It's better for poker to pay out 10% tbh and keep the casual players happy.

I WILL cry if I finish 45 - 10. I would rather get knocked out on the first hand than that.

Yeah I do agree with you but for the poker economy as a whole it's better this way. I feel your typical joesoap wouldn't come back or get discouraged from big MTT's if they paid out top 5% or for example made it to day two after playing 18hrs for nothing.

2/5 on Lloyd crying at the IPO.

    Just arrived in Dublin.
Make with the draw, I need to learn of my tablemates names to freak them out.
I can say I did my homework on the entrants play then.

At my hotel now , pints ashtray & laptop at the ready , gonna have myself many beverages and indulge in some online poker as if i was at home :o , looking forward to tomorrow , i think 10% of the field should be paid as well , for all the higher stakes players the rewards for finishing in the lower tier of the payout will not be to appealing to them but for your average joe soap even making the money albeit for minimum profit will have quite an enjoyable feel good factor , best of luck to all playing tomorro :)

Really. I could go play the SE monthly. :p

I choose to take it as a compliment that I am odds on to finish in the top 5% of the field. :)

Promise? this will be like Trevors blowup with KK!
But, and I argued this till I was blue in the face earlier in the year, the payout structure should be as Nicnicnic lays out. Ah well.
I couldnt agree less to be honest. The whole purpose of this tournament is to bring players TO poker, and to help your average Joe soap play a tournament he wouldnt normally have a chance to. As much as you may disagree giving the likes of your self a little more enticement isnt whats going to give poker the best results long term, it is getting and keeping more and more "start-up" players in the game.
Say for example there are 75 players like yourself who wanted to eanr the maximum or go bust, 10 of which would make a lot of money if ten of you were at the final table. If in stead the 100 Joe soaps cashed and then fell in love with the game flooded the casinos and the poker market then arguably you would make more money from them long term from keepin the games fluid. By paying only 40 id be VERY pissed off finished 41st after beating over 1000 players,, but that wouldnt even compare to how annoyed Joe soap would be in the same situation.
would you play the WSOP if they only paid top 2%? i honestly dont think you would, you would take your $T or W$ somewhere else. Its just not good business sense to be honest.
The best thing for poker and for Stephen Et Al is to pay top 10%, and im sure he is more interested in the 800 live Joe Soaps than the 100-200 Online "pros" who rarrey if ever grace the live scene.

Well, I'm not an online pro. But, if they changed all Irish tournaments to a 5% payout as standard - I'd be ALL for it.

you dont think it would wildly increase variance? would you play a winner takes all one, to use an exaggerated example?
The reason i use the wsop is the prestige and furore around it, and the sense of pride you and any other player would get from cashing. the more often you get the feeling the more you want to play. happy players=frequent player.

some pics of the setup taken between 9pm and 11pm.

Thera are about 30 tables left to go in. It reminded me of the WSOP as soon as I walked in. The pics don't really capture the size of it...

Are the dealers gonna have to sit on those blue seats??

It would be ludicrous for Stephen to even consider paying less than 10% of the field. Its a big advantage for the above average players aswel IMO. Players will be hanging on around the bubble hoping to get ITM, whereas players that dont care for scraping into the money can be more aggressive and pick up more pots PF giving themselves a better chance at going deep.

You even see this online when 80th place in a tounrie is $11 and you paid $11 to enter. the amount of players that slow down and fold everything is crazy.
