So 2 small 100mm fans will outperform a bigger 200mm fan?
Interesting... I'll try remember that for the next time I buy a case (years from now no doubt).

2 x 120mm! Basically it's more to do with fact they are separate, but generally speaking two fans will always out perform a bigger one. Really comes down to their quality.

    Noctua wins everytime!

But in general are larger fans spinning slowly far less noisy?

Thought 1 large fan running slow would do the same as smaller fans running fast.

You've three things to consider with Fans - noise, air Flow and static pressure.

It will be very different for different fans - even if they are the same size - let alone different sizes.

I'm a fan of Noctua but, the new Corsair Series fans look to be better. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11TIfocssvY&feature=g-user-c

No, I have two 200mm fans in my case atm, and they make only marginally less noise than if I had more, smaller fans. The air flow is godawful, too. Honestly, get two 120/140mm fans instead of a 200mm or larger fan.

Are you comparing the same model/series in different sizes though?

Why a full tower? Why not a midi tower?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,540 ✭✭✭freeze4real

I dont want ot take any chances of my motherboard whch size is 305MM BY 211 wont the case.

It will, it's a standardized form factor. It's actually meant to fit ;).

You only need a midi tower - Merc beta is about €30 from HWVS - delivery is €19 though.

So are you saying that any ATX moherboard will a mid tower case.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,224 ✭✭✭Procrastastudy

Yes ATX boards fit in any ATX case. Full towers are used for water-cooling setups or if you have more Porn (and more HDDs) than God.

    Closest I could find: http://www.komplett.ie/Komplett/product/midi_tower/20068994/thermaltake_v4_black_edition_mid_tower_no_psu/details.aspx

    Thanks you very much.

Now I can order a case.

would avoid the v4 if your sensitive to noise, the case fan is extremely loud

Edit: Try and add a tener to your budget and get this:

    http://www.komplett.ie/Komplett/product/midi_tower/20088073/antec_one_hundred_midi_tower_nopsu/details.aspx

has two good quite case fans rather then one loud one on the v4
or this if you don't want to wait for the one hundred to come back into stock:

    http://www.komplett.ie/Komplett/product/midi_tower/15354717/antec_three_hundred_midi_tower_no_psu/details.aspx

it's very simular to the one hundred but it dosn't have a painted interior and has less cable management features

I have added another Noctua fan so I have an added intake fan.

This is great because it means I have an intake fan pulling cold air in without the added heat from the hard drives.

It also gets air directly to the graphics card and overall adds more airflow to the case. So temps should be down throughout the case.

Need to get mounts to thread the cabling through and make things neater, but its a lot better than it was.

    J9DMB.png

Screens are at different heights btw as the 22 is on a custom adapter so isnt centred on the VESA. I did it this way as in the future I'll probably end up with two identical screens(probably not two of those dells though) and moving the mounts would then mean redrilling the walls and making a heap more dust, not ideal.

Looks like a sweet setup man.

I agree though, it does look like Michael J Fox smoked about 20 Js in that room with the windows closed, then took the picture.

Apologies if that offends anyone :pac:

    Turns out you're right.
Flash was set to constant off(didn't even realise), so the exposure time and my unsteady hand caused the nice effect

    Ok I'll Bite :D

Inspired by the L3p desk I decided to build my own pc desk as well, I know this has been done a few times before But I had to have one so I built one to my own design. :D

Here's some pics from when I was fitting the parts.

    Side View:

Where the Rad and PSU live (plus nice view of the desk top):

Installing Quick Decouplers in the loop:

    Closer Look at the Reservoir:
    c7b33ca4a38611e19e4a12313813ffc0_6.jpg

Its still a work in progress but currently in use, I am adding components as I go.

    Base specs are:

    cpu: i7 960
Ram: corsair 4GB sticks X6 (24GB total ram) currently 9-9-9-24 but will be changing timings shortly to get the most out of the ram.
    MotherBoard: Asrock x58
Harddrive(s): 128gb M4 ssd + some old 300GB drive I had from an old machine.
GPU: Saphire 6950 2GB with shader switch :D (not the best card out there but not the worst either)

I use the machine mostly for Dev work hence the stupid amount of Ram, getting into pc gaming a little so will upgrade the GPU when I need to, right now BF3 is fine on it so its more than I need.

Boot time at stock settings is 31 seconds :D
