From now on, how about this...only post about updates on recruitment when you hear something official, rather than rumour and hearsay as it's helping no one folks! :)

To be fair, this forum is built on rumours and hearsay!!! It's about people telling others what they heard or believe will happen.

If we all wanted to hear something official we'd look on the public jobs web-site, the garda website or even the dept of justice webiste.

Keep the rumours and hearsay coming I say!!!

That's very true, once information is given in good faith with the concession that it may or may not be true, and the information may or may not change.

Well keep in mind there are people out there(myself included) who want reliable information, not rumours. This forum is not built on rumours and hearsay, it was built on experience..even if rumours and hearsay are commonplace it doesn't mean they help anyone.

In all fairness all you would have to do is to look at Page#1 of the Garda Recruitment Archived thread to know what you say is not completely true or even accurate. That thread along with these sectioned threads are set up and designed for people who have been there before and are willing and feel able to share their experience and expertise with those who have not and who wish to go through the process.

It is true that if people wanted to hear something official they look at your afore-mentioned websites but people look onto these threads to find that extra piece of knowledge and information that they feel could possibly help them in their own recruitment process.

You will always, with information websites like Boards.ie, always find people who will post information that they know to not be the entire truth; to be what they wish were the truth; what they want others to believe is the truth ... but not everyone!

It is to some extent about "It's about people telling others what they heard or believe will happen. " and their are some like myself who have only posted what they knew in good faith; what was the case at that point in time. Any ES member will tell you circumstances change and the budget will be allocated & changed as and when the need arises and resources are required. That will all impact on recruitment.

So to be fair this forum was not built on rumours and hearsay but it does play a role and always will, be it good; bad or indifferent

    *okay rant over*

    Apologies,

I obviously didn't mean that items which are blatently wrong or misleading be posted, but it would also be wrong to wait to wait until a fully official announcement has to be made.

On a side note, even though alot of what has been said on this thread has, with hind-sight, turned out to be inaccurate, I have always found it helpful and inciteful.

    hi guys,

new to this site and have to say quite alarmed after reading some of your posts. i decided the gardai was for me back in Sep 2008 and have registered on publicjobs.ie since. i dont think there is anymore we can do but wait, is there???
just to fill you in on what i heard....my friend heard from his local politician, who is pretty high up, that the gardai will not be advertising any new positions but will instead recruit from previous unsuccessful applicants. i was shocked but found this very hard to believe tbh. i have since been talking to a friend of the family who has been in the force for 25 yrs and asked him if he knew anything. he said they have to advertise to the public, doesnt know when it will be but reckons feb/march and that the numbers will be 400 max. i think we will all get to rapply and after that its everyone for themselves really!!
im not trying to spread rumours or anything, i want this as much as the rest of you. just thought id add what i have heard!

    Hi Guys!

God everyone must be so sick of the wait :( I myself failed the last time Nov 2007! Missed out on the May campagne because didnt get results til June! Anyway was told Sep/ Nov/ Jan and now people are sayin Feb. With the current economic downturn can u imagine the amount of applicants goin to apply this yr!!! Its goin to be a long wait, but if u really want it u will get there:) I cant wait and am praying to God it wil open soon and ill get there eventually!!! Recruitment campagne is a joke so hard but I suppose they want the best...

  • Registered Users Posts: 28 joanne30

The wait is very hard but in the end it will be worth it. It gives us a bit more time to prepare, considering the job situation in this country there will be thousands going for the same few places advertised. So from now on Im going to keep doing what Im doing reading, reading and more reading.
Has anyone done the 1 day course, if so how did they find it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 76 ✭✭Mun23

Ya Joanne true alright gives us more time, but its just such a long process wil be 2010 before we get in thats if we are lucky! Im withered from the whole thing!!! Lets hope Feb :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 28 joanne30

I realy know that feeling, I'm thirty now so I realy need to get in this year the process takes so long. So thirty five isn't to far away.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28 joanne30

How did you find it the first time, what have you done to prepare yourself this time?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 76 ✭✭Mun23

Failed the aptitude, I would go to somebody who specialises in aptitude testing and preparation!!! Get some books and practice the tests timing urself. Is it ur 1st time applying?

  • Registered Users Posts: 28 joanne30

Yeah this is my first time, canceled it last year I know I might live to regret it.
I've got some great books I'll send the names of them by pm if your interested.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 692 ✭✭✭i-digress

When the economy was strong and recruitment was regular from what i can gather Febuary was a designated Month for a drive to begin, just wondering is this closer to the end of the month or the start, Also from the date that the campaign begins how long does it stay open for, and from the day it closes approximately how long untill aptitudes start,

I'm having a bad day. It's the uncertainty. If I knew the next recruitment drive wouldn't be until January 2010, at least I'd know!!!This is driving me crazy. February is going to be a loooong month. And publicjobs might not even email!!!

Sorry guys, I needed to vent!

You think thats bad, imagine having everything done and just waiting on the call. Will have to be April or something before we hear anything and thats only if the May intake is happening :)
