Just posted up my measurements in my log. Last week was a bit all over the shop, so the challenge is only really starting in earnest this week. I did a good shop over the weekend and have plenty of the right foods for the lunches during the week, and I've plans to up the training significantly now because it's been at a standstill for the last few weeks. I've no distractions for the next 7 weeks so no excuses, it's starts here for me now!

Hope everyone is getting on well with theirs, I'm a little late starting this time round.

I've been struggling with disciple and a cough recently, got back into it with a game of indoor football on Wednesday, but 5 minutes from the end I sprained my ankle. :(
Don't know how long that's going to keep me out for, has anyone had any experience with a sprained ankle? Any advice?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,111 ✭✭✭joker77

Yea unfortunately I had loads of experience of sprained ankles!
Did you ice it? Would have kept the swelling down.

How bad is it to walk on now?

Before going back playing get a support, think the ones in the chemist should be fine.

If it's ok to walk on start doing strengthening exercises - very simple to do. Just stand on an uneven surface (like a pillow maybe) on 1 leg and try to balance. Once you've got your balance right, then try it with your eyes closed. Do this for a few minutes a couple of times a day, and after a couple of weeks you'll have really strengthened up the auld ankle so should go over on it so easily again.

Down 1.8 Kgs between Measurement Day 1 and 2, which was 6 days. Pretty happy with that, want to keep it up now for 6 more weeks.

    Great idea g'em.

I was in a car accident a while back and unfortunately have been unable to go to the gym. I just started playing footy again so I really want to shape up.

My goals will be to loose fat and add a half a stone of muscle.
I dont have my measurements but im 5ft10 and 11 stone but quite skinny.

I play football twice a week and will only be able to go to the gym twice a week due to work requirements. My diet has never been a problem but the pints on the weekend will be my main obstacle, but im really up for it.

Does anybody know of any beginner races coming up in the next while like the couch to 5k one?

Alright I'm also in cant hurt,

I'm 21 stone and 6ft 6Inch, Needless to say in awful shape. Just joined the gym last week so hopefully turning the old life around and so on.

Ya need any other info then that? don't really have any measurements.

Measurement day 3 just done here, have lost 1.2Kgs this week so that makes it 3 kilos in the last 2 weeks. Again pretty happy with that, makes the hard work seem worthwhile! Waist has come down from 95 to 91.5 in the 2 weeks, and hips from 105.5 to 103.5 - if I can get another few cms of that and fit into a pair of jeans that I couldn't before I started I'll be well chuffed!

Measurement day 3 tomorrow, can't see myself having lost the same as the last 2 weeks, but hopefully it's nearly a kilo!

How's everyone else getting on? Gone fairly quiet round here lately ;)

There's nothing worse, especially when you have the motivation to do something and you just can't because you're not feeling well. Hopefully you can finally shake off the chest infection, I know from years of bronchitis as a kid it's not easy sometimes.

Measurement day 4 just done for me, all in my log again. Very surprised to have lost another 1.7 kgs this week, wasn't expecting that much. That's 4.7 Kgs in 3 weeks, with another 4 weeks to go. Hoping to keep focused for the remaining 4 weeks, it's been hard sometimes not going out for a few pints at the weekends, but I know that if I really want to see improvements then that's what has to be done. Besides, November is usually a quieter month so it should be easier to keep the head down!

Wow Jocker you doin great. I havent been great the past couple of weekends. Weekdays have been fine and then the weekends just a all over the place. Gym has been fine, havent had a chance to log all my workouts. But this week I will get back on track and get stuck in its around 8 weeks left now till xmas so there is plenty I can do in that time. !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,182 ✭✭✭Tiriel

I've been bold and have fallen off the wagon! But.. I have been making myself cycle to work every day - no more busses - so it's a minimum of 8km a day. At least it's something.. no measurements have been done :o and I suppose I should weigh myself just to stop myself having that sneaky biscuit that has crept in.

