    Hi Again RC,

Much Easier fix, on your phone, do the following:

    1: Launch Installer.app
2: Hit "Sources" in the bottom right
3: Hit "Edit" in the top right
4: Hit "Add" in the top left
    5: Add "i.unlock.no"
6: Hit "Install" down the bottom
7: Go to the "Unlocking Tools" Category
    8: Install "Edge Settings Fix"
    9: Restart the iPhone

Ok thanks. I did all that and put in the "isp.vodafone.ie" as the APN,
"vodafone" as the username and "vodafone" as the password
but it won't work at all, do i have to do something with VPN settings?

I tried "live.vodafone.com" with "dublin" as the username and password but that wont work either. However, the data counter says i've sent and received 2.0KB???
It's charging me for not even using it.

The latest, which is 1.1.1 although there are rumours that apple will be reeleasing a firmware 1.1.2 pretty soon for the european launch (to enable international settings and fix the number format and edge settings bug).

Vodafone's website says live.vodafone.com is the apn instead of .ie and i tried that but it doesn't work either. The only settings that get closest to working is live.vodafone.com as it seems to almost work and then i get a "server error" and the data counter says i've received 7.0KB and received 3.0KB even though the page never loads.

Does anyone have any ideas what othe setting i could try? I might just ring up vodafone.

International support is already in 1.1.1 it just needs to be activated, you can language, keyboard layout and region (Ireland is listed)

live.vodafone.com is for the Live portal
isp.vodafone.ie or hs.vodafone.ie is their internet APN, perhaps you dont have GPRS enabled for your SIM ?

My last phone was 3g, could this be the reason why it's not working?

I activated the international number format via "unlockthatiphon"'s method using installer.app

Anyone know how to fix the +353 issue and 085 with texts and calls, could fix it with ibrickr but cant use that now with 1.1.1, Thanks Steve aka unlockthatiphone fixed my phone for me today and updated 1.1.1 legend.

The post "unlockthatiphon" made earlier today details a method to fix the edge issue. In that app you install there is also an option to enable the international menu which has an option for international number format- you tick the ireland format and it has worked for me. Before I had to put in the +353 version and the normal number to get calls to show up the name but texts still showed they were from a number rather than the contacts name, this has fixed that.

About not getting vodafone data to work I rang vodafone but they had no advice to give. I asked about making sure my account was set up for gprs(my last phone was 3g so maybe i wasn't activated for gprs data) but she said there is no such thing as even 3g phones use gprs when not in 3g coverage. I asked about the correct data settings but she gave the same ones given on here before. Is there anyone here with a prepaid account that has gotten vodafone data to work? If so can you please post the settings u are using.

The closest i can get to work is live.vodafone.com becasue it seems to try to load the page and i then get the error; "lost network connection NSURLErrorDomain:-1005 ", i've searched the net for this error but it only happens to people who can't get wifi to work, not gprs. Also, the data counter shows bytes have been sent and received everytime i use this apn (it now stands at 70KB received) but interestingly i'm not getting charged for it
    .
Every other apn and username/password combination i use return the same "you are not subscribed to edge" message and the data counter shows no change either.

That's odd, every text that comes in now has the senders name with it, not their number. I turned off and on my phone to get it to kick in though. Also, make sure you have the +353 prefix stored in the contact's details

Yera its fixed now anyway, Thanks though.

    Hi RC,

The settings you are using are correct,

    APN: isp.vodafone.ie
    Username: vodafone
    Password: vodafone

I have tested these on Post-Pay and Pre-Pay Vodafone sims and they work fine. The only thing i can suggest is to do a full restore to 1.1.1 on your phone and jailbreak and activate using http://jailbreakme.com. The iPhone will stay unlock so your ok there and i have tested this method with a Vodafone pre-pay sim and it works fine.

I think you used iNdependence to JailBreak and Activate your iPhone, am i wrong?? The reason i say this is i have heard of another case on hackint0sh with the same situation as your accept he was on a post-pay network in Malaysia.

Give it a go and see how you get on.

I have those settings too and it works fine, can't get it to work work with live.vodafone.com, and according to their web site you have to use the live APN in order to use their 9.99 a month €500 mb tarrif

yes i used independence but the method i used on hack the iphone.com also downgraded my baseband to the 1.02 one I think. That's why I'm a little apprehensive to restore it like you said as I don't know how it will be affected. Does anyone know? Will I have to go through the whole bypass activation process again?

I put a friends prepaid o2 sim into my iphone and put in the correct "internet" apn and edge worked perfectly, in fact i was pretty happy with the speed considering it's not 3g- o2 must have a proper edge network? It cost quite a lot though, irish operators suck for data charges. Does anyone know if o2 will be coming out with good data bundles soon? If they do i will definitely buy a sim from them and be done with sh*te vodafone for good.

So does this mean my vodafone sim is just broken or o2 are just better than vodafone?

i am having trouble getting edge/grps working on an iphone.

i even went as far to speak with o2 data support who gave me settings as

    apn: internet
    u/p: gprs

does anyone currently have this working?

Actually, i've just realised your username and password are wrong, just leave those fields blank- the apn ("internet") is right though.
I just tried the above settings using my friends o2's sim and it worked perfectly.

Also try open.internet - this is a less restrictive method and there's a chance it may work if internet doesn't.

Apple will be realesing the iPhone in Europe with firmware 1.1.2. Link

And it looks like this frimware again will need to be rehacked using new methods.

don't know if this is common knowledge here or in fact even true but...

i asked the rep in carphone warehouse (04nov) about the iphone release in ireland and he claimed that because there isnt really the market here that it wont be release before April next year as Apple are concentrating their efforts with the UK and other european markets.

i'm in the states next week and seriously considering getting one (or more) for €280.

dunno if anyone has any advice (pro's / con's)

gfog, does your SIM card have a pin lock currently enabled on it? I had some problems with my SIM pin lock when I first got the phone so it might be related. Try disabling it (with another phone obviously).

As for the upgrade, it went great but not without some problems. I got to the point where you're waiting for the callback/reboot for AppSnapp to happen and it just sat at the keypad screen for like ten minutes. I then changed the url for the jailbreak from jailbreak.unlockthatiphone.com to the main jailbreakme.com site instead (which is what they seem to be mirroring to anyway) and that worked immediatelly (call/reboot almost instantly).

After that 1.1.1 is definitely up and running (iTunes! and TV out, woo hoo!) but oddly enough, I didn't have to unlock the phone again at all. After the jailbreak, it just picked up my Vodafone SIM and was good to go :D. Kudos to unlockthatiphone for getting us our phones in the first place and posting the instructions to get to 1.1.1. 1.1.2 looks almost pointless to me anyway...

    Bear in mind that apple don't let you buy iphones with cash anymore, you must use a credit card (tho i havn't heard any reports of european credit cards being refused) and you cannot buy more than two at a time;

YEAH, 2 freinds of mine were in Seattle last week. the Apple rep gave them a hard time pointing at a giant poster warning about exporting iphones.

they basically told the rep did they want the business or not and came away with an iphone each !

    they paid in cash also.
