hi detectivFoxtrot, i really hope your two week wait flies and that you get your positive. i didnt have the lap, but i had the hsg. Our Gynae said that if my brown bleeds are not sorted by the progestrone gel then i'd have to have further investigation... but this month thank God there was no brown bleed, hope that there will be no need for a lap for either of us. i hope all will go well for you. i am going for my follicle scan friday. Does anybody else get really tired ie fatigue on the week of the injectibles... im wrecked but have to say im a bit more relaxed and positive this month. c'mon feb/march be our months:pac: xx

Hi everyone. We're in the middle of ivf and I was told acupuncture is a good idea. But late in the day, but I'd appreciate a recommendation for someone who deals with fertility acupuncture. I'm in Bishopstown. Thanks!!

Hi Briar Rose, I am not undergoing IVF nor in Cork, I am in Galway but just wanted to welcome you :) I hope someone can recommend an acupuncture in Cork for you.

Hi all, sorry to hear some of you are a bit down, I know that feeling! (((hugs)))

Today I had my 2nd consultation. I'm on my 6th Clomid cycle, and am two days past ovulation, the dreaded two week wait, gah! I've been booked in for a laparoscopy for mid April. Am a bit freaked out by that as I'll need a general anaesthetic. I asked him about a HSG and he said we could do that but it tells him much less than a lap and I may end up having to get the lap done anyway. A HSG will only confirm if the tubes are open but it won't identify any disease (e.g. endometriosis, lesions etc.). He said if he encounters problems during the surgery he will try and address them there and then, but he said if there are serious problems I'll need to be referred to a specialist.

Here's hoping that this cycle or the next has a positive outcome for me. I really don't want to get the lap done!
Anyone any experience re same? I only really know that it's keyhole surgery with small an incision in the belly button and one on each side of uterus. It's an out patient procedure but he said I'll need the rest of the week off work (surgery will be on a Tuesday)

DF, Ive my fingers crossed for ya that you get your positive and dont have to have the Lap. I havent had it done, but I think a cousin in the UK might have had that procedure - I'm afraid I cant ask her for you as I dont really know her that well - but I do know she conceived not long after it, and has a little girl now.

Me... I got my positive Ovulation Predictor Monday and Tuesday so we were busy ;) I'm getting a stronger response the last 2 months on the tests than I ever did - my LH surge is lasting for 2 days, and that has never happened. So maybe my drugs are working!

    big Hugs all around.

    Hi guys
Everyone here's hoping everything works as you need it to.
I had my check-up today after a week of extremely sore cramps, and finally got some good news. All the stuff that was stuck has come unstuck, and is floating about in there, the cramping is trying to get rid of it. Plus the best news we could see an egg developing, I'm ovulating again :-)
So nice big high dosage pain killers, tablets to make passing stuff easier. I think that last baby was just as stubborn as me, and was determined to hang around as long as he could ;-) Unfortunately it's time for the last goodbye so I can carry on and we can get a little live baby.
Fingers crossed now, in two weeks we can have a completely fresh start. I think I will ring Merrion and make appointments to carry on IUI

    Hi Dectivfoxtrot
I had a laparoscopy this time last year. I had it done as I was having abdominal pains, we weren't ttc at the time.
I have to say it was relatively painless. Tummy a bit sore bending over for a day or two and the usual side effects (constipation) after the anaesthetic. I've had a few different procedures done over the years for different reasons and this one is pretty mild by comparison to some other surgeries.
A friend had one performed due to cysts on her ovaries and she was told that it was doubtful that she would be able to have anymore children as a result of the condition of her ovaries....she was pregnant 2 months later!!! Baby boy now aged 3! Something about it stimulating the ovaries!
I know everyone is different after surgery but just wanted to let you know that it's really not too bad and definitely worth it when they find the cause of the pain/issues. Best of luck.

