That's a really superb set of photos- I know I'm a bit biased in the kingfisher direction.. and your photo there is a real winner

    Thanks keps.
I went back today to see if I could get a closer shot, but there wasn't a sign of it about unfortunately. I spotted it on a small artificial lake, a place I wouldn't have expected to see one, so it was a lovely surprise. I'd love to get a cracking close-up of one. I very much envy the shots you get regularly. :)

Went for a stroll along the dodder with Gzoladz today. We were lucky enough to spot a kingfisher in flight and briefly perched – but unfortunately were unable to get any photos.

We did spot a pair of Dippers(Cinclus cinclus hibernicus)in what appeared to be a type of courtship ritual .

Lovely morning walk today Keps and the Dodder never fails to deliver.

Very interesting article about the Red Admiral. When I was a kid adults used to tell us that butterflies lived just one day for some reason!

Update from the farm. Went up to farm for a long weekend of work. First photo- my wild bird seed crop of triticale/kale/mustard has done well. A flock of linnet were busy feeding away. Hopefully some twite will find it. A flock of chough ( probably 2 adults and 4 young) were checking out my nest box in the old ruined mansion beside the farm. They abandoned the site years ago, but with chough nest box, hopefully they will return. Very exciting to see the chough landing on ruin and roosting for the night!!!! Will have to be careful that jackdaws don't take the nest box. Second photo: Cleared rank growth from behind my fence beside the sea. Can't mow with tractor so cut grass/iris/hogweed by hand. Cock corncrake was seen running out that patch during, important that it is cut to prevent the grass smothering the hogweed. Pre-sprayed another patch of meadow for nettles that will be planted in Spring. Last picture: nettle bed I planted in Spring, mowed on October 7th. The dense nettle killed most of grass that grew on it, so that is why it appears mostly brown. With warm weather some nettles starting to sprout.WP_20161031_09_33_22_Pro.jpgfree photo hosting

I wondered likewise. There's one in Mayo and Antrim.
