My hubby had all the MMR illnesses as a child but his aunt swears he got the vaccination. She says if you get the MMR you still get the illnesses but milder. Surely this can't be true or all pregnant women or women trying to conceive would still be at risk? thinking he didn't get it.

I know in 1980 and around that time there was a ''3 in 1'' vaccine which was commonly given. This was for whooping cough, diphteria & tetanus. I got this one, maybe your hubby's Aunt is getting mixed up with that one.

Hi Stickybean, I've been trying less than a year and I'm under 35 so in theory it's too early for me to be getting the day 3 and day 21 bloods done. However I will probably get them done in the next few months alright. In October I'll be a year off the pill and that's only a few months away.

My other half is going about getting his semen analysed now and he rang a GP (in Dublin) and was told that GP doesn't do it they can only give him a referral to a specialist clinic where he will get an appointment in 2 weeks. Is this normal? I thought GPs did semen analysis. Does anyone have any advice to share?

I got all the tests you mentioned and the day 3 and 21 bloods when we went to the GP (this was after a year TTC).

We got the semen analysis done in the Rotunda, the GP can't do this as it goes to a lab, the sample has to be received within an hour of being produced. I drove the sample in, but if possible it is better if it can be produced on site. Not sure where you are based but after lots of looking around, the Rotunda was the cheapest by far. You just need a referral letter from your GP

    Hi All

I've been part of this forum for months now and although I haven't posted much, it has really helped me with my journey of TTC. It can sure be a lonely one, because although you know many other people are going through it, it feels like there is so much pressure on you, and your body to do what it is supposed to do.

Anyway, I wanted to let you know that after 8 (i think) cycles of Clomid, numerous hospital appointments, countless scans & lots of ovulation tests, I have now joined the Pregnant forum.

I wish all of you ladies the very best of luck. It will happen, it just takes a lot of patience and hundreds of ovulation sticks!!

Congratulations nordieindublin. It's surreal when it finally happens as you've spent so long dreaming of this day. Enjoy the next 9 months :)

A little moan from the weekend.
I was visiting my inlaws on Saturday and my sister in law was there with her two daughter (2 years old and 8 weeks) and it was both lovely (the 2 year old has a particular fondness for me, apparently we are "best friends" and she was on my knee the whole time) and really really hard.
I'm delighted for my sister in law that she has her 2 daughters as it was a tough road for her to get to where she is right now and thought she'd never have children. The fact that she does have 2 gorgeous girls should be of comfort I know but she is a few years younger than me. An aunt of hers was there too and her daughter is expecting her second baby again after many years of struggling. So again should be of comfort in the rational part of my brain...........that said there is a little bit of me that wants to throw the biggest tantrum ever and ask why not me/us.

Anyhow that won't do me much good. Have my acupuncture appointment tomorrow so here's hoping that things will happen soon.

So had my acupuncture appointment yesterday and felt great after it. Granted there is nothing new there I've always found it really relaxing:o

It feels really good to have taken charge of this in a positive way. Fingers crossed that things will change in a few cycles!!

Hope the rest of you are doing well. :)

Glad you're feeling a bit better Penny. I've felt reasonably ok about not being pregnant yet for the last few months but it's just hit me for six in the past week - it's really getting to me again :( Think it's because a good friend of mine is due her baby in the next few weeks... I'm so excited for her, but still :(

Its funny how you can be going along and doing ok on the pregnancy front and then all of a sudden it just hits you hard isn't it?
The funny thing for me is that its not little tiny babies that does it its more when I'm around the 18 month plus where they're toddling about and chatting away and lots of interactive fun.

Anyhow felt great after the acupuncture, was good to feel that I'd taken positive steps towards starting (hopefully) a family. Especially as I'm meeting a friend tomorrow for lunch and she is due her baby in October! She used acupuncture too so fingers crossed!
    Hope you're doing ok Angeldelight.

I'm going to see my friend tonight, who just found out that her IVF cycle failed. I honestly I have no idea what to say to her to make her feel better, as I know she will be utterly devastated?

Sometimes there is little or nothing to actually say. A hug, big pot of tea and nice dunkable biscuits and a listening ear is often the best.

    :)

Had this myself a few weeks ago.
My friend's first IVF cycle at the begining of the year was successful however tragically her daughter was found to have no heartbeat at 25 weeks, she did a second cycle in July but it wasn't successful.

All you can do really is listen & be there as they cry, vent whatever. So hard cos you feel so helpless.

We finally figured out what seemed to be the issue and have treated that and are on our 3rd month officially trying again. Will be 41 this year... to be 31 again!!

