    Today/Dodder Milltown

An Egret appears once every 4/5 months in our 'neck of the woods'( or maybe that should read in our 'stretch of the river').

Don't know why - but they are spooked quite easily- as compared to the Heron - a click of a camera from 30 metres can send them on their way:(

    Beautiful bird

I agree. I see them regularly on the Boyne but if I stop the bike to take a photo they are long gone before I get the camera out of the saddle bag.

    Thanks Hotei

I'm lucky insofar as I am retired and have plenty of time on my hands- also I live 20 metres from the Dodder

For instance yesterday I just covered 500 metres but got great shots of the LTT, that Heron and Cormorant , the 'hybrid' wagtail .. and then as a bonus I spotted the Egret. Hid behind a tree and stood watching and taking pics for 1 hour:)

Today I stood in the same spot near home for 2 hours- the 2 Dippers are still courting and she is still playing hard to get:pac:( will stick a video up later on the video thread.)

My fav from today.. they just love water..

BTW I realise I'm taking up far too much 'airtime' here so am going to give you all a break until the new year

If you like you can keep tabs on this flickr link

It's hard to keep up with the mating rituals of the Dipper as it seems to happen over a long time and a lot of territory ... but this pic( hour of waiting) gives a glimpse of the male trying.. with the female turning her back

Behold the utter futility of capturing a kingfisher diving for fish on a crappy phone!

I know you have an habitual problem with my posts and always append rolled eyes when referencing me but I still don't think its a Horsetail, as the ribs are fanned, or convergent, while Calamities consistently run parallel.

But, look, it's just an opinion.

Robin, Blackbird and Blue Tit - the top three species in Birdwatch Ireland's winter Garden Bird Survey almost every single year! This year's survey starts on Monday - see the blog post here for more info: https://birdscount.blogspot.ie/2017/11/irish-garden-bird-survey-201718.html

I took these three pictures today at East Coast Nature Reserve in Newcastle, Wicklow!

I went to look for otters to the Dodder, and found a seal!

This was between the Aviva and Ballsbridge

Saturday was interesting in the Dodder, I didn's see the otters but in addition to the seal got to see and photograph all the others you usually look for: kingfishers and even a sparrowhak.

However, the heron is the one that caught my attention for longer

One from this morning- Cormorant giving itself a 'bath'

There were 2 of these kingfishers moving in close proximity - with the occasional 'flypast' today. Probably too early for any mating initiatives- but great to see them

No, it's an older image. Just going back through some files.

Nice bumping into Bernard today, along the Dodder.

No otters, but a show of kinfishers and a bad record shot of a sparrowhawk that got the little birds very agitated.
