Keith just to let you know it's not how quick you apply for the competition that decides what batch you qualify in, it's actually on your result that you get in the aptitude test. Once you register with publicjobs everyone who applies gets invited to sit the aptitude test. Good Luck anyways

Think your a bit mixed up pinkstar, Places for Apt test are "First come first serve", therefore this ultimately decides what batch you fall into. (Assuming the applicant is successful at stage one). Im open to correction:D

the quicker you apply the more chance you have of getting in batch 1 or 2 etc. usually 3 or 4 batches. after doing the apptitude test you are then ranked on how well you did. So if you finish top of batch 1 in the apptitude test you will get called for interview first. ahead of those in batch 4 for example. hope this makes sense!!

Can anyone tell me, at what stage do you know you can actually say for sure that you'll be becoming a trainee? As far as I can see it'd be after the interview (medical and physical exams for any job are essentially a formality for most in my view), but obviously I've never been through the process before.

Also, can anyone who has been through the interview tell me when you find out whether or not you've passed it?

You can't say for sure that you will be a trainee until you have that letter/ email in your hand to ask to to report to Templemore for your first day of training.
After interview stage, you not only have medical and physical (which many people fail for one reason or another) you also have background checks, interviews with your local Sergeant and Superintendant- either of whom could recommend that you're not right for the job. Dont take any stage of the process for granted. You could fall at any hurdle, and assumption is the mother of all f*** ups.

The results of the interview come out within 2 weeks provided there is no issues regarding qualification recognition. I think I got my letter after 10 days. I will never forget that day as long as I live :D

This was exactly my point devil08, ultimately the faster you book Apt test the better. Now this might not count for someone with a large family especially with relatives living abroad obviously this will hinder background checks. After that it is your results your ranked on. So it is quiet possible for someone who booked Apt test after you, but did better in the test to be placed ahead of you.

I'd say the phone lines will be crazy the day they open for booking the aptitude test.

Definitely agree with your point regarding background checks. I have checks being done for the Garda Reserve at the moment and people who applied long after me have started training already. This seems to really slow down the process if you have a big family.

If you have a qualification other than the leaving cert and they have to be sent away to be certified as equivalent to the leaving cert it can take a good while to come back as far as I can remember from people talking about it on here. I have no first hand experience of it so cant give a definite time line but I remember it delayed the interview results for some people.

Sorry guys Blue Belle is totally right I don't know what I was thinking! Ignore what I said! Think I was away with the fairies! I applied for my aptitude actually sat it the last day it was on but was still in batch 2!

    Hi guys,

Does anyone know if Aptitude tests can be found anywhere on the Net ? I find the courses and Home Study packs a little expensive....€200 odd.

Also are the tests similar to the Fire Brigade?

    Cheers

    Hi folks,

To clarify the comments on wheather getting tested in Batch 1 ...or 100 is relevant...it is not. When you sit the exam all batches are scored together using scanners and an overall result is produced to determine the overall placings (know as a OOM / order of merit). It is based on this pass result which determines when (and if) you are called for interview. For example the top 150 persons in the OOM are likely to be called for interview initialy and depending on the interview pass rate more may be called from 151 onwards. If more requests are submitted by An Garda to have more persons trained then more persons are called from the OOM and so on.

Good luck to anyone applying. Publicjobs are on Facebook and have an announcement there also about the Guards.

I had heard that around the time I sat my aptitude test but when I got my results I think some people had yet to sit the test, so I figured my placement was where I came in my batch rather than the whole competition...
Anyway, I could be wrong. :o

    Hi Blue Bell,

Sometimes there is a delay in getting all the results out (sheer volume) and results are issued over a week or two. However all results are based on the overall OOM.

Good luck with the application for the Garda!

No the aptitude test number you are given is the place you came in the country and the whole comp.

So the lower then number the better.

I must stress folks......practice!! You really need to come within the first 500.....!!!

    Hi there,

I am sure you are sick in the face already hearing about this, but i was just wondering if you had a ball park date (roughly) as to when the campaign would be opening for the above mentioned please ??
I am just looking for a rough estimate, as to plan holidays etc. I do have the job alert set-up.

    thanks

I'd imagine that the week after the Leaving Cert finishes the AGS recruitment campaign will begin.

If recruitment is about to start again, then we should be able to expect an open day in Templemore sometime around Setember/October hopefully

    Hi all,

For info the same advert has appeared in the Irish Time this morning. However to clarify there is a small news item on the front page by the Crime Correspondent referring to the Garda "Advertisement". Just to clarify some questions which have come into the office this morning; the Garda notice is to encourage interested persons to register with Publicjobs.ie. By registering with the site you have NOT made an application for the Garda competition. This can only be made once the competition goes live.

Please remember that if you are registering with Publicjobs.ie only use ONE email address. If you enter two email addresses, in the same email field, the system will not issue you a notification. Also it maybe helpful to ensure you put @publicjobs.ie on your safe list to avoid any message being blocked by anti-spam ware.

    Hope this helps

    Regards
    Ger

Also read in the times that the all new recruits will be doing the new syllabus in Templemore and will undergo psychological evaluation as part of interview.
Nothing about any of the other recommendations

    what does this entail?

Probably involves lying on a couch and being asked all sorts of intimate questions by a guy with a goatee beard such as '' did you ever want to sleep with your Mother / Father / Cousin , etc '' :D

Only kidding of course - TBH I wouldn't have a clue what it entails

Hey Folks good to hear things have started moving along :)
I'm currently planning on resitting my leaving cert next year in order to gain the grades needed to join the guards im wondering will or can i apply for this drive considering i dont have the grades needed (yet)
I'm currently doing my ecdl and have completed my first aid course i'm considering doing a life saving course as i feel these will all be requirements this time around in order to narrow down the amount of people applying.
    any advice would be fantastic.
    Thanks

You need to have the required grades in your leaving cert to apply. You have to bring in your actual certificate the day you sit the aptitude test. Good luck with it.

they cant just put in the recommendations this time round they would have to give people notice in order to get them. an annoncement would have been made in the media that they were requirements now surely?

I was thinking this too. But I think I'll ere on the side of caution and go ahead with the Occu First Aid for starters anyway. Wouldn't hurt your chances..
