Yes she was down by Broad lough house northern end of the lough.

Thanks Bernard so you would recommend the house side rather than the sea side of the louch then?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,424 ✭✭✭bernard0368

Yeah, she seems to prefer that side, she supposedly caught the fish by the bridge and few down. This morning if you go right to the gate of the house she was perched on tree to your 11.

Some of you may remember a discussion ( initiated by Gustavo) about the possibility of a hybrid Wagtail in Milltown, Dublin

The bird went missing for 5/6 months but has returned in the last few days:

Update from the farm. Got the silage done on Tuesday. Usually mow in middle of September, any late corncrake chicks old enough for mowing then. With the very wet weather had to wait till Tuesday (3rd October) to mow. I was eager to check for evidence of corncrake breeding, after I heard a hen corncrake calling chicks in July. Hen corncrake generally nest within 100m of a calling male so needed to check where the two males were calling during summer (two larger nettle beds, kale and the hogweed patch). Was checking the north nettle bed when a juvenile corncrake flew up from my feet. He flew around 150m down to the end of the nettle bed, with the long legs dangling and the bright red patches on wings very noticable. I nearly dropped dead with the sight. Most corncrake have already left for Africa, the adult calling males leave in August while the second brood chicks will leave as late as the end of the first week in October. This lad was probably from the second brood of chicks.
Unfortunately due to heavy rain I was not able to mow my fen. Fen was mowed last autumn and since it does not get any fertiliser it has only a light crop on it. I will try and get some light grazing for it.
No sign of my Twite on this visit, but left out some supplementary budgie feed for them. Was discussing seed crops for Twite with RSPB and they recommend fodder raddish for Twite, so will sow some next May for them.

Bwi requested an adn test of the droppings of the test last year, I forwarded them keps video last week and they said they will come back to me.

IF I here anything back from them I will advise. It looks like a Pied but behsves like a Grey.

Thanks Gustavo for keeping tabs on this.

It was you who spotted the oddity in the 'grey' wagtail pics I posted( and picking up on other info you had) and I have to say 'well done' to you for following it through with BWI
