I was switched from Eircom's 2Mb package to BT's 24Mb offering last Friday. A Voyager 2110 router arrived this morning (I had been told by BT sales that it would arrive before the service was switched over).

I live in Navan, probably 500 metres or so from the exchange. My statistics are as follows. I do not understand most of these so comments are welcome. I am running the router from a secondary socket. BT Tech Support say that the service might be faster from the main socket. They do not want to change their settings so as to avoid the risk of disconnections. Overall I am happy with the service apart from the glitch over delivery of the router.

I had Eircom's service here for years and I could not fault the support provided. I have changed only because I feel that BT's current 24Mb offering is better value for money than Eircom's 7.6 Mb package.

No idea why but my 7 meg from Eircom only shows up at 2-5meg on speedtest.
Yet when I run a rapidshare download I consistently get apprxo 730kb/sec downloaded which is over 7 meg.
I'm beginning to think most of these speedtests are a load of rubbish.

Same here Mat, this is what I get now from speedtest on my 7.6MB with BT:

    Eircom 7mb Swords

Gone beyond a joke, snailing itself along today, not impressed at all.

And its a pity there is no clear winning alternative, with every ISP seemingly as bad as the other.

    Little bit rash?

Dad switching us over to 20mb upc next day or so.

Any feedback from swords users would be great, eircom speeds beyond a joke at this stage.

I'm on a 7.6Mb connection with UTV internet and have been monitoring the performance for a while...contention I think has something to do with the results..

I get good speed in the mornings and very late at night - Peak times 5pm-10pm seem to be awful.

Also the DSL connection goes down from time to time (at least twice a day when I'm using it - I can't mention those other times when I'm not!)
