    Hi Guys
Looking to get an Iphone next week from New York. Same as above really. Is it worth getting if the unit comes with 1.1.2? Or shall it be 1.1.1?

On the "unlockthatiphone.com" method i assume it works in 1.1.1 mode?

Also can 1.1.2 be downgraded to 1.1.1 so i can unlock it?

    Cheers
    Darren

    Hey,

    The same thing happened me.

Put the sim into another phone. Go into settings and disable pin request and off you go...

its very unlikely iphones bought from shops next week will already have the new firmware on them, it takes a few weeks to arrive from the factory anyway. I'd recomend you use the unlocking guide on www.hacktheiphone.com
as it is free and extremely easy to do- no pc required at all!

cheers for that. another question i just thought of.
When you unlock the iphone can you still use Itunes to sync music etc to the unit?
Also can you sync with Imac for Musci and PC for Calendar as i have an imac at home but have a PC laptop for work?

Keep a eye on http://www.hackint0sh.org/ with regards the 1.1.2 forum people will keep post if they find one with a 1.1.2 firmware on it so never say never, while its unlikely very possilbe though. No one knows yet weather you can downgrade 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 wont know till friday/sat at the moment it cant be jailbroken but that wont last for long. there should prob be some more news with regards 1.1.2 by next week anyway so just keep an eye out before buying.

That happened to me i had to do it 3 times before it actually worked.unlockthatiphone will help if your still having problems but try again anyway.

So I presume the best thing to do now is to wait for the uk release and grab one from the north at around €380 and wait till 1.1.2 is hacked..

    Hi Guys,

I updated the magic.tiff file so that you should get a response first time and not have to do it 3 or 4. We also updated it to tell people who have a pin code to remove it before the process, they seem to be the only two problems people are recieving.

As for buying one up the north, you will have to sign a 2 year contract with 02 up there to get one, i have heard that, and am completly unsure as to how true this is, that the Apple Store in London will be doing the same as the ones in the US, you will have to provide proof of UK address and use only a UK Credit or Debit Card to get them. I also read somewhere that the phone will sell for 299pound instead of 279pound in the apple store for some reason, i will try and post the article here.

@RC, our guide is also free man :)

Going back to the release date in Ireland, we have a very very good source that the iPhone will be released on 9th of February next year in Ireland, when i say good source i mean this guy sits at the same table as Steve Jobs every quarter!!

Lastly, as for 1.1.2 being downgraded to 1.1.1, this may be possible as 1.1.2 is exactly the same as 1.1.1 accept for 2 things, it has support for Internation Users (Which can be added to a 1.1.1 iPhone anyway) and it fixes the Tiff Bug. It is unsure as of yet if it is even going to be called 1.1.2, it may be 1.1.1 Internationl version.

 Why would you be advising of an official launch? surely you rather the hits on your site for unblockers? Nothing confimred in ireland yet a date like the 9th Feb is made up.

Steve does'nt sit ive heard he levitates (yawn) and i have that from a source that empties the bins in the Cali. offices.....

PS anyone see how the O2 Uk launch is on Friday at 6.02pm clever eh?

Does anyone know if the iPhone from the UK will work with an Irish O2 simcard?
I know i will have to activate it but after that it should work without being unlocked, right?

It won't. It needs to be a UK O2 SIM.

Ah ok, i thought i read in the US that the AT&T roaming partners didn't have to unlock their iPhones, only activate them.
Or carriers with the same "Network Code" or something....

An O2 IRL sim will work in a normal O2 UK "Locked" phone.

Ok well speaking from experience, my last 3 phones were all bought from the north and were locked to O2. Maybe all of them dont but certainly all the ones i've ever bought have.

so is it safe enough to upgrade to 1.1.1 using the unlockthatiphone method without bricking phone, can you use the latest itunes 7.5 with hacked iphones?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 344 ✭✭dmn

    hey
anybody getting a really annoying text like every 5 mins of the day from "mms - nt" since upgrading to version 1.1.1??

    how do i stop it?

I have GPRS / EDGE working fine on iPhone with O2.

    APN is wap.dol.ie
Usernamd and password are left blank.

Gits. I'm sick of waiting - don't want to upgrade my contract with Meteor in case it goes to O2 - don't want to move to O2 in case it goes to someone else. I think I'll just buy a Touch.

Actually, i've just realised your username and password are wrong

some older / legacy devices may need something entered into the fields to get a connection going hence people sticking in 'gprs' since the launch... more modern devices can handle it being blank, but entering in something there shouldn't matter (at least hasn't to date for me)

if you enter a user/pass into the iphone config on O2 does it stop the connection working, would be interested to know if it causes an issue (i'd note it in the Connection Sticky) - thanks

Vodafone sent me a text hoping that i was "enjoying my new phone" and that I should ring customer care, i suppose this is normal for everyone who buys a new phone (regardless if it's a non-vodafone unlocked one or not) but how exactly do they detect that you have new one?

No, I have normal reception. Maybe try taking out the sim and putting it back in or if that doesn't help it then borrow someone elses to see if it's a problem with the phone itself or not.

    Hey all,

Has anyone used the International Caller ID fix from modmyiphone.com?

There a a few different files:
the -7, -8 and -9 indicates the number of digits used for matching. I remember someone mentioned in another thread that Nokia phones use the last 6 digits of a phone number for matching. By default, iPhone uses the last 7 digits, but only if either the incoming caller ID or the stored number is exactly 7 digits. This may work for US phone numbers (for example local caller ID 555-6789 will match against +1-234-555-6789 stored in address book), but may not for the rest of the world. Mobile phone numbers in Australia, for example, are in the form of 0412-345-678 when displayed as a local number, but +61-412-345-678 when country code is added (the leading 0 is dropped). To make things worse, voice calls come with local caller ID while SMS's come with international caller ID, so you're in trouble even when you're not roaming. This patch forces iPhone to use the last 7 or 8 digits for matching even if caller ID or stored number is longer than 7 digits.

Does anyone know which file I should use...7,8 or 9 numbers?

Also, does iBrickr work with 1.1.1? If not, whats the best way to copy files to the iPhone?

Just caught the iPhone UK ad on TV - interesting to note the name showing on the phone was Kieran Buckley - very Irish name for a UK ad I thought!

Apple have not said yet. But why wait for the iphone to come to Ireland when you can import it.