Spingler - thanks a mil for your kind thoughts, I hope all goes well with your follie scan

Neyite - that's great that you got a strong ovulation. It's funny, I ovulated on Valentines day, so I'm only a day or two behind you this cycle! :p It definitely sounds like the drugs are working for you. fingers crossed that this is your month! ;)

Barbiegirl - you are so strong, stronger than I could ever be. This has really dragged on for you. Seems like your angel baby really wants to hang around. I'm truly delighted to hear that an egg is maturing, here's hoping you ovulate soon, in the meantime get busy! :p

Queen of Sheebs - thanks so much for sharing your experience. I made the mistake of searching a uterine laparoscopy video on YouTube (I know, I know, step away from the laptop!:p), so I now know exactly what goes on - in extreme detail. It looked like 3 long car antenna's were being inserted into the poor victim and the 3 docs were tossing her reproductive organs around like a salad , so no more youtube for me! It's interesting that you mention your friend got pregnant after the procedure. My doc said that even if he doesn't find any issues that the procedure will actually increase chances of conception as it flushes out any obstructive (albeit harmless) microscopic debris, so that's good news. I suppose it's like getting a car service and an oil change on your uterus!

I must correct my earlier post. I am getting the HSG done as well as the lap. Both will be done at the same time, whch is great as I've heard that a HSG can be painful - I won't feel a thing as I'll be in la-la-land dreaming sbout shoes!! :D

So, I'm into the Two Week Wait at the moment and still thinking positive happy thoughts - I am not going to let another fruitless cycle make me stressed and upset if I can help it. To quote Dublinlady:
    dublinlady wrote: »
suddeny l had a revelation! Its ok! Just like that, i wasnt upset anymore! It occured to me that its only one month im not pregnant, not forever....as in - i kinda just felt calm and even a bit positive about starting a new month, and realised that the true liklihood is that i will get pregnant in the next 2-3 months and so i dont need to be worrying

So this is my game plan for the next month. It will happen, someday.

Best of luck Neyite, it will happen, when we least expect it.....so i just need to stop expecting it!!:p
Ill have everything crossed for ya, x

Well im just gonna have to jump onto that positive train with ye girls... i had my scan on fri and they told me i had only two small follicles brewing, 9 and 10, but to their surprise they could see a dull cyst which proved after a blood test and a five hour wait (for the nurse to ring) that i had already ovulated most likely on day 8, so got to it that night and next day, so im on an earlier two week wait.... see what happens cos its obviously out of my control... good luck to all xx

    Hi Ladies :)
I'm just back from a relaxing trip away which really helped with the frustration I'm feeling at the moment.. I'm just over ovulation so the dreaded 2 weeks has started :( but on the upside I feel Alot more positive this month than I've felt in months :) I know you can never really get over a m/c let alone 2 but here's hoping our third time lucky will come along real soon & be ok! Our 2 year mark of trying is July so I'm hoping we have luck before then or we'll seek medical help :( but again I'm really positive so fingers crossed :)

DFT: thanks for your advise when I joined this chat :) stuck too it this month :)

    Baby dust to all :)

Here's hoping to 9 months without another period for everyone :) positive positive hehe

Hi Ladies, I think my positive buzz is wearing off :( had a rotten day yest :( found out one of my friends is expecting, and got pregnant straight away.. I am really happy for her but at the same time it really got me down.. I feel like a terrible friend she had no idea why I rushed off.. I had a good cry with my partner and it helped a little but not a whole lot. It's all just getting to me these days & I know I shouldn't let it and try not too but it always creeps back in :(
I just need a little rant..

You poor thing, seriously anyone in Your situation would feel the same when told that news, its awful but we've all done it, your happy for them on one hand and devastated on the other! It doesnt make you a bad friend or a bad person....it makes you human! It very difficult to endure the pain of trying for months and months and having no success, especially when we see others find it so easy. Just remember that most people don't dind it that easy, alot just dont talk about their struggles. Your friend is probably in the very lucky minority!
There are always bad days amongst the good days, just let it all out and definitely have a good cry when you need to! In another day or two you'll be back to your positive self, safe in the knowledge that this WILL happen for us, the timing just has to be right :)

