Got letter today. Failed due to a decade old injury. Will be appealing straight away. Does anyone know the timescale from when they receive your appeal information

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Help & Feedback Category Moderators Posts: 9,790 CMod ✭✭✭✭Shield

Timescales depend on you and what evidence you can produce to persuade them you are fit for service. You will need to spend money on specialist reports for an appeal. You usually get around a month to either lodge your appeal or give them notice that you intend to appeal. Feel free to PM me if you wish to discuss this privately.

check the info that came out with your med forms, there is a section on appeals, time scale is listed in there, not at home so can't check for you,but ten days springs to mind, don't know wether that is your appeal lodged and dealt with, get on the ball though, everyday will be precious i'd say

Would anyone have any advice or information on the medical and smoking? Can it have an adverse affect on the outcome? I have my medical next week and need to know if i should cut down drastically on cigarettes a.s.a.p

The only thing it could compromise would be your lung function test, but if you have told them your a smoker and have been accurate with how much you should be ok. There are different levels for non smokers light smokers and heavy smokers etc. Cutting down is a good thing anyway but probably won't make much of a difference in a week.

As far as my own appeal goes guys, I went to my GP today and found out that the condition OHW failed me for is not a condition I have. It's quite complicated but it seems that there are 2 conditions that afffect this area of the body I have one (which is not at all serious) andfrom the evidence given at the time OHW seem to think I have the more serious one. Hoping a letter from my GP should sort the confusion out:)

So are medicals still going ahead? I passed ist and ac, recieved the standard letters from deloitte yet no word on vetting or medicals.

Is it safe to say I won't be getting a medical or start vetting until the freeze is lifted??

    Thanks

yes this is c16 , if your vetting has cleared then basically means your just waiting on your phone call to start but with the freeze and whatever your merit placing would depend on when your call will be but great news if vetting has cleared as your done and in the pool to be selected

zzz101z- dont wanna freak ya out pm'ed ya there we might have talked to same person only reason vetting was going on for so long was he is a full time reserve

no vetting is separate from medical and can vary some people had theirs cleared in 3 months other people are waiting over 12months

you need to email vetting department to find the status or i think you can ring external appointments and ask.

Yes there is a few people on here who have completed both vetting and medical and basically waiting for a date to be announced and the freeze has slowed everything down

zzz101z- yea my worries of being a higher bmi was followed by a low intake diet and alot of working out to drop over stone to get me there :)

Why would vetting take so long for a full time reserve? I thought if anything it would have went through quicker because he would have to have some kind of vetting in place for the reserves? No?

Hi folks, quick question about the PCA Test. Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I can find very little mention of this test, when do applicants have to take this test. is it during the medical? Thanks

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Help & Feedback Category Moderators Posts: 9,790 CMod ✭✭✭✭Shield

You don't officially do it until the end of the training in week 19. You get to do it in week 2 to see how fit you are, and again a few times throughout the course. If you fail it in week 2 you are given a training program to follow to help you prepare for it next time. It's not a requirement to pass it to be offered a place in Garnerville. Unusual - yes, but that's just how it is.

Glad my medical is over now and my crash diet and rough work outs seen me below 30 :) so hope I have done enough to pass my medical

Also the ftr that I mention said vetting took longer as they check and investigate every report/complaint he's had against him :s
