. Louth on BT 3MB connection. It's breaking my heart. Been like this for a month. Pulling my hair out with frustration.

Esat BT 24Mbit connection on the Blanchardstown exchange. My line is not suitable for higher speeds apparently.
