    HI,

I hope there isn't too obvious an answer to this question but I have studied g'em's sticky (it is so concise it could be published!) long and hard and am in week one of my own challenge.

I am so, so, so thirsty and though I am drinking a few litres of water a day its just not cutting it. Is there something else I can have that's (off a shop shelf) not loaded with sugar or artificial sweetners? I was looking today and I'm pretty sure Lucozade etc. will fall under the junk food bracket. Orange juice makes me even thirstier I know, so not going for juices........

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and may I say that your logs and journals are an inspiration and a great support.

    Keep up the good work!

PS - I don't add salt to my food!

Sparkling water is something I've start to drink as an alternative to still. It has that little bite that's missing from normal water. Might be worth thinking about. And it's absolutely AMAZING when added to some Robinsons no sugar orange cordial.

Sparking water + Copella Apple Juice + a load of ice = big time thirst quencher :)

Both great ideas. Adding a small amount of regular juice to water to give it a bit of a kick is absolutely fine. Personally I love adding some lemon and lime wedges to boiled water that's been let cool off - when it gets back to room temp it's really easy to drink and very refreshing.

Alternatively you can get some lovely fruit teas - make up the tea but cool it in the fridge and add ice - calorie free but tastes great!

These are all great ideas that I will try out, sound like they will definitely do the trick!

Thanks so much for your replies!

Hey folks, I've been coming and going all summer, kept up the running and healthy diet (mostly) and now I'm launching myself back into a proper, harder routine, so I've created a fitness log to keep track.

Back in on this again too. Just got back into the swing again after a two week holiday and want to see myself making massive improvements this time around. Will be tracking everything in the same journal this time around again.

I'm starting a new challenge from the 6th October. Been fairly lax on the training lately, mainly due to a shoulder injury and now a pulled hamstring.

Planning on getting the diet back to scratch, and going for maybe 8-10 weeks from when I start, so yea - count me back in!

Yeah good idea, I'm in. Have been doing well in terms of exercise but haven't quite nailed planning my meals right. I'm eating good things but with no structure if that makes sense

    Hi,

I would like to join please! I have failed miserably since the first challenge started and have steadily put on weight since then instead of losing it! But it has to stop! I have a fridge full of vegetables and I'm going to sit down for the afternoon and plan my meals for the week. I joined a gym last week and I hope to go at least two times a week - hopefully three times! I have 4 stone to lose. I know I won't lose all that in this 12 week challenge but I hope to make a good dent in it! I will take measurements this evening and weigh in the morning. Thanks!

Set your goals (lose fat, gain muscle, endurance related ... whatever)
Post here to say your in
Take your measurements and before photos (can be posted here if you so wish)
Use this thread for support and tracking of your changes for the duration of the challenge
    Take after photos
    Compare before and after photos
Be shocked at the difference and continue to live healthily ever after

Okay maybe not the last one, thats the gist though. Take a look at the first eight posts on the thread, G'em outlines everything in those first few posts (what measurements to take, nutrition etc.)

I'm going to give this a try too.
I might have to post for moral support, my discipline with regards to diet is seriously lacking. :(
    Good luck everyone :)

This is not going to planned for me but is still going :) Haven't done measurements yet, tonight... I will do them. They do help to motivate.

I've 3 nights of drinking ahead of me, then it's going to be a clean break for 8 weeks.

My challenge starts from Monday morning, and I'll be taking pictures this time on Sunday evening so I can see the progress.

The only real problem is I'm carrying a couple of injuries that will hamper my training. I've an on-going shoulder problem which means I can't do a whole lot of upper body stuff in the gym. No compound lifts that involve the shoulder. Real pain in the hole. The other thing is my hamstring. I pulled it playing football a couple of weeks ago and thought it had healed ok, but 30 minutes into my first game back it went, worse than the first time. So no football for me for at least 6 weeks. This will also mean laying off the Squats and Deadlifts as well for a couple of weeks to give it a chance to heal.

So, training aside, first things first will be the diet. I'm planning on cutting down my calorie intake a bit, especially if I'm not training so much, but mainly the thing will be to eat the right foods all the time.

Another reason I'm doing this is to stop the annoying habit I've picked up of smoking every time I'm drinking. I used to smoke, did so for over 10 years from when I was 14 to about 25 (with a couple of small breaks). Wasn't a huge smoker, and was off completely a couple of years before I started having the very odd 1 when I was locked. Over a period of the last year, this has very very slowly progressed to smoking when drinking. So it's time for a clean break from both.

I'll be resuming my log which has been idle for the last couple of weeks, and charting my progress in that. Looking forward to it, in the grand scheme of things the injuries shouldn't stop me too much, and come December I'm hoping to have shed the bit of padding that has developed around the mid-section, and be breathing with a cleaner set of lungs!

I completely forgot to take measurements and pictures when I started out, so I'll only be able to update on how I feel about my progress, rather than having any objective info to back it up. This week is going pretty well :)