Tigeress I know it's hard we've all been there. My best mate got pregnant on honeymoon, first month of trying and she was upset cause she didn't really want it to happen that quickly, as she was still getting her head around it!! Now though she has a gorgeous, much loved 6 month old, who when I saw on Monday I just wanted to eat up :-) I just keep telling myself that it's my baby I want not theirs.
For me harder last week was when our other best mate opened up about an abortion she had about 8 years ago. She had not been very supportive of me, seemed to lack understanding of why I was upset in the past 6 months, and this of course explains why. To her I didn't lose a baby, cause if she thought of mine as babies then she'd have to think of the one she let go as one.
I understand that, I really do but it was very hard to listen to her and be supportive, especially when I felt that she hadn't tried to be to the same for me, and never acknowledged that hearing her story would be hard for me.
I know it's a selfish way to look at things, but on this forum we can express those thoughts that we never would to others.

Hi, long time follower but first time poster in this section of boards. My partner and I are trying to conceive and my hormones are haywire at the moment. My mother has just announced that I ''should really lose the weight I'm carrying before trying to conceive'' and ''How does ****** fancy you when you look like that.''

    I'm 10st 7lbs. I'm sitting here bawling lol.

Everywhere I look, there are pregnant women, I work with kids, 2 of my best friends are pregnant...........sorry for the moan

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,880 ✭✭✭caprilicious

You're not a terrible friend at all Tigeress, I think all of us trying to conceive have probably been there at one stage - I know I have.

Barbiegirl, I think I would have found that difficult also sympathising under the circumstances. At least its an explanation of sorts as to why your friend wasn't supportive.

I'm going to a local private clinic tomorrow have my first consultation & hopefully to get my Clomid prescription, fingers crossed it'll work I need some good news.

God love you Tigress, we've all been there..
I've had a similar experience to barbiegirl. One of my good friends has 2 kids & has also had 2 abortions. She seems to fall pregnant at the drop of a hat. She has no idea that we were trying, but every time I got a negative, it upset me when I thought of her falling so easy.
Thankfully I'm now 6 weeks pregnant after 20months trying, but it's been a long road & still early days.
Dreading telling one of my good friends as she's trying longer than me & really obsessed with it at this stage. She only told me the other day that she's going for a lap & dye in a few weeks & I felt terrible hiding the news from her, but want to keep it until I'm 12 weeks.

    Hi Ladies

just checking in with a wee bit of news, hope it's not insensitive of me for posting this here, as I know many of us are on a difficult journey. You've just all been such a great support to me over the months, I am dying to share this with ye. Today, 11 days past ovulation, I tested positive on a digital test. I am absolutely over the moon, finally it's my turn, I still can't believe it. I've dreamt so many times about getting positive tests that I believe I'm going to wake up any minute now, I really do.
There is a history of miscarriage in my family so I am praying for sticky vibes, I hope this little bean burrows deep. Due date is 5/11/11. We are telling no one (bar you guys :D ) until at least the first trimester is over.
God, that was 22 long months. but we did it! And on the last Clomid cycle too!! I am not remotely religious but I think my dad, who passed away two months ago, had a hand in this, as I know he's watching over me.

This is me, all day today - :D:D:D

Here's hoping we'll all have as good a news as Dectivefoxtrot real soon xxx

COngratulations DT!!!!!! I am absolutely delighted for you! And I mean that genuinely, you've had a really tough journey so far, you deserve every happiness!

    Thanks Barbiegirl :)

I'm not sure how I feel about todays appointment. Naively, I thought I'd go in, maybe check my blood pressure, ask me a few questions then send me skipping off with my Clomid prescription - not so!

The gynae took my bloods & wants me to have them taken again on day 23 (currently day 2) & will give Clomid only after exhausting other options first.

She charted my cycle this month, told me the exact dates we need to 'become active' :o & will work from there.

I think I just went in there with unrealistic expectations. I'm day 2 of my cycle & had read that normally Clomid is started from Day 5, so I thought I would be getting the prescription in good time to get started this month :(

On the upside, she was very positive & because I have had two pregnancies before & no invasive surgery/infection, she doesn't see any reason why ovulation should be permanently disrupted. She could see no reason why I shouldn't get pregnant soon.

