Not requesting question info. Just numbers and time for completion strategy.

Timing is one of the main elements for the IST, If there were no time limits it would be easy enough to complete but the time aspects are what makes it. As i said in my earlier post details of the test are not allowed to be discussed such as time limits and number of questions. Also it could change from the way it was in previous years and someone could end up telling you wrong times and wrong number of question.

Bow Runner the best advice i can give you and probably anyone is just time yourself with what you are using to practice. Select a time limit, a number of questions and try and answer them in your time limit. Good luck.

Did you find the book useful Johannes?

It's ok, it has advice and prep info for assessment centre roleplays but obviously these will be different as it's aimed at English police forces. I suppose any extra prep and info can only help and for £2 it isn't too much of a loss if it turns out to be useless.

Is the numerical part in that link not different to that in the IST?

Go with the example questions provided by Deloitte, these are what the IST is like

    Hello,

I just thought I'd post to require: Is there Anyone on this that has taken the IST RECENTLY? If so, is there anything that you can say (as vague as possible due to the 'don't talk about it' policy) in relation to:
    the similarities to previous years;
    difficulty/challenging aspects to it;
    or anything else worth noting?

Permitted that they are allowed to say

*enquire.. Still getting used to editing posts.

    Apologies guys

I done mine last year but I done it the year or a few years ago too and it was the same format. I would just work through the examples they give you for practice and as long as you know what your doing you'll be fine

Basically is it the same as the last few years? Anyone know this? Fair enough thats not overly intrusive question?

The practice test is pretty much the only help available and reflects the skills/abilities required in the the real test. No one here will be able to provide much more information on the IST without violating the 'no talk' rule. It sucks that there's not more help available, but not much can be done about it.

Just keep practicing and you'll be fine. Goodluck.

Its pretty much not the only resources available, there are loads out there that are much more helpful than what has been supplied, also there are resources provided by coaching type companies that provide a lot of help in regards to these IST tests for police recruitment. Also why were there be a no talk rule on an open forum. There has been no open questions as to things like timings, structure or answers to the questions. There should be a no talk rule for you Johannes_Cabal :D

Some people on here have asked for timings and the structure of the IST and recruitment warn you at the test not to talk about what is on and in the IST hence the no talk rule.

I would be fairly sure if you phoned Deloitte they would tell you the structure is the exact same as the practice test only longer and harder and the timmings are also similar in relevance.

I think what they mean is dont put up questions or in detail discuss the test, but i cant see how it would help anyone knowing the timing of any one section. (i can safely say this as i know them from previous)

I wouldnt worry to much about upsetting anyone because they dont worry to much about you when you have passed everything they have required of you but waste your time for a year and tell you to apply to the next recruitment process.

Does it bother anyone else that they have said they are strapped for cash but yet they will have another recruitment process when they have only exhausted about 30% (If even that)of the previous merit list?

Fair enough, my response was only what I have gathered from completing the IST a couple of times.
you mention other resources and companies but you can't be certain of how helpful the other resources are as

    1. They aren't recommend by Deloitte or the PSNI.
    and
    2. These types of company aren't there to help you, they are there to make a profit.

With regards to the no talk rule. This forum isn't associated with either Deloitte or the PSNI, so the fact it is an open forum has no bearing on the rules they impose on you.

It is also there to ensure everyone has the same chance of success by preventing candidates discussing the contents of the test, however little it may be.

In addition to the above, most people seem to forget that you're all competing against each other. Even if someone was in a position to show you the answers to all the questions, they'd be reducing their own chances of success in doing so.

The content of the IST is also intellectual property. If someone managed to sneak a picture of the paper and post it on here, Boards.ie Limited would be sued to the moon for crazy money. The same goes for posting the questions in text form from memory, or any portion thereof.

Let's get this back on topic, please and thanks.

I feel partly responsible for this getting out of hand.

Apologies folks. Genuinely just wanted an idea on similarities in regards to previous years.

The IST is hard. It's always been hard and I'm sure it always will be. In the many times that I've taken the test, passed and failed for various campaigns, it hasn't changed much. Good luck!

Yea I'd agree on that mate. Its tough going so I'd wish everyone the best of luck and do as many related practice tests possible to get the brain trained as best you can.

I found the IST the hardest part of the whole selection process but then I suppose it's different for everyone. I bet some people sailed through it!

I agree hardest part for sure in my opinion. Designed to instantly cut half the people going for the job out of the process. Brutal.

There are people in my squad who got like 70-71/75 which is mental lol. I passed it and just about.

Good luck to anyone doing it, bloody glad I'm not having to do it again and hopefully never will!!