Hi, doing ok. Ovulating this week ( I think and hope) so we'll see. Still in good form after my acupuncture last week and going again on Friday.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,175 ✭✭✭angeldelight

Ah stickybean that's horrible - I'd say they felt awful as well. Fingers crossed for a productive few days Penny lol.
I'm slap in the middle of the two week wait - due Saturday or Sunday. I know we did the feed on the right days this month so fingers crossed. Have a horrible cold so not really feeling great, hopefully it's on it's way now - this is day 4 :(

I went to the dr. today to get the results of my July lap dye d&c and ovarian drilling surgery. Turns out my left ovary was stuck to my bowel and covered in adhesions. There were minor insignificant adhesions on the right ovary so he cleaned them all up (he showed me photographs of both and there was such a noticable difference in the left and right). He also found that both my tubes are blocked. Seemingly the dye wouldn't even begin to go through so he's sending me for a HSG and the guy who does it apparently is a master at unblocking the tubes with a catheter so he said we'd be seen sooner than later coz i'm a serious case. So that's where i'm at this week lol. He even said to just use protection or abstain until we have the next procedure done.

That's great news stargirl.gra,at least your gettin answer's and can fix the problem's!!i sometimes wish they could find problem with us,unexplained is a very frustrating word!!
Stickybean i wish people knew sometimes the minefield of emotions we go through at a throwaway comment like that,if only they knew the daily battle it is sometimes!

Totally! Sure I said to my husband if I go in there today and he says I'm clean as a whistle inside I'm going to scream the place down but I feel today I was vindicated! But speaking of throw away comments people say, I have a few....my dad died three months ago and the day of his wake someone said oh you'll get pregnant now- they were either insinuating i'd relax or that from his cloud in heaven he'd magic me a baby, either way I was offended lol.

My sister made a really good point to me today. She struggled for 7years to have her kids and said don't you sometimes hate all the it happened for us stories. Like people think they are making you feel better by saying I had this problem and that and look now we have a baby. Why can't some people say you know what we tried for a baby, it didnt happen but we did x,y,z with our lives you know she just thinks sometimes it's good for the mental health to have a plan B. i definately think there's something in that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,495 ✭✭✭bobskii

You would wonder about some people, are they just insensitive dummy's or are they out ta get at ya!!Ive had more than my fair share of comments in the last years, the most hurtful ones coming from 'friends' would you believe!!

Ah i'm with your sister on that one,the amount of times ive heard 'well such and such just relaxed and hey presto a baby arrived' it's all stress related!!Stress my ass,i get more stress listening to conversation's like that than i do about this whole thing i'm going through!

  • Administrators, Politics Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,947 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Neyite

Yeah, Clomid /Ovitrelle /Pregnyl are routinely prescribed for "stress" all right.

We had a plan B. We knew that we would still be a family if we never had a child, just a family of two instead.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,495 ✭✭✭bobskii

Yep same as that, our plan B is if we don't have another child we are goin to go and Travel, even if we do manage to have one we will travel anyway,it will just have to be in summer holiday time :P

Due my period either Saturday or Sunday and totally winding myself up, I hate this part! Have a weird taste in my mouth which is probably because I'm only getting over a cold and felt really nauseous earlier, gagged at the smell of an new air freshener I bought, probably because I was up hours and hadn't eaten anything. But no of course in my head I'm definitely pregnant :s

Hi Angeldight. I am in the exact same boat. Due Saturday or Sunday and have the usual AF pains but up until today I was convincing myself I had pregnancy symptoms. It's so hard and I know I will be heartbroken again when AF arrives this weekend! I hope we both get BFP's though!!

ashl fingers crossed for you - I of course couldn't wait and did a clear blue digital tonight - not pregnant! And hubby isn't home tonight or Friday so won't see him til I finish work on Sat - feeling rubbish :(

Aww Angeldelight I'm so sorry you got a negative. I actually bought 2 tests this evening on the way home from work but chickened out of testing at the last minute!! I had to take a HCG injection this month and that can stay in my system until next Tuesday so I was afraid of getting a false positive! I know AF is on the way though and told Hubbie last night but they don't really feel the same sadness we do every month. I guess we just have to have a really good cry, pick ourselves up and try again for another new month. It's exhausting mentally and physically but we have to believe we will get there in the end! Take care of yourself this weekend. If AF shows up Saturday I plan to ditch the endo diet for a night and enjoy a few glasses of Vino so I hope you do something nice for yourself too! X