I have been under a massive amount of stress & pressure since returning to work after maternity leave, also my mum in law passed away last week after a short illness.
I'm under strict doctors orders to have as stress free a month as possible (easier said than done!).

Think its time to try shelve my impatience for the time being!

The baby I lost would have been due this day next week, when I was in work today I had to help a woman today, she was heavily pregnant.
I had a bit of a wobbly moment where I thought 'that should have been me', but I do think its hurting that little bit less as time goes by.

Anyway, enough of my rambling, Hope ye all are keeping well :) &Congrats again DT, it does a gals heart good to hear brilliant news like that!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,992 ✭✭✭dublinlady

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Thats fantastic and amazing news DT!!!! So so delighted for you!! It makes me feel so happy and positive when i hear that it is happening for some of us on this forum!! It means it can happen for all of us!!:D:D I completely understand your nerves, but you really just need to be happy and enjoy the journey, dont waste time worrying about something that may never happen!! I know after my m/c whenever i get pregnant again (soon please god..!) that it will be a real challenge not to be negative and worrying, but really all that would do would create bad negative energy, what you and your baby need now is relaxation and happy thoughts!! You've crossed the biggest hurdle and i will have everything crossed for ya!! The very best of wishes!

Capri - I can only imagine how you felt walkin out of your appointment, as its so so difficult not to be impatient! We have spent so long waiting already the thought of another month is almost umbearable at the start of a cycle! But you just have to remember and focus on what they said to you which was so positive! Stress is a huge factor, which i think is cruel and ironic considering one of the biggest stresses is that we cant conceive in the first place!! But once your a few days into your cycle hopefully the optimism will come back and you'll be able to try and find ways to destress, not easy when events in your life are sometimes so difficult, so ill be hoping you have a very uneventful month :) Fingers crossed for ya, and try not to worry too much!
This all coming from me who is a complete wreck most of the time!!

Im on day 13, enjoying ovulation time and trying to plan ways to distract myself for the next two weeks!
I dont know what id do without this forum, its so great to hear all the positive stories like DT's and also to have people to listen who can really relate to the struggles im going through - noone else can really understand how emotionally draining this all is.
Thanks to you all - babydust!

Detective foxtrot that is fantastic and great encouragement for the rest of us.
Caprilicious clomid can have issues like leaving folicles swollen, i saw this on one of my many recent scans. They look like black holes the doc called it the clomid affect. I think it's always good to have the tests first.
DublinLady, Lucifer and Tigeress we'll all get there.
    Big hugs

hi all. need some advice. i had to ring our clinic the other day re a rash that developed on my face, they said that it was probably due to the treatment, thankfully its going away... i mentioned to them that my job was seriously stressing me out at the moment, the nurse said that treatment may not work if im that stressed.. she sugested me taking a break for a month from our treatment but with me being 37 next month and not seeing work getting any less stressful what should i do?????????????:confused::confused::confused::confused:... i just want to be free from stress... i literly have a pain in my shoulders and head tonight thinking about it.

Spingler, I'm kind of in the same boat. My doc doesn't want me to take treatment as they're putting my problem conceiving down to stress...which stresses me out more!

Probably a silly question, but is there anyway to reduce the stress more in your job?
If that's not possible, do you think you would be able to take a few days off, maybe get away for a break around the time of your ovulation so you would at least be relaxed then?
That's my plan anyway this month, well maybe not the going away, but trying to ensure that at least ovulation time will be stressless!

Dublinlady, Thanks its gas, obvious as it sounds I didn't realise stress could play such a big factor, or rather that it could have such an effect on my health :( I'm down to a 3 day week in work now, hopefully less time in the place = less stress & more success with the baby making :)

Barbiegirl - I agree, I went in with the wrong attitude like the pills would be a magic solution but the side effects the gynae told me about are certainly food for thought & do make me now look at clomid as a last resort as opposed to a first option.

Babydust to all, hopefully we'll see a few more positives in this thread soon :)