8 weeks to Christmas - oh dear - it is time to cop on now alright. Must get back into the gym, have missed almost 3 weeks now. Shelling out membership and not using it is just a disgrace!!!!

Hey just took my first Weight there since I started down from 305 to 287 today.
Been swiming 3 times a week and cut out the junk/mass eating.
Feeling good, Fell off the wagon so to speak three times in the last 3 weeks by getting a burger afer few drinks.

Added one of those ticker things too, looks pretty :):)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,111 ✭✭✭joker77

All quiet again - how's everyone doing?

My weight loss evened out last week, only lost 0.2 Kgs which is nothing really.

I'm still off the drink, which I'm finding tough at the this stage. I've got this weekend and next weekend to get through - my challenge will officially finish on the 27th - I've an American friend who's having a Thanksgiving party, and the food that will be put on for that is not to be missed! And a few drinks shall be had.......

I was feeling very drained at the start of the week, just didn't have the 'get up and go' needed for the gym, only starting to feel myself again today. Hopefully I can push on and get 2 more good solid weeks in, before the debauchery that is going to be December!!! :D

It has got so quiet on here. I havent been logging much as I have been really busy in work at the moment. So I hope everyone is doing well.

Joker you are doing really well. Well done so far.

Well its going ok for me so far as in diet and training! Havent really seen much change though ? Havent weighed myself in a while so will do in the gym in the morning.

Every weekend now I have something on so I am going to have to be extra careful all week to allow myself for these events. Im also off to dubai on 28th dec so its bikini time for me soon aswell

    Thanks for the support!

Off to Dubai for New Years eh? Nice one! The beach holiday is always a little bit of an incentive isn't it! I'm off to Thailand for 3 weeks in mid-January, so after my challenge is finished at the end of November, I'm going to switch my training around and hopefully do more cardio to try to keep those Christmas pounds from piling on!

    Nice one,

I decided Rather stupidly that I'm going to run A Marthon or Half Marathon in the summer so thats my incentive going on hols then first week of august. Down to 279 today going good. Fell off the wagon a little last weekend, christmass coming up though so if I come out the other end around the same weight it'll be a major victory.

Fair play - keep it up! Christmas is a real test alright, it's always hard not to put on a few pounds

I took a 3 week break from Boards, in which time I've been training at least 3 nights a week (rugby [mostly fitness and conditioning] and soccer) with some cycling, informal indoor soccer and plenty of walking. I made little change to my diet (switched from weetabix to porridge for breakfast, but still enjoying a lot of chocolately snacks) but have been drinking a bit less.

In my opinion my upper body is really starting to firm up, and even my thighs are starting to look more toned (I've always had goalkeeper's thighs :D). I'm still at least half a stone above "perfect" weight, but I know I've gained a little bit of muscle mass.

All in all, I'm gradually approaching the targets I envisaged a few months ago :)

    Hey all,

Just a quick update had another good week this week, Starting runing again prob for the first time in maybe 4 years. Doing 1.5m 3 nights a week along with the swiming, Down to 274lbs now so I think i'm starting to see a difference.

I'd like ta thank everyone for their help so far, I dont post alot but I take notes from any relevent threads that might help.

Measurement day 7 just done and put into my log. Had a good week training wise this week, and it showed in the measurements - down 0.8 Kgs this, which brings it to 5.3 Kgs over the 7 weeks. I'll be officially finishing this coming Thursday, but I think I'll still probably keep tracking the measurements for my own benefit.

I started off @ 86.7Kgs, and I thought I could get under the 80, but that's not going to happen this time. Am happy overall with the progress though - 1 of the main aims for me for doing this was to stay off the drink because I'd been smoking every time I was drinking, which I wanted to knock on the head. And also to lose the bit of flab I was carrying round the mid-section, which is mostly gone. There's still a bit there alright, but that last bit is just impossible to shift! (For me anyway, @ 31 years of age I think it would take longer than 7/8 weeks!!!)

Well I am still in, training 3 cardio and 3 weight days a week. Been a bit mental recently so no logging. Weight is coming off is a bit slowly lol
